The Valentine's Day lyrics to "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" my little sister and I made up together:
Rudolph the pink-red valentine
Had lots of very shiny stickers
And if you ever saw them
You would even say they flickers
All of the other valentines
Used to laugh and shun him lots
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any Valen-plotz
Then one foggy Valentine's
Cupid came to say,
"Rudolph with your shiny stickers,
You are a danger to the environment."
Then all the valentines shunned him more
And they all cried out to say,
"Rudolph the pink-red valentine,
You have to be recycled to-mo-rrow or to-day!"
How to make hot chocolate
Step 1: Create the universe.
Step 2: Make hot chocolate.
The first time my brother made a Minecraft world, he hit the rare chance of spawning in abysmal circumstances right smack on the nose.
I was there, watching, because we were young children who hadn't ever played Minecraft before and it was cool (you have to remember that this was during the golden- or should I say butter?- era of Minecraft parodies). There's so much romance and adventure in firsts, so we were all expecting great things. The world was called "TNT" because my brother knew about TNT in Minecraft- his favorite Minecraft parody was the one about it and explosions tend to be cool to eight-year-old children.
It was raining- or maybe it wasn't, but it began to rain soon after he spawned. This in itself is not terribly rare or bad. Really, it's just the cherry on top.
The actual spawnpoint was a tiny island in the middle of the ocean with no other land in sight- literally right on the dot of what it showed as a possibility of an unlucky spawn in the basic Minecraft guidebook we'd bought at a book fair. I don't think there was a single tree on the island. There was barely even any grass. It was just that small an island.
If any of us had been more experienced with the game, we would have probably realized that it would have been easy to just swim until we found more land. Pretty much the only things in the water back then were squids and, if one was unlucky, guardians. We did not realize this. In fact, I only realized yesterday.
My brother hung around, trying to figure out what to do, until a little after nightfall. He then exited the world and made a new one, which had a fine and normal spawnpoint.
TNT stayed there in the list of single player worlds for a while until it got deleted because nobody was ever going to use it. Even if it hadn't been deleted then, something happened in an update some time ago that made all the old worlds glitch and a lot of them disappear.
My point is that sometimes, no matter how much you want it to, the first will not be the best. Most people don't get married to their first crush. First attempts at baking or cooking are often frightful. The first time you set a finger on your instrument of choice to learn it, it probably won't spew forth a stream of glorious music. In life, it usually helps us to grow when the first time isn't so great. I don't know about this particular Minecraft experience compared to other Minecraft things, but maybe it was helpful in the real world. Important principles are just important; that's all.
I've heard it's super good, but I've never seen Howl's Moving Castle (as in the movie- a shame, I'm sure, but I just plain have not seen it). I have, however, read the book twice and its sequel once. Granted, this was when I was like 12 so I don't remember it terribly well, but the first was really good and the second was at least decent. Anyway I'm convinced that the movie might be as good, but there's no way it's better.
a revision because my sister says one must be all-powerful to create the universe:
Step 1: Become all-powerful.
Step 2: Create the universe.
Step 3: Make hot chocolate.
