obsessed with mass market paperbacks. their pleasing rectangular proportions. how they fit badly in a hoodie pocket so you can drag them around everywhere with you like a temporary little buddy. the way they fit in your hand because they're MADE for human hands and not as bookshelf decoration. the way the pages feel when you riffle them gently with your thumb. How pristine and crisp they look when you get them and how creased and folded they look when you're done, even if you try to be nice to them. how that wear is okay, how that's correct actually, because they're made with the philosophy that books aren't meant to be PRETTY, they're meant to be read. that little ripple new ones get on the left side from where you hold them when you're reading, the way the ripple only goes as far as you've read, because u change stories by reading as they are changing you. how you can find thousands of these creased and folded and loved little dudes in every thrift store and used book shop and neighborhood library and you can instantly see the ones that someone carried around in a backpack for weeks or read to pieces or gave up on halfway through because they wear being read like fresh snow wears footprints. I love these poorly made, subpar little rectangles so much. truly the people's books.

i think that trans lesbians generally dont enter the queer community until they start transition; if you think youre a Straight Man, the undefined malaise of queerness that follows you as an egg is often (not always!) not enough to go "oh im ace" or "oh im nonbinary" and join your high school gsa. Instead you drift around Male Nerd groups until youre exposed to the idea that trans women are Normal People You Can Be and not disgusting sex objects

this explains a few things;

why trans lesbians have some distance from the queer community and dont have as much connection with cis queers as say, many transmascs or many straight transfems- she probably never spent time in drag communities because theyre mostly a space for people who like men.

and also why trans women are so protective of the idea of "egg cracking"; a "straight boy" who quietly wishes "he" was a woman isnt going to seek out tme-dominated queer spaces and start exploring labels, (which i understand is often the case for people who settle on a gay transmasc identity) "he" might need another trans woman to extend her hand.

i love love love physical music but i wish i had a better way to display/store/play cds...

vinyls are big and cool and i wanna hang them on my wall and stare at them because they're beautiful and picking one out and sitting down to listen to it is really fun

but i've always been drawn to cds because they're so much more usable, the ceremony (~effort~) of pulling out vinyl and having to stop to flip or swap the disc always takes me out of the experience, and their size makes them feel less... personal? to me? like an amazing lp is an art piece you have to baby, an amazing cd is a friend you can bring with you in your pocket

my car is packed full of cds and i cycle through a lot of them whenever i go anywhere and it feels like the perfect balance between having something real to hold in my hands versus tapping a screen to play something from my phone and this is like the perfect experience to me

which is so annoying when i get home and there's just stacks of them everywhere and i don't have a desktop with a disc drive and i just have headphones and not a proper stereo system and ughhhh ;_;
