"By The Sea" - THE TRIPTYCH PROJECT
Photos by: Jane Ta | Esra Eralp| Liz Grandmaison
Take three photographers. Direct each one to stand in the same square meter of space and photograph what they see. Chances are, you’ll get three very different images.
This phenomenon, if you will, is the idea behind THE TRIPTYCH PROJECT. Since we three are on different continents — Europe, North America, and Australia — we don’t have access to the same square meter of space. But we do have the interwebs! Each month (that’s the plan so far) we’ll be posting variations on our year-long theme: WATER.
Our joint venture was born of serendipity. When Liz posted a water-themed photoset on New Year’s Eve 2013, she declared “…if I had to choose only one subject to photograph for the rest of my life, I could choose water and never be bored.” Esra and Jane responded with similar enthusiasm about water and Liz suggested collaborating. Which brings us to today and our first triptych in the series. We hope you enjoy our unique perspectives.

Picking Up The Pieces
Picking up the pieces of my life The storm has passed me by My fragile world is still intact My fragile heart, asks why, Why it had to be. Our song is playing on the radio " A rainy night in Georgia " fills the air The heart rending lyrics cloud my eyes The haunting melody, engulfs me with despair, A lonely boat on a stormy sea. I walk the leafy lanes All around, the children playing Autumn leaves are softly falling The breeze, echoing the words that you were saying, You needed to be free. I sit alone in our empty home Watching the world from my window chair I smell your perfume all around I hear your voice, but you’re not here, You have spread your wings and are flying free. Ambrose Harte.
When I first read this poem, I got a little teary. It immediately made me think of MyMemorypalace’s photography. I did my best to copy some of her vibe.

"I would gaze, gauge and just like that, be gone-vane avion, flitting from earth to earth, unconscious of my awkard arm or wayward socks…."
-Patti Smith from "Woolgathering"
I am reading Woolgathering again. Beautiful.

I saw "In no Great Hurry: 13 Lessons in Life With Saul Leiter" last weekend. So good.
