Avant Garde Makeup Artists Would Be Wise To Take Cues From The Brown Pelican. Known For Their Incredible

Avant garde makeup artists would be wise to take cues from the Brown Pelican. Known for their incredible aesthetic sense, they use natural materials and dyes to accentuate and decorate their faces and gular pouches. Above, an accomplished artist poses to display their latest work during the 2013 Multimedia Pelical Arts Competition.

250 Follower Giveaway!

Beyond all reason, over 250 accounts are following me which I reckon puts The Academy of Bird Sciences solidly at a whole 100 non-spam followers! In honor of this occasion, I’m going to raffle off some of the infocards the Management forced me to fill out by hand and give to strangers!

First Prize (1 Available): A full set of ten (10) cards laboriously filled out by yours truly!

Second Prize (2 Available): A set of three (3) cards. I wish I could be whimsical and say they were randomly selected by an adorable budgie hopping upon them, but alas I do not have a bird companion.

Third Prize (3 Available): One (1) card. I really don’t have much else to offer, sorry!

The rules are simple: You have to reblog this post, and you have to send me an ask with your favourite bird or bird-like entity by 8 November 2015. One entry per person, please! Winners are selected randomly, and I am pretty sure I can swing postage worldwide.

The Belted Kingfisher Is One Of The Few Species Of True Birds Who Do Not Build Nests, Opting Instead

The Belted Kingfisher is one of the few species of True Birds who do not build nests, opting instead to keep the single egg safe in their mouth. Like their Penguin cousins only one of the breeding pair nurtures the egg at a time, but luckily their long beaks allow the non-carrying partner to poke food past the egg and allow the carrier to eat whilst brooding.

Perhaps The Most Photogenic Of The Various Sea-Birds, The Wandering Albatross Is Well Aware Of Its Looks.

Perhaps the most photogenic of the various Sea-Birds, the Wandering Albatross is well aware of its looks. Hatched with an innate knowledge of modeling techniques and attitudes, this well-featured bird is able to pose in a maximally-adorable manner within a mere four days of life. Above, a juvenile Wandering Albatross hams it up for the camera.

One Of The Most Bizarre Adaptations In The Animal Kingdom Belongs To The Humble Seagull. Where Other

One of the most bizarre adaptations in the animal kingdom belongs to the humble Seagull. Where other birds are driven by the Four Fs, Seagulls possess a perfect awareness of how fleeting and meaningless their lives are. This allows them to harass beachgoers and steal food without any regrets whatsoever, although on occasion you may find one struggling to cope with a universe that is both unfeeling and eternal.
