Whit seems to be someone who may have been left to fend for himself since very young, a complete contract to Charles. Whit's main copying mechanism is avoidance and straight up not aknowledginh when something bad happens. He has been avoiding aknowleging his mom's death for so long. and if he was also distant from his dad, we conclude: Whit has had no emotional support from even his own family. He has NO training with vulnerabily or giving or receiving proper emotional support. He is friendly but ultimately distant. He talks a big game to teruko about how she can have friends now but when the situation goes south and everyone sans Eden turns on her he just goes with the flow.

Now, despite that I still think Whit is genuinely trying to look after Charles. He is kinda giving Charles special treatment given everything I described so far. it's just that. Whit is Like That™. He doesn't really know a different way to deal with things.

Charles' recent character development is from realising he's been sheltered by his parents to an unhelpful degree (which is the complete opposite of Whit's upbringing) and changing his avoidant before; Accepting that he does need his peer's companionship and support and accepting Whit's friendship. OR THAT'S WHAT WE THOUGHT INITIALLY. that's what you'd think looking at them? BUT NO. First Whit says that back in the trial he didn't really mean it when he said he and Charles are friends, but Charles was the one who took it to heart and started following Whit around and whit's like "so I guess we're friends now" which I think I could translate to to "oh shit he's actually relying on me now. better not fuck this up" (because Whit IS aware that his avoidant behaviour and jocking around ends up hurting people)

Charles is kind of.... vulnerable and dependant. If Whit's idea of trying to look after Charles is to tell him to cover his eyes, wouldn't that be same thing his parents did? Wouldn't that mean Charles got attached to Whit so fast because the dynamic felt familiar?

And even if Whit has good intentions- if he cares about Charles despite the avoidant tendencies and how deep down he's afraid to get attached to someone again because of how much it would hurt to lose them- even Whit doesn't want Charles to experience terrible things again, both as someone who experienced something terrible himself and likely had no one to lean on during all that, as the person Charles is relying on, as someone who just cares about charles... it's just not what Charles wants.

If Charles' parents kept information from him, about Ellie's death, about his amnesia, or who knows what else, im pretty sure Charles does NOT appreciate it. he even straight up told teruko he does not like how everyone looks at him with pity BC of his condition. He dislikes feeling weak like that. He decided to learn how to Cook and he probably wishes he could just get over his fear of blood too. but that's just not how it works. you can really tough it out through exposure. You can't get used to a killing game and you shouldn't. Even if Charles does not want to keep being in the dark about things, that doesn't mean he should do it all alone. He CANT deal with all of that all alone. BUT he is trying to change. He trying to face these unpleasant things, which is something whit has never even attempted to do.

He did not look away and he could not have looked away. This is Teruko we're talking about. This could have been the very last time he ever saw her alive.

there’s something so hopeful about akutagawa no longer being weighed down by dazai’s words and free from his inherent manipulation due to his amnesia….and with this he is able to truly show us the maximum power of his own ability, unrestrained and untainted from dazai’s expectations of him.

previously, aku was only focused on getting stronger because it was dazai who was pushing him, dazai who was experimenting with him to truly bring out the potential he saw.

but now, aku has someone else to protect. he is a “martyr” for justice, as he said when he wielded the sword. bram’s resolve has manifested into a mindset that will truly take advantage of akutagawa’s inherent nature to defend and protect. like he did with his friends in the slums. like he does with his sister.

now we will all truly get to see just how powerful he can be. what his resolve is made of.

everyone suggesting whit is claustrophobic and nobody suggesting charles is claustrophobic and that on top of all the blood in the trial room, everyone possibly being trapped there without elevator access was enough to make whit get mad at monotv. we spent a lot of the trial talking about levi not having an inherent sense of empathy, but whit is the one whose sense of compassion feels most screwy to me.

whit appears completely undisturbed through multiple people's brutal deaths. levi gets bullets through him and everyone's freaking out about getting him medical treatment ASAP, except whit. whit's primary concern was that charles didn't close his eyes and saw all the blood from it. the only things whit ever brings up with any sense of seriousness relate to charles. this goes beyond ship fuel or mastermind/traitor bait, i'm half beginning to suspect this ultimate matchmaker is just a very dedicated yandere
