Skimming through the early chapters of the ArSen novels and found some interesting stuff:

Including the king’s personal guard, the five thousand Athanatoi “Immortals”, the cavalry totaled 85,000 in all.

Huh! That never came up in the manga, the kingsguard part. I have yet to look into it (this is just me rambling) but Athanatoi doesn't sound very... Persian? I may be wrong, though.
