headcanon: while they have suma as the first wife of tengen , my portrayal is that suma who volunteered would be the third wife. hina and makio were arrange marriages, so it was worked out among the families. suma volunteered when the two girls she knew, who wouldn't mistreat her in a comarriage . . . to marry tengen. it wasn't until tengen told them to put their lives first that her devotion to him and hina and makio solidified her determination to be of equal standing in this marriage. they care for each other and support one another. suma would have been the middle child in her family and brothers makio would be the oldest of her siblings
