Like I understand the Felipe hatred, I do, but I think sometimes people forget that the Feywild arc and Felipe really pushed Gillion into seeing how his actions affected others and pushed him into seeing that he isn’t the “perfect chosen one” and he doesn’t have to be

With pulling the card that made Felipe hate him and seeing the fall out from that, the emotional torment that Felipe was going through, the confusion at hating him, the uncertainty of the new emotions that didn’t make sense and clashed in his mind he saw that what he does to people can hurt, he’s not innocent and things can’t easily be absolved. He tried to fix it and atone, but the damage was done, nothing could repair what had happened. Gillion tried to come up with a plan, but there is no way to fix something like that

With pulling the Dungeon card and abandoning Chip and Jay in the Feywild because he wouldn’t listen to them and as the chosen one does, he rushed into the situation without thinking of the consequences because there have been so few. But when he came back Chip almost died, Jay was a mess, they were both falling apart without him and again was reminded that he can’t just fix that. He hurt them and there is no easy fix. He can’t just fight his way out of it.

Hell even with all of Felipe’s wacky comments and actions Gillion still said if anything happened to him that Felipe would be the next chosen one. Gillion started to recognize that he doesn’t have to be this perfect solider, he doesn’t have to deny himself fun or friendships, he can steal lemons with his friends

The chosen one isn’t a strict moral code, it’s finding who you are without those titles and choosing your own path, your own destiny

Being the chosen one isn’t battle after battle, fight after fight, it’s finding what you believe in and protecting it and sometimes that means turning away from a fight, letting your friends help, or even just enjoying the days you have together

i am thinking about if,, if chip loses himself completely,, gillion doing another oath of vengeance type thing where his grief manifests as rage

except the problem is Who does he exact revenge on? they've already killed the person who killed chip, and his loss of himself has no one to blame,, so gillion has nowhere to direct the rage, no direction, no purpose,, and the grief consumes him.

he becomes feral, inconsolable, and furious. he becomes what he thinks he should have been, what he believes would have saved chip if he hadn't been so selfish - he becomes little more than a weapon to direct. you point, his teeth and claws and blade follow.

there is not much of gillion left, just the Champion, because the Champion wouldn't have let chip die, wouldn't have let him be lost, would have gotten there faster, would have been better.

so maybe, oath of vengeance is a bit of a misnomer. maybe it would be better to say he swore an oath of atonement.

(sometimes, when the battle is over, and all is quiet, you can see gillion slip out just a little bit. if its late at night, and you listen real close, you can just make out quiet sobbing from the captains quarters)

All I need is for someone to gently cup my face and tell me I'm not as doomed as I feel.
