This Is An Extract To Why Sam And Bucky Are In Love And Should Be In The Falcon And Winter Soldier.
This is an extract to why Sam and Bucky are in love and should be in the falcon and winter soldier.
Apart from the fact that they’re literally in love, now that Steve decided to yeet back in time to get with his ex (life wasn’t living if Tony wasn’t with him, we forgive you Steve) Bucky has no one left, right? No one that actually cares enough about him, that sees him more than a broken man with a past, than a metal arm that took lives- apart from Sam.
Sam doesn’t step around him like broken glass, he’s not going to treat him any less or is going to be too afraid to say something in case it’d hurt him, no instead he’ll say exactly what he means. And also, snarky comments and petty behavior is what makes them little shits but that’s what they love about each other. Bucky can’t have that with anyone else because they treat him like he has “treat with caution” written all over him.
And now, the soul stone world. Bucky had just finished fighting his own battles only to be thrusted into another one which leaves him to dust (quite literally) and who the hell has he got there? No one. Apart from Sam, who no matter what is going to be there every step of the way. Because yes, he was a bit cold and stand off when he first knew about Bucky Barnes but he did risk his life multiple times and dropped everything to look for a man he barley knew and tried to kill him more than once. But hey, good things start rocky, right?
Finally, we come to Sam Wilson - Bird boy - The Falcon - Captain fucking America. Prior to the Avengers and all’a that. He was a military man who lost his teammate, his best friend in combat Riley and he felt like he could do nothing, “only up there to watch,” in his very own words. So, he’s pretty familar with loss, right? Knows the gut wrenching feeling that tugs and tugs and creeps it’s way into your dreams and reality.
But nonetheless, he’s ready to go through it all again if that means helping someone else. He knows how it feels to loose someone important to you which is why he made sure to help Steve so he didn’t loose Bucky, because God, he knows how shattering that feels. And when all is said and done, he becomes a fugitive as well as being on the run with Natasha Romanoff and Steve Rogers for two years.
Only to be snapped to dust in the middle of battle, he has no one left. Apart from Bucky, who like Sam, is with him every step of the way.
So, when Sam is brought back 5 years later only for that feeling to come again as he looses both Steve and Natasha. He’d just lost five years of his fucking life and that gut wrenching feeling is still there, manages to creep it’s way back into his heart.
But Bucky is there for him, because God knows he knows how it feels to loose apart of yourself while loosing someone else. They both lost Steve, they both lost five years of their lives but you know what? They lost it together.
And what better way than to make up those five years they lost together as well. Because no new love interest or random hook up will truly make Sam feel how Bucky makes him feel and no one will understand Bucky the way Sam does.
They deserve to be happy and hell, if they’re happy together then so fucking be it.

Can we take a moment to really appreciate Euphoria's queer rep? I went in thinking "oh, they're gonna be coy with Rue and Jules the entire time and that's the most we're gonna get." And I was so wrong. This is the first big mainstream show I'm seeing where we have both queer protagonists and queer antagonists: Rue/Jules whom are together, and Cal and Nate who are father and son. (cal isn't so much an antagonist in that he deliberately gets in the way of our main characters but he's NOT A GOOD PERSON)
Also I don't watch much TV to begin with so take that whole "I've never seen big mainstream tv do this before1!1!1!1!!!!" with a hefty piece of salt lol.
Before I get into the characters can I just say I love Maddy's conversation with Kat asking about sexuality and Kat replies that "It's a spectrum." and she goes as far to say how there's "gay, bi, pan, etc" (she doesn't say exactly this I'm paraphrasing). The fact that these words are said on screen is so amazing: the words bisexual and pansexual don't get said a lot in shows with visibly queer characters from what I hear, and pan even less so. It's really nice to have these words said, especially when at least 2 of the queer characters are explicitly unspecified multisexuals (jules and cal. nate I'm not counting since he's still questioning).
Rue is explicitly wlw and Jules is a multi-identity queer character. She's trans, multisexual, and as of the finale, polyamorous. Their relationship isn't perfect, and there's things to work out, but all these nuances make it feel so much more real. They're not perfect people by any means (no one is, really), but they're not BAD people, though they make some bad decisions. They're our protagonists in love. I love that this show went a step beyond the common "white cis lesbians/gays in love" for their rep. They're amazing and I'm jittering with anticipation for what we'll see next season.
On the other side, we have a couple antagonist characters that are also queer. For one, the fact that we HAVE queer antagonists is something. It's a general rule of thumb to not make antagonists or characters that do fundamentally BAD things as queer since it contributes to homophobic ideology that queer = evil. But when you have multiple queer characters that are on BOTH sides, you can have queer antagonists. Nate hasn't labeled himself with anything, in fact, he's still questioning, so we can't exactly say he's queer in that regard yet, but questioning is questioning. Cal on the other hand is very clearly multisexual, but also kind of a fucker that should locked the fuck up in jail lmao. And you know what? It's fine that they're like this.
Had it been that those two were the ONLY queer rep in the show, it would have been homophobic as all fuck. But because we have Rue and Jules, the main characters, giving us rep alongside characters like Cal and Nate, now it's just "here are our good guys and the not so good guys also they're all queer."
Let's not forget about Lexi either. Almost everyone is convinced she has a crush on Rue and is probably a little jealous of Jules. It's not exactly discreet when Gia tells her "I think Rue is in love with Jules" to which Lexi replies with that telling "Oh..."
So many human roles can be afforded to these characters. By that I mean, bc there isn't the One Token Queer Character, these ppl have room to breathe and be their own, nuanced characters. The burden of being a token character for representation is lifted, so they don't have to fit a very careful box in how they are in order for it to not be homophobic. I love and really appreciate that about this show. I'm hyped to see more.
