The Worlds Worst borrower

this is my first time posting writing so feel free to suggest ways to improve! I'm open to suggestions :)

Chapter 1: is.. not a mouse

(sorry to the person who wanted me to keep the emoticons.. I got rid of them :0)

They had a rodent problem. The mess was proof enough to Theo. Another small hole in one of their snack bags, crumbs leading to a crack in the wall. 

While examining the mess, Anne walked in. 

“Heya Theo! What’s up?” she chimed. 

“Nothing much but..” he trailed off, focusing on cleaning the mess.

“Did the mouse come back?” she guessed.  

“Yeah..” Theo replied. 

“What should we do about it?”

“Uh... use a trap I guess.” 

“But those hurt the mouse!” Anne fretted.

“We’ll use one that doesn’t.” Theo explained.

He finished cleaning as Jake walked in.  “Hey guys, what’s up?”

“The mouse is back.” Anne answered. 

“Ah.”

The three of them were a little group of friends and they often hung out in their clubhouse - an ADU on Theo’s house that they remodeled. And now it was infiltrated by a mouse.

“So we’re getting a trap?” Jake questioned.  

“Yeah, we are.” Theo answered.

“I can go get one now..” Jake offered. 

“You just got here!!” Anne insisted

“We can get one later. Let’s hang out for now.” Theo suggested. 

”What if the mouse has diseases? We could get sick.” Jake rebutted. 

“...Fair point.” 

“Let’s go together then! So we can still hang out.” Anne compromised.

And like that a plan was made.

Niki woke up to the smell of food. She’d hadn't gone out last night, and was curious.

She was a kid, living alone and had happened upon a safe place without others living in it. She didn’t know much about being a borrower though. She just knew to stay hidden and only go out when people weren’t at home or were asleep. No one was there at night so for the most part she only really hid at day.

After a bit of mindless wandering, she found the source of the smell.

She’d been walking around the counter towards the smell. It was dark and she wasn’t paying attention. She fell off the edge. Barely held in a scream. But something cushioned her fall. She got up, dazed, and stumbled forward, trying to regain her balance. 

Then she heard a slam behind her.

Her lack of awareness of her surroundings had caused her to fall right in. She pulled at the closed door, and tried to find an escape, but there was no way out.

She was trapped.

It was morning. It was time to see if the trap had worked.

The group met up outside the clubhouse, and prepared to go in.

“I hope the mouse didn’t get hurt.” Anne worried. 

“The trap we got shouldn’t hurt it,” Jake reassured her “you were there when we picked it out.” 

“Let’s go in.” Theo reminded them “So we can know if the mouse even got stuck in the first place.”

“Ok, let’s go!”

And the three headed in.

Niki woke up to the sound of the door opening. She didn’t remember falling asleep, she just blinked and she was lying down. During the daytime. In the open. In a trap. About to get spotted.

She curled herself into a ball in a far back corner and could feel every footstep as they got closer, and then - abruptly stopped.

She looked up and froze. 3 people were staring down at her. Shocked. Confused. In awe.

Silence. For too long.

And finally, words. Though.. not comforting.

“That is.. not a mouse.”

i was rewriting some ocs lore and I think you might want to read their story but idk I'm scared

anyways here's the end of the first chapter on Google docs (I write in comfortaa, my favorite font! also 1-2 shades lighter than black because I can)(oh also cool font thing for different voices that doesn't translate to tumblr ;;)
