“dang it i thought i’d beat you!”

“jeno! are you okay??” you stand up when you see your best friend walk through the cafe door.

“yeah i’m good, you?” he eye smiled.

“i thought you said it was an emergency.”

“ohh.. yeah… that’s, that’s been resolved..” jeno rubs the nape of his neck.

“oh. okay then… what brings you here then?”

“uhhh no reason. im gonna go get coffee.”

jeno was acting weird but you just rub it off.

“here.” jeno says, holding out a coffee for you, as well as one for him in his other hand.

“thanks… but i already have some.” you looked down at the cup on the table.

“oh.” jeno swallows and sits down in the chair across from you.

you laugh, “jeno why are you being so awkward?”

“me? no im not being awkward, what do you mean, you’re the one being awkward.”

“uh-huh…” you slowly nod your head, agreeing suspiciously. “what did you do this time”

“i didn’t do anything!!”

“well then what was that emergency or whatever…” you sipped your drink. “don’t even bother hiding anything from me, i can see right through you, lee jeno.” you smiled at him.

“fine. actually i came to talk to you.” jeno looked down at his fidgeting hands.

“about what?” you rested your arms on the table, tapping a rhythm with your fingers.

“umm yn..”

“yn, i know we’ve known each other forever and we’re practically like siblings…”

your heart sunk. has he only ever saw you as a sibling and nothing more?

“but it’s just that..” jeno continued. “i like you. like not as a sibling, like.. well you know what i mean. there. i said it. please don’t hate me.”

but you made no reaction. you actually didn’t hear anything jeno just said because you were still stuck on the fact that he said you guys were like siblings.

jeno face palms himself. “i knew i shouldn’t have said anything..” he mumbled into his hands.

“is that really what you think?” you ask in a small voice.

“yes..” jeno says quietly to match your tone.

there was a misunderstanding. the question you asked jeno was regarding whether or not he saw you as a sibling, however jeno answered unknowing that you were referring to something else.

“well okay then.” you swallow. “it’s getting dark outside, i should go.” you said getting up from your seat.

“wait yn… do you… have a response?”

“why do you expect me to say anything?” you scoff and run out the door.

jeno stood there in confusion for a brief moment before following behind you. he caught up with you and stood in front of you with his hands on your shoulders to stop you from running.

“yn what’s wrong?”

you look up to face him.

“what do you mean what’s wrong?? my crush of so many years just told me he just sees our relationship as siblings!” tears were rolling down your cheeks.

jeno stared at you blankly, but couldn’t keep his smile in.

“yn, what did you think i said in there?” he laughed and dropped his head onto your shoulder, where his hands still rested.

now you were confused. “well,” you sniffed “well you said that we’re practically siblings.”

“is that all you heard??” he raises his eyebrows.

“i guess..”

“there was a but”

“there was?”

jeno nods his head.

“so…but what?”

“i like you. yn, i confessed to you. i like you a lot. not..as a sibling.”

“ohh.” you were still trying to look sad but you couldn’t hold your laugh in. soon the two of you were in hysterics.

“i cant believe you lied about having an emergency just to tell me you liked me.” you shoved jeno playfully.

“no i really did have an emergency.”

“oh.” you felt humbled.

“i mean i was in an emergency to see you...”

you cover your face to hide your embarrassment.

jeno puts his arm around your neck and rubs his knuckles on your head, as the two of you start walking side by side.

“i’ll walk you home.” he then quickly kissed your cheek.

caught off guard, you turn your head to look at the boy next to you, met with his face close to yours.

you shared a brief intimate moment with each other, until you broke the silence.

“i’ll race you there!”

“im so tired.” you yawned, gathering your hair behind you to tie it up loosely.

“wait let me try.” your boyfriend!jaemin took the tie from you, placing it around his wrist. he bunched your hair into place, then proceeded to take the tie from his wrist, and twist it around the bunch of hair he held in his hand.

you sat in a chair up to your vanity, jaemin standing behind you. you were faced with the reflection of you and your boyfriend in the mirror.

“done” jaemin stepped back a little, admiring his work. it really didn’t look nice, and it didn’t feel nice either. “wow jaem. good job.” you congratulate him while you cringe, touching the tangled mess with your fingers.

the two of you continued staring at your reflections. jaemin leaned down to hug you from behind, with you still sitting in your chair. you couldn’t help but notice how sweet jaemin looked hugging you, enjoying being able to see him from this perspective in the mirror. jaemin’s head now rested on your shoulder, both of your gazes still focused towards the reflection.

“mirror mirror on the wall, who’s the cutest of them all!?!” jaemin said, playfully swaying side to side to the rhythm of the rhyme.

“y/n!!!!” he shouted in response to his own question, pinching your cheeks.

“pshh.” you shoved him away only before standing to jump onto him, causing him to fall onto your bed right behind him.

you found yourself sprawled out, laying horizontally over jaemin’s chest, causing him to question your odd choice of a position.

“why are you laying like this?” jaemin giggled.

“it’s comfy.” you said casually in response.

you looked over to jaemin’s hand, resting beside him, just in your reach. you grabbed his limp arm and began slapping him in the face with his own hand.

“why’re you hitting yourself? why’re you hitting yourself?” you said repeatedly. jaemin flinched continuously until he pulled you onto to himself to hold you back, keeping your arms down with his over yours. you were held tight in his embrace, and you couldn’t help but giggle at jaemin pretending to be annoyed.

locked into jaemin’s arms, you rested your head in the crook of his neck, relaxed enough to drift off to sleep, until he picked up your arm…

as much as you adored your boyfriend, renjun, he was a bit of a klutz… your so called ‘dates’ were practically babysitting. thank goodness he has you by his side, otherwise, he might set something on fire.

it was sunday night. it’s typical for you to invite renjun to your apartment so you can keep him from doing anything too stupid. you sat on your bed as you watched renjun sit at the desk in front of you, typing away at an essay due tomorrow. you admired how his pretty hands moved across the keys to make clicks and clacks. the rhythm almost lulled you to sleep, but of course, renjun, who might as well be your child, had something to say.

“done!” the boy said while closing the laptop that gleamed in front of him, darkening the room ever so slightly.

“yay. good job.” you yawned and rubbed your eyes simultaneously.

“now i just need to print it.” he jumped out of his chair. “do you have paper?”

“yes.” you gestured over to your dresser. “it’s in that drawer.”

renjun waltzed over to open the drawer and reached in to grab a sheet of paper.

“ow ow ow” renjun suddenly exclaimed.

“what, what?!” you ran over to the boy.

“paper cut.” he cried over-dramatically.

you slouched a little in relief after remembering that renjun is just a drama queen, and it’s not actually the end of the world.

“yn,” he tried to pout while holding in his laughter, “it really hurts.”

“knock it off renjun.” you scoffed and turned around to walk back to the bed until renjun grabbed your shoulder and pulled you into his chest.

“kiss it better.” he said while pulling you closer.

“renjun. you’re way too old.” you tried to squirm away from his embrace.

“ynnnnnn” he whined. “ow ow owwwwwwww it really hurts.” he tugged on your arm.

you rolled your eyes before picking up his hand and placing a gentle kiss onto the teeniest tiniest cut on his pinky. “there. feel better now?”

“almost.” he replied, now pointing to his cheek, “it hurts here too.”

and so you kissed his cheek softly.

“and here.” this time pointing to his other cheek. then his nose. then his forehead. then his lips. the next thing you know, you’re kissing renjun all over the place.

“there.” you patted his cheeks. “all better now.” turning back to your bed, renjun pulls you in again.

“wait.” he whisperd. “bandaid.”

you slapped his shoulder playfully. “it’s not even bleeding! you can barely see it—”

“owwwwwww” you were cut off by renjun’s whining.

“fine. I’ll go get one.” you brought back a bandaid and wrapped it around renjun’s pinky, placing it over the invisible wound.

“now draw a smiley face on the bandaid.” renjun made yet another request.

you reached for a marker and traced over the surface of the bandage.

“ow that hurts.” he let out a very unnecessary whimper.

“you and i both know that didn’t hurt.” you said.

renjun looked to you and smiled. “it did! so can you at least do one more thing?”

“what, renjun.”

the boy looked down to his hand, and held out his bandaged finger in front of you.

“can you kiss it better?”

you and your childhood best friend!haechan have been inseparable since preschool, no matter how much you wanted to be separated from him. You hoped that by the time you reached college you would have escaped him, but he followed you there too.

you were taking a cinematography class, and of course, he was there as well. you had just been assigned a project where a group would choose a movie scene to reenact and film. of course, you and haechan were partners. the two of you got to work at his place.

“ynnnnnn” a high-pitched whine shook you awake. “yn you can sleep later. we have to choose a scene.”

you lifted your head off of the cold kitchen table.

“hyuck you watch tons of dramas…let’s just do your favorite movie or something…”

suddenly, a light when off in haechan’s eyes. “perfect.”

he flashed a devious smile and you didn’t dare to ask what he was thinking.

he pulled his laptop from his bag and pulled up a video. “let’s do this one.”

on his laptop was a clip, where the male lead was leaning against the wall with his his arm up above the female lead’s head.

you weren’t surprised at what haechan had suggested; he’s always been a flirt.

you playfully nudged his shoulder. “donghyuck be for real.”

“pleaaaaaaasssseeeeeee can we please do this one?” he stomped his feet underneath the table. “it’ll be funny. plus, the professor said whoever chooses romance films gets extra credit.”

and for some reason… you believed him.

“seriously?”

“mhmm” he smiled.

“i hate you.” you grabbed the camera from the table and set it up on the tripod. “im only doing this for the sake of my grade.”

“this is a good spot over here.” haechan led you over to a wall in his living room.

you watched the video a few times to take notes of how the scene played out. “so you’re supposed to pin me to the wall, and then you say “look at me”, umm then i look at you.” you paused the video, and pressed record on the camera. “okay. take 1.”

haechan approached you confidently, a little too comfortable. he reached his hand up to the side of your face, and leaned forward, inching closer towards you. “look at me.” he said. you couldn’t look at him. not when you could feel your face burning red. you stepped away from haechan’s gaze for a moment. “i forgot my line.” you said, still looking away. “you’re not even supposed to say anything yet.” haechan giggled. “is your heart fluttering already?” he teased you. “let’s just try again.” he pulled your shoulder to turn you around. “oh my gosh.” he covered his mouth to hold his laugh. “yn your face is so red!” he clapped his hands together. “i was just joking about your heart fluttering-”

you pushed him away. “im just a really good actor.”

“wowwww actor yn. can i get your autograph??” he gasped.

you just ignored him. “take 2” you adjusted the camera.

haechan approached you again. “look at me.” he said. this time, you did look at him. he smiled. you were waiting for him to continue with the scene, but he just stared at you. you noticed him getting closer, his head tilting ever so slightly to the side as his face came to yours. you wanted to seem annoyed but you didn’t bother trying; you were so distracted by him. you had never really looked at him so intently before. “haechan.” you whispered, stopping him, but not pushing him away. “you know, there’s no kiss in this scene.”

he had that suspicious smile pasted across his face, like a kid stealing candy. “i know.” he continued where he left off. soon enough, his lips and your lips were glued.

normally when haechan got even remotely close to your face, your reflexes would shove him, but oddly, you didn’t feel like that anymore.

you kissed him. you kissed your best friend and you didn’t mind at all.

“yn.” he broke away from the kiss. “what do you think about me?”

you came to a sudden realization that you did have feelings for your best friend, and you saw no point in lying to him. “i think i like-” you started.

“that’s what i thought.” haechan tilted your head up a little before kissing you again. he pulled your head in to his chest. “i’ve been waiting for this moment since 5th grade.” he hugged you tighter.

you were still a little shocked at what just happened, but you couldn’t help but enjoy the warmth of haechan’s embrace, and what a good feeling it was to be loved by him.

“wait,” you muttered. “is that thing still recording?” you inspected the camera. haechan laughed. “well i guess now i’ve got a new favorite movie.”

you ended up submitting that very video, and to your surprise, you did get extra credit.
