@shiftythrifting is selling stolen designs from an independent artist (please spread)

for anyone not aware, shiftythrifting is primarily a submission based blog to share funny thrift store finds, and it has a very large number of followers

at some point, shifty started selling merchandise based on fan-favourite submissions. some of these are based on funny objects but others are tshirts based on real clothes that had found in thrift stores by followers of the blog. you can see how this might be a problem: shifty is selling basically copies of other shirts that already exist and were designed by someone else: essentially, art theft.

cue, the villains shirt:

when i first saw this shirt i couldn’t believe it because i recognised it instantly. the original shirt in the thrift store is merchandise created by an independent singer-songwriter in 2018, emma blackery, for her ‘villains’ album. the shirts are no longer for sale in her official store so the evidence below is from an instagram post and a re-sale website but it’s pretty obvious that this is where the original thrifted shirt comes from

this means that @shiftythrifting is literally selling knockoffs of an independent artists work, which is copyright infringement (it doesn’t matter if the original shirt is no longer available, that’s still emma blackery’s IP).

i’ve attempted to contact shifty about this but received no reply. i’ve also contacted emma’s management about the issue.

please spread this so people are aware and maybe the blog will respond.
