something i appreciate about community's depiction of abed is how he's not only cool with physical affection from his friends, he's often the one who initiates it. he loves his friends, his friends love him and they enjoy being close. they find comfort in each other's presences. i feel like this sort of thing is rare in media featuring autistic characters idk it just makes me love him (+ the study group) more

I will never be able to stop thinking about how Abed calls Jeff 'crazy' in season 6.

Abed, the person who has spent his entire life asserting to himself, and trying to convince everyone else, that he is not crazy. That word has weight to him, after so long running on a frequency parallel to reality.

This is especially in regards to Jeff, the sort-of protagonist of his story, often the straight man. Someone who can connect with people in a way Abed only wishes to be able to. The closest to a bastion of straight, white, conventionally attractive normality Abed has.

Abed who often prefers to observe rather than interfere, because so often it turns out to be the wrong step, feels confident enough to turn the accusation of 'crazy' outward. Abed is not the crazy one for once, Jeff is. The action he takes so far out of the realm of usual, reasonable, and right that it is the first word he thinks to grab. Jeff is being crazy.

And yet nothing comes of it. Abed forgives. Because he knows what it is like to be seen as crazy. Because it's better than the alternative of losing another friend, even if he gets hurt.
