Well, I drew baby Hunter and Arti, so here’s baby Inv and Saint from the au!

Like I’ve said, these siblings are total opposites, and they were even more different as kids. You guys seem to like Saint’s silly expressions, but when they were younger they didn’t express anything. They aren’t bored or annoyed with Inv in the picture, they just literally always looked like that. Inv on the other hand, can’t mask to save their life. They’ve always been very expressive, loud and hyper, in sharp contrast with their sibling who almost never spoke back then.

Unfortunately for Inv, the Iterator that created and raised these two definitely preferred Saint. Inv was too much of a handful, but Saint was the perfect kid in their opinion- basically just a statue. Inv isn’t as stupid as they can act sometimes, and they definitely knew that their younger sibling was the favourite. That wasn’t a great feeling for them.

Despite their differences, Saint and Inv are very close. Inv has always been able to tell what Saint is feeling regardless of what expression they have, and Saint has always been patient with Inv and has never really minded their antics.

It is an old Prince (Agaricus augustus) mushroom! Here are some more photos of this mushroom (all taken by me) in different stages of it’s life cycle!

The Prince mushroom is edible and widely sought after, and I personally can confirm that it tastes good! I’ve foraged and eaten them before, and I don’t regret it! (Just make sure to only eat them when they’re young, the photo in the middle was taken right before I ate those mushrooms, but I definitely wouldn’t eat the ones in the last photo!)

Prince mushrooms can be really big, with caps up to 30cm in diameter! They are found fruiting at the base of conifer trees (but never off the trees themselves) typically in clumps of around three or five. They tend to fruit during early or late summer, and surprisingly enough, have adapted to thrive in areas of human activity. The ones I found were actually in my backyard, which was pretty insane for such a highly prized mushroom! This is the third year in a row they’ve fruited at the base of one particular tree in my yard, so I suspect the mycelium system is in a mycorrhizal relationship with that tree! Works well for me, I get free mushrooms to eat! I’ve spore printed them, and they have dark brown spores and gills. They taste good sautéed with a bit of garlic butter, but I’ve also thrown them into pasta sauce which was pretty tasty!

I scrolled through your Tumblr for a bit to try and piece together bits about you so I could give you an accurate mushroom! You have a sister and dogs, and because you seem very social (on here at least), I want to chose a mushroom that fruits in groups and has a mycorrhizal relationship with trees. (When a tree and a fungi function and grow together symbiotically, like friends!) You have lots of different fandoms (whereas I only really have one lol) so maybe a mushroom that has many different uses, wether it be in cuisine, cultural significance, medicinal usage etc. Your art always has so much colour and character, so definitely a pretty mushroom!

The Rainbow Chanterelle is an edible choice mushroom that is widely sought-after and used in a variety of dishes! They are mycorrhizal with spruce trees, and fruit in clumps of several mushrooms. The Rainbow Chanterelle is described as having a fruity or apricot-y smell, and is bright yellowish-orange in colour, often with pinkish caps.
