It's nights like these

Walking around

In the cool breeze

It's so calming

Crickets cricket loudly

I stand on a balcony overlooking the city

Shimmering in its quiet splendor

Like a sea of fireflies it shines.

Birds of the night call

That they may be noticed by us

In the distance, and yet so close.

A flash of lightning

Thunder rolls in the distance

But no rain on this cold night

Only a cool breeze.

I can't stay for long however,

But the city will be here forever,

Waiting for my eventual return.
