Todays bind! Fools Gold, by @tigers1o1 !!
Personally, I absolutely adore the paper and bookcloth combination on this bind. I got the cloth a while back for free and I’ve been waiting for a chance to use it, and then my friend Cam got me this paper as a gift! It seemed way too perfect to not use!
This was a very exciting bind, because it gave me the opportunity to try something completely new, gilded edges!!
Although it didn’t turn out perfect, I’m still super proud of how clean it ended up. Plus, I personally think the flaws make it better :D
The typesetting here was very exciting for me. A few months ago Ty held a tattoo contest for the fic, and I couldn’t not use them when I saw the two finalist designs. So I went ahead and contacted the artists, and they both said I could use them!!

!! MAJOR JRWI EPISODE 114 SPOILERS AHEAD !!

I just had a sick and twisted fucking thought about episode 114 and I need to share it to the world.
Okay, so Chip realises his mistake- trusting Gillion's clone and failing to see the red flags because, well it's Gill (I could go on a rant about this too)- Gillion's clone has pushed him to the ground and is towering over him. If Chip could bleed, his nose would probably be bloody.
And at this exact moment, where Chip can't use his magic to defend himself and his best-friend is threatening to kill him- we cut back to the real Gillion, who is running up these flights of stairs away from a monster that could literally breathe on him and end his life, he's on 1HP.
AND HERE'S THE THING. HERE'S WHAT I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT.
Destiny's Blade glows in Gillion's hands and whispers that, 'Chip is about to die.'
Gillion- with zero hesitation- goes running to find him and save his life.
THIS SCENE HAS SO MANY LAYERS TO IT- YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW, MAN- ISTG.
So, for starters, Chip is undead- he physically cannot die, or at least not very easily; I'm guessing that it would take an incredibly powerful, god like entity/bad guy to actually end his undead life now. And yet, Destiny's Blade says that he's about to die.
The blade itself was designed for slaying the undead and the evil entities Gillion himself was designed to fight against- but when it comes to Chip, there's nothing Gillion wouldn't do to protect him with this sword. And that reflects on Destiny's Blade, I would imagine- the blade supports Gillion's destiny, his fight for good.
And to add to this, I don't know if Chip actually could've been killed by clone Gillion- but the idea that he came close and that the sword instinctually reached out to save his life is just- WRAH.
It also highlights just how scared Chip was, because he couldn't fight the clone even if he wanted to, not only because of the magic barrier- but because it's Gill, his co-captain, his best-friend, his paladin (a pirate and his paladin I'm sorry- I love them sm lmao).
And yes, Gillion is known for taking ridiculous risks to keep his friends safe, willing to take every blow and keep fighting like it doesn't hurt because he's a knight, he was trained for this, this is what he's good at- but he runs to find Chip, ON 1HP. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH- THIS MAN WAS IN PIECES, HIS SKIN HAD BEEN TAKEN FROM HIM, AND IF NOT FOR THE DEATH WARD HE PROBABLY WOULD'VE DIED. But he runs off to find him anyway, no hesitation, no thought of his own well-being, only that Chip is in serious danger and he needs to save him. He won't let him die twice.
PRAYING THAT SOMEONE READS THROUGH THIS TANGENT TBH BECAUSE I'M GOING INSANE RIGHT NOW- I'M SORRY THIS IS SO LONG LMAO 😭🙏

SPOILERS FOR JRWI EPISODE 108
So, heh, how do we feel about Episode 108?
I 100% agree that Gillion only kissed Chip to solve the puzzle. However, relistening to that scene, as Grizzly was explaining how the pathway opens, Bizly says that “Chip doesn’t notice” I take that as: “Chip is too focused on Gill and having a gay panic over him that literally nothing else is happening around him to him.” I take that kiss as the moment Chip fell in love with Gillion, and it hit him like a ton of bricks.
HOWEVER, Chip has been trying to ignore those feelings either because internalized homophobia in general or if we’re going the trans Chip route, he feels that liking guys is to “feminine.”
In any case, that’s probably why he was so fixated on Edyn, because they said that she looked EXACTLY like Gill. Cause I’m pretty sure he started crushing over her before he even spoke to her (don’t quote me on that). Which yeah, I get it, people can develop crushes on people based on appearance alone, but like…
With a girl that looks EXACTLY like the dude that you’re feeling strange things about which is weird because he’s a dude, you’d probably justify like “oh, he’s just good looking, aesthetically-wise, because like, this chick is hot too, but she’s a chick so I wanna date her, cause I’m not gay for my friend or anything.”
Idk if that makes any sense.
Spoilers for 108 up ahead
However, Gillion has (in my head) gradually fallen in love with Chip, not even realizing it until Chip is gone. I think once this fight ends, Gill will be horrified and worried once the adrenaline has worn off and Star is doing the best to get Chip to regain consciousness.
And when Chip does, Gillion will probably hug the living daylights out of him and ball his eyes out because he took Chip for granted and almost lost him without realizing the way he felt towards the bastard.
This probably makes no sense, but whatevs.
i wanna preface this by saying i love fish and chips and im insane about it and oughhh if you are a Certified FnC Person this may hurt you but then again, your delusions may also shield you.
the Nat 20 kiss has only been interpreted as romantic so far (at least as far as I've seen) but I think we really need to consider how little Gillion knows about Oversea culture as a general rule. We see a lot in the early episodes (and even in some recent ones) that Gillion doesn't fully understand the way humans go about their relationships. He knows there's romance of course, but his knowledge of how they show affection seems to be pretty limited. At the point in the story when the crew was at the Isle of Ire, Gillion probably hadn't seen much of Oversea relationships, especially considering how most of the Riptide crew's time was spent sailing in isolation. All Gillion knew going into the sanctuary was that the door required an act of true love, not specifically the romantic kind. I think it's pretty clear that the co-captains loved each other a lot at that point in the story, at least platonically, and I think the Roll for Genuity really could have just been how genuinely they loved each other, in any way (up for interpretation obviously). Obviously Gillion has seen people kiss before, and most likely understood it as an act of affection, but not necessarily as romantic. Gillion very well could have kissed Chip with genuine love, simply thinking that it was a simple form of affection, like hugging. Chip obviously also loves Gill, but he wasn't the one who initiated the kiss (it's not clear whether he kissed back or not) so we can't be sure if Chip's love for Gill is platonic or romantic.

Okay, I’m thinking about the fact that the way Gillion flavors Detect Good and Evil as sniffing out whatever, and I just realized the fact that that means Chip reeks of evil to Gillion now, and how the hell are they gonna be able to cuddle now that Chip smells like something Gill was taught to destroy and-

to me, in my heart, fnc is just gillion admiring chip and thinking he's so good and kind and selfless and wonderful and chip just being oblivious and nervous and thinking stuff like do i smell bad? are my teeth gross? oh god does gill hate me
just a total subversion of expectations. like you'd THINK gillion would be the dumb and oblivious one, and i guess he kind of still is, but he's also a paladin. he only knows how to commit his entire heart to something. as they've both grown, he's only ever seen improvement in chip and chip's honorability, and in turn he's been changed BY chip for the better, as well, and he's very aware of this fact, and loves him for it despite how terrifying the change can be.
and chip may seem like his lack of self esteem and stuff would lead to him building up gillion in his head and seeing himself as inferior, but i wayyyy prefer him just being a silly dumbass who still hasn't noticed gillion staring at him like he's the most beautiful poem he's ever read. just tripping over himself as he grapples with his feelings while gill is entirely in acceptance with his own, even though both think their feelings are one-sided
