Thinking about the day Shadowhand Essek of Den Thelyss went to the Lucid Bastion for one of his most boring job obligations - listening to the common folk make petitions to the Bright Queen - and saw a dirty, gangly human lift up the symbol of his undoing.

He didn't realize then that his undoing would be good: a transmutation into a better self. He didn't realize then that this ragtag bunch of annoying adventurers would become his family. He didn't realize then that he'd just met the man he would one day love and cherish for the rest of his life.
