Somewhat Of A Fic Rec To Start The Year, But This Is More Of A Selected Few That I Went Through, So Here

Somewhat of a Fic Rec to start the year, but this is more of a selected few that I went through, so here are some Baggenshield fics after I dug myself into the fandom:

The other day, I read a fic called Living Stone by notherntrash where Erebor’s haunted and I got deeply invested in this. Everybody lives/nobody dies, Erebor slowly builds from the ground up, AND funky things are happening in that mountain? And it was all after Smaug was killed off? More likely than you think.

ALSO, I adore Mazarbul by StairwellWit where Bilbo goes through an incarnation because Durin the Deathless decided to meddle with things. Oh, he’s also his spiritual guide (hah) and so, Bilbo’s the only one who can see this super old dwarf following him around as he gets ready for ANOTHER journey (that hasn’t happened) with his dwarven friends.

There’s also Say the Magic Words from birdkeeperklink where Bilbo has magic, and he solves some canon solutions with this ability. I laughed at some bits, and it was a little endearing to see him try to hide his special ability from the Company.

One Remedy for Gold Sickness (or maybe two) by randi2204 was hilarious, for reasons that include Bilbo chucking a whole Arkenstone at Thorin’s head so that he’s not drowning in dragon sickness anymore.

A Shire Scorned by Nyrah and saint2sinners was a delight. Just adding in to say that it’s mpreg since it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I especially love the scenes when the hobbits get overly protective of Bilbo when they found out he’s knocked up. The King under the Mountain did this to you, you say? He abandoned you, is it? (Even if he was under dragon sickness and didn’t realise this, really) Well, then, we’re cutting off any business with the dwarves for that. No siree, we will not be dealing with those lot anytime soon, Mister Baggins, and for your sake, you should rest. Come now, have some scones.

Reflections in a Mirror series by Tamloid is a favourite of mine, too. It’s mostly about Thorin and Bilbo spending time in the afterlife together, after Thorin watches Bilbo live his life after the Battle of the Five Armies through a mirror. There are reunions and happy tears, so it’s a sweet series honestly.

There is nothing more devastating, then finding out that a completed fic you were in the process of reading, that the last ‘chapter’ of that fic explains that it was discontinued over 5 years ago. And none of the tags included any reiteration of discontinuation. The story was so beautifully written, and no hate to the author. I’m just in awe of how it ended.

It’s too early in the morning for this, but I just finished reading a fanfic that has changed my way of thinking. I’m still kinda in shock. The fic itself is 10 years old. I don’t know if I will recover honestly. A little gory with awesome plot, but a super unexpected plot twist on the last chapter. AND a very very gay relationship between two cops.

The story is called Elusive by kuriadalmatia on Ao3

I highly recommend it.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again but it is absolutely an example of civilizational inadequacy that only deaf people know ASL

“oh we shouldn’t teach children this language, it will only come in handy if they [checks notes] ever have to talk in a situation where it’s noisy or they need to be quiet”

if you think that you are entitled to know a celebrity’s sexuality, block me. if you think you are entitled to know anyone’s sexuality, block me. if you constantly throw around the word queerbait when you don’t even know what that word is, block me. if you think real people with real lives and real feelings are capable of queerbaiting, block me. if you think that you are owed something just because you are a fan of a certain piece of media or actor in the spotlight, block me. and also fuck you
