Every once in a while I'm tempted to redraw this one. I'd love to give Azul Jamil's precise hairstyle and give Jamil more wavy hair. Someday maybe I'll really do it.

There was once a boy who had a little nine-year-old brother. He was so cute and lovable that no one could look at him without liking him, and he himself loved him above everything else in the world.

He was his best friend after all.

He and his little brother then had a plan, to run away. Unfortunately, the day that they chose to run, tragedy then struck. The boys got cornered and when the boy awaken his little brother was gone.

The boy could not be comforted, and wept day and night and locked himself away in his for over two years. Soon afterwards, after his brother had been buried, he appeared at night in the places where he had sat and played during his life, and if the boy wept, he wept also. When morning came, he disappeared.

When the boy would not stop crying, he came one night in the little white shroud in which he had been laid in his coffin, and with his wreath of flowers round his head. He stood on the bed at his feet, and said, "Oh, big brother, do stop crying, or I shall never fall asleep in my coffin, for my shroud will not dry because of all thy tears, which fall upon it." The boy was afraid when he heard that and wept no more. The next night the child came again, and held a little light in his hand, and said, "Look, big brother, my shroud is nearly dry, and I can rest in my grave.” Then the boy gave his sorrow into the God's keeping, and bore it quietly and patiently, and the child came no more, but slept in his little bed beneath the earth.

Then an idea came to the boy, to put his little brother back together.

That way, his little brother can be the hero he always dreamed of being....

Yes, I did take the original Brothers Grimm story and I wrote this with the Shroud siblings in mind.

I'm rather proud of this drawing, I'm actually happy with the lighting (even though compared to other pieces of art it's rather shit lmao.)

Ok, another self-indulgent coz I'm weak to some meme redraw and this one was fun.

I'm a fervent "genuine cane user Azul" believer, just so you know. It just makes sense ? Guy who's got his legs cut from eight to two, who has bones and has to face gravity for the first time in his life, etc.

In the original Little Mermaid story, the mermaid's legs actually hurt her a lot whenever she took a step. Maybe it's not to that point for Azul, but he's explicitly said to have poor balance and stamina. A cane would just be the perfect mobility aid for him in all aspects.

(Soulmates can be interperted as both platonic or romantic, so its up to you)

Am I late to this trend? Yes. Did I reuse an old frame? Yes. Also, this post is not an excuse for Kalim hate. It’s just so interesting to me how Kalim never realized how much he hurt Jamil. Its also interesting how the roles can be just as easily switched, with Jamil being the one hurting Kalim. It was difficult to choose who would take which role in this animatic, but I eventually decided on this, since Kalim burns away at Jamil, he keeps him away from what Jamil himself wants. In the end Jamil is just a commodity for Kalim, an accessory. Now of course Kalim doesn’t see Jamil that way, but Jamil does feel that way, and he hates it. Jamil has to be perfect for Kalim, but he can’t be better than him. Kalim burns away at him and uses him as a fuel. Jamil has to fix Kalim’s many mistakes. He can’t fly away, because he’s stuck with Kalim.

I love the Scarabia duo so much, and they have so much to think about and so much depth and complexity. Every day I worry that I misunderstood something or mischaracterize them, which makes me very anxious, but I always at least try to make my observations and animatics as accurate as possible, and when I do get something wrong I like to see it as a learning moment!
