"Wake up...." She was a stupid girl, who kept having the same seven stupid dreams, of escaping the monster who was Ramsey Bolton. Dreams of jumping off the battlements with Theon, finding Jon, fighting for their home and Westeros, against the whitewalkers, the Dragon Queen, all before she died. She thought they were dreams, until Ramsey told her Jon had become Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. Were her dreams a version of the future? Could she change it? All Sansa had to do, was take Theon's hand and jump....

I find there are 2 parts to writing smut. The motions and the emotions. If it is between 2 people who have no feelings for one another, it is then I don't need to think to hard about it. It becomes like choreographing a dance.

When emotions become involved, I need to get into a right frame of mind. I really have to imagine the scene. The smells, the lighting, the temperature. Even if I don't mention it in the narrative, I need to envision it.

When I first started writing, I was nervous about writing smut. Then I found I was half decent at it, so I enjoyed writing it. But now I try to minimise it. I added unnecessary smut scenes, but now they are only when required for the plot.

If I've got one planned for the narrative, for in a few chapters, and I'm in the right frame of mind to write the scene, despite not arriving at that point in the story. I will write it long before it is due to be released. Although when I do that, I tend to make significant changes, or I end up binning it.

In part 1 of Daggers to the Heart, the smut scene is nothing like the original idea that I had for it. Fortunately, I have kept it and I think it might be suitable to be adapted for part 2 (I have only just thought that while writing this post). 😀

These days I prefer writing a good battle, swordfight or violent death.

Not a soul has to answer this but I'm curious - do you love or hate writing spicy scenes?

(I would tag some of y'all but don't want to put anyone on the spot.)

I'm getting ready to write one of these scenes and I really have to be in the right frame of mind to do it anymore whereas when I first started writing fic, I jumped into smut scenarios quicker than the plumber would show up in a porn film. I would never make it as a straight-up erotica author but I could never write clean romance either. Just curious if any fic writers feel strongly one way or another about this.
