little brain: mrs lovett lies to sweeney even though his wife is literally around their shop all the time and they're bound to run into each other eventually because she dehumanizes lucy. she considers her a thing, trash. she is so confident in her own superiority that she believes that lucy's poverty and mental illness make her invisible to "respectable" people. and the sad thing is she's mostly right - until the end.

little brain: judge turpin doesn't recognize sweeney even though he's donig the exact same barbering in the exact same location because he has such contempt, such hatred, for the little people whose lives he destroys that he's beneath his notice. he ruined sweeney's life that day, it was the defining moment that would turn him benjamin barker into a vengeful monster. but for the honorable judge turpin, it was just another tuesday on the job.
