You don't need to impress anyone with your writing. Yes, that includes that one person that you really were hoping would like it.

If the changes they feel you should make makes you feel your story would no longer be the story you want it to be, no one said they have to like it. Trust me, I know it's disappointing and hurts when the people whose opinions you hold dear aren't into your writing, but who says they won't like another of your ideas later down the road?

Don't give up on your ideas for your project because of someone else. Just keep creating. One day, you may make something they like. Or your taste in writing may not be their taste in reading. And there is no shame in that. Just keep creating what makes you happy.

Even if they don't like it, someone else will.
