hi! sorry if this message is unwelcome; feel free to just block me if so, but i’m assuming this post is genuine, and i would love to elucidate if i can! the reason the genocide of palestinians is getting more attention than ever before recently is because on october 8th, 2023, the leading political party of palestine, hamas, launched an attack against israel. this attack was an action of violent resistance; i personally support violent resistance when it is necessary, but you’re welcome to have whatever opinion you want to about it. however, in response to this attack and the israeli citizens who died, israel began to bomb the gaza strip, a part of palestine, at a higher rate than we’d ever seen before. they didn’t avoid residential areas, they did nothing to avoid civilian casualties, and they killed palestinians indiscriminately, claiming anyone they killed was “hamas”. this included people like the young child hind, who was forced to watch her parents die in a horrific car bombing only to be stuck in the wreckage herself. israel allowed a paramedic to reach her through the rubble, giving her a brief moment of hope, only to bomb both herself and the paramedic before she could be helped. israel claimed the little children they’ve killed, young boys and girls no older than 8, were members of hamas. attacks like these have always been happening, but the reason it is getting so much public attention recently is the higher rate of bombings by israel, which they still claim is in response to october 8th despite them having killed many, many times more people since then. i hope this helps clear up why it’s getting more attention recently! and if you have any questions about it, i might be able to help or direct you towards other resources. it’s awesome that you’re looking for more information about something as massive as this. have a lovely day!
