today at work a coworker warned me that my patient’s owner let us know her cat is homophobic, meaning he tends to attack gay people violently on sight, which I thought was a joke. but that cat saw me and may have been the angriest cat I’ve ever worked with and DID in fact bite me through Kevlar gloves because he hated me so much

arthur wasn't there for his wife or daughter when they needed him most. he was dead when john needed him the most. he was the hand perpetrating his best friend's worst nightmare. he was the one lunging at a prisoner in the pit. he led the butcher right to daniel. he led noel to his gruesome fate. he amputated a priest. he killed uncle.

AND YET

arthur raised faroe on his own instead of giving her to an orphanage. he grew up without parents and decided somewhere along the line that faroe would not experience the same. he taught an eldritch god to love. he befriended creatures in the dreamlands. he helped lorick when he could've let the pits harden his heart. he mended his torn relationship with daniel. he sought out friendship with noel so john could share in it. he gave up friendship with oscar to save him from further harm. he accepted a proffered drink (and all that it meant afterward) from parker, despite doubting he deserved it. he saved a baby lost on the road. he was kind to a wraith. his memory of faroe was so strong it confused the embodiment of madness. his influence caused Yellow to question his existence and yearn for more. he annoyed larson to near-death. he befriended marie and helped her recover her sister. he went back into the mine in addison and saved the trapped souls. he went through hell and kept caring anyway.

my point is. Arthur may have caused substantial pain and grief, both through his choices and through being manipulated. but he's also trying SO HARD to be better. despite everything he has hope. and that is SO important to me.
