I’m gonna be “controversial” again.

The whole “asexuality was invented by snowflakes on Tumblr” is ridiculous because we have traces of that label being used in LGBT+ circles AGES before internet was a thing. Just because its definition has SLIGHTLY changed since isn’t a viable excuse to dismiss that fact. Please find another argument as to why we aren’t one of you.

The whole "ace people have no place among us because we're fighting for our SEXUALITY, and they don't have one, they're basically the opposite of us" is ridiculous because Trans people are LGBT+ and almost always have been, and their stuggles have much more to do with identity than sexuality. Besides, don’t we all agree that people who want to “drop the T” are TERFs and transphobes, and that they’re bad? LGBT+ isn't about who you bang, it's about who you ARE. Please find another argument as to why we aren’t one of you.

The whole “Asexuals don’t face enough struggles to be considered oppressed in any way, or at least, they don’t struggles as much as homosexuals/bisexuals do so really they shouldn’t complain” is ridiculous because the point of improving society is not to stop once a few things have been accomplished. We want a society as close to perfect as possible, do we not? If a problem is systemic then it should be addressed and changes NEED to be made. EVERYONE can and should be respected and heard for their systemic struggles. I (and MANY others) had therapists and doctors immediately question if I had been abused or if my hormones aren't out of whack when I confessed being ace, just like fat people will have their problems overlooked and immediately blamed on their weight. We are stigmatised and sometimes treated as sub-humans because we don't "breed". This society is aphobe, but a lot of people deny it because the violence we face isn't "as bad" as the violence other minorities face. Homosexuals also do struggle less than Trans people on average according to peer reviewed data. What does this mean? Nothing. Suffering isn't a competition! There's not a limited amount of justice and validity to go around that you'd have to distribute sparingly. We all can get some of that without you feeling threatened. Please find another argument as to why we aren’t one of you.

The whole “Ok, sure, asexuals are valid but they should have their own safe spaces instead of trying to invade ours” is ridiculous because our safe spaces online have been actively destroyed by people who think like you. Tumblr isn’t our safe bastion anymore. Also, what is scaring you so much? All the criticism of what we might or might not do if we officially join your ranks is based on misinformation and aphobia. Do you truly think we’re gonna make the LGBT+ movement about hating sex and silencing you, or are you clinging onto excuses? Last I checked, you’re the one patronizing us, attributing things to our sexuality that are untrue and unfounded, and ruining our safe spaces. Most asexuals are pro-sex positivity, even those who are sex-repulsed (which means they just don’t wanna look at porn or hear about oral in excrutiating details, NOT “I don’t want anyone to have sex ever uwu”. Come on). Please find another argument as to why we aren’t one of you. 

Or, and that is just a thought, you could just admit that you’re aphobe because the thought of people being valid for having a lifestyle you can’t understand is extremely uncomfortable to you (does this sound familiar?). How about you leave us the fuck alone instead of harrassing us, strawmaning us, and speaking over us every time we speak up about our struggles or merely make the oh so shocking claim that we are real and valid.
