some of you have never developed a crush on your friend, wooed him by trying to teach him how to drive stick whilst swearing poetically, dragging him around on a moving dolly, flinging him out of a shopping cart, creeping into his place of work and scaring the living crap out of him, giving him a terrible mix tape with his least favourite song on it, breaking into his car to leave him cream because you’re worried about the state of his hands which you are obsessed with, showing him your herd of sleeping cows, pretending to examine his hand for a demon so you can hold it for a few seconds, momentarily terrified him by revealing you dreamt up a sentient forest, all before finally kissing him in your childhood bedroom and then going to wave your arms around on the roof in excitement, and still got the boy, and yeah…. it shows.

i know we always say andrew chose neil over aaron but really andrew chose himself. for probably the first time in his life he chose his happiness, his life, and his choice to choose something good and something that was part of his recovery. i just really want to talk about that because ever since finding out he had a twin and a cousin he never chose himself, not really. he did what he thought was best for them even at the cost of himself. even when kevin offered him a chance to live, he never actual chose it. he fought kevin tooth and nail and wasn’t going to hand it over easily. but when aaron brought neil into the bargain, andrew finally decided that he wanted something for himself, something so badly, so scary yet so undeniable he ended his deal with aaron. he wasn’t choosing neil, he was choosing him. andrew chose the thing that could break him, destroy him, but never would. he chose the thing that instead of hurting him, helped him, made him feel alive, made him trust, and made him realize he could also have something good. something that didn’t cost him something of himself.

andrew didn’t choose neil, he chose himself, and together they chose each other and i think that’s really important to talk about.

the ‘which one is andrew’ game

one day during the fox movie night, nicky suggests they watch some anime for a change

no one opposes

(neil: whats an anime?

allison: oh honey, now we NEED to do this)

and because they have TASTE, they decide the first anime is going to be the beloved ‘Ouran Highschool Host Club’

the upperclassmen + nicky are loving the nostalgia 

kevin and neil are having trouble understanding the appeal

and aaron and andrew are staying very silent the entire time

which is normal for them, but tonight it seemed almost nervous 

no one understood why they were so on edge UNTIL they get to the Scene

that’s right, the ‘which one is hikaru’ game scene

and everyone just slowly turns towards the twinyards with a “are you thinking what im thinking?” look

the twins do not make eye contact

matt: *clears throat* h-

andrew: no.

nicky: but-

aaron: absolutely not.

and then neil (who was still struggling to retain all this pop culture information) finally clicks into what everyone is talking about and goes

neil: oh hey! andrew, you and aaron should do that cause you guys are twins like the characters

andrew, almost immediately: fine.

aaron begrudgingly agrees after some puppy eyes and thinly veiled threats

and so it begins

they both change into similar outfits and aaron borrows a pair of armbands (the sole thing that helps basically everyone identify each brother)

bets are made for who would be the best at telling the difference

the popular vote is nicky because he has spent the most time with both of the twins, and the runner up is renee because she’s renee.

unsurprisingly enough, the game is pretty difficult.

everyone tries to play to see who can correctly identify each twin but no one seems to be able to get a streak going

(kevin: i can barely recognize you guys even with the armband difference, this is fucking unfair)

the highest score was renee with 4 points, but even she was having trouble with it

finally after the episode finishes in the background, neil tunes in and starts playing (he kept watching because he ended up becoming interested in the show and wanted to understand it like everyone else)

and he is on fire

every single time without fail, he’d step forward and inspect each one, and casually point to andrew

the rest of the foxes are going mad trying to figure out what it is that neil sees, that the rest just don’t

allison even tries to bribe neil into telling her, but he just shrugs and says “i just know, i guess”

eventually the night comes to a close and they all go back to their respective rooms

and as per usual, andrew and neil retreat to the roof for a bit

andrew looks like he has something to say, and neil is pretending not to notice

finally he cracks

andrew: what was it?

neil: what was what?

andrew: the difference.

and neil looks at him, the sweetest and most loving smile breaking out on his face, and says

neil: when i was looking at you two, you were the only one that looked back.

andrew turns away and just grumbles out a “201%”

bonus:

neil: also because your ass is nicer than his

andrew:

andrew: 301%

neil: but we were just at 201%?

andrew: that comment alone was worth an extra 100 points

Physically I’m here but mentally I’m in a secluded corner of a library in england, curled up in an armchair working my way through reading an Agatha Christie book while sipping the hot coffee that i snuck in.
