Did you ever do a post addressing the age gaps in tvd? I don’t remembering seeing anything.

I’ve come across a lot of people claiming Stefan and Damon are creepy for falling in love with a 17 year old when they are over 100 years old.

But I always thought they would just date age appropriate people, even if that person is human. So Stefan with Elena or Damon with Andi (although that wasn’t really dating). Because it doesn’t matter when you were turned, you look like 17/25 so that’s who you date? 🤷🏿‍♀️

Or should they have been searching for vampires who look age appropriate to them and left Elena alone?

Eh, I have spoken about it. I have a few thoughts. 

1. If people are going to take issue with this plot, they have to take issue with the entire trope of vampires falling in love with teenage humans

2. I’ve always been of the belief that it does not matter the age. If a vampire is 200 years old and dating a 24 year old person, it’s still absolutely ridiculous to me because the vampire has been alive for over 2 human life spans, there is no such thing as an ‘age appropriate’ human for a vampire. 

3. Vampires are more than their age, or well they should be, like it’s not just a human who has been alive a really long time and drinks blood occasionally, they’re supernatural creatures, they’ve become an entirely different thing/species, which means that age may be an entirely different concept at that point.

Like the reason why Damon is creepy to me is because he’s written as a human predator, rather than a supernatural one, like when he fetishizes Elena’s youth

it just sounds like an older dude preying on a high school student and then he accepts authoritative roles at the high school dances his love interest is being a teenage student at

and then parties/makes out with the guardians of the teenagers he’s hanging out with

THAT is weird and creepy because nothing about that is vampiric, in True Blood when Isabel talks about her human companion Hugo despite loving him, she does speak of him like he’s of a different species because he is 

she goes as far as saying it’s like a science experiment, which I can understand because they’re not human. 

So I don’t know, I don’t really have a strong stance for or against the argument, I’m just kind of like *shrugs* OK.

day three: favorite ship -> Stefan Salvatore & Caroline Forbes

I’m hard core stelena but I found it kinda weird when Elena says ‘Stefan would never hurt me’ I mean, he wouldn’t want to but he has? Just the fact that he’s a vampire with blood issues means yea it’s pretty inevitable? It’s similar to her saying Damon didn’t scare her, like yes he did.. why do the writers forget their own writing?

OK so once again, context? I find this comparison superficial at best.

When Damon scared Elena, he intended to scare her, he knew the effect he was having on her and in fact relished it

moreover when she postures like she isn’t afraid, he tells her she should be, it may be framed as banter but he’s asserting his power by reminding her that he could kill her any time he wants

in the same episode, he shows her that he’s physically dominant

which let’s just get this out of the way now, isn’t the same as 1x20 when Stefan tries to scare Elena into not helping him because he’s afraid of her getting too close and he’s trying to communicate the dangers of being around him so she can leave

and the writers just acted like those scenes never happened.

When Elena says Stefan would never hurt her, this is the context of the conversation:

Elena: Why did you bring me here?

Pastor Young: My deputies can watch out for us here. No vampires have been invited in. Look, Elena, I know it sounds crazy, but years ago it was your parents who were advocating having an emergency plan like this. I never thought we'd actually have to use it.

[Elena can hear the ticking noise of a clock and panics slightly.]

Pastor Young: Elena? Elena, you okay?

[Elena collects herself.]

Elena: Where's Stefan?

Pastor Young: Where he can't hurt you.

Elena : He would never hurt me. You have no idea what you're talking about.

It is so clear that she’s saying that Stefan would never intentionally hurt her -- when he has hurt her it’s been because of compulsion --- compulsion that he fought which should’ve been impossible but because Stefan would never hurt her he fought it for as long as he could

So I personally don’t find that line to be a misremembering of canon on the part of the writers but more like there’s been a misinterpretation of the text.
