🎞️About/General Info🎞️

A sixteen-year old highchool student, Amy Millihan moved back to her eerie childhood hometown - Vinethorn Grove - with her older brother after the death of their toxic grandmother left them with only debt, forcing them to leave the big city - where they'd lived for almost a decade - and go back to their long since abandoned roots. What she expected to be a calm clean slate for the two of them during the peaceful vacation period of the Harvest Break, swiftly takes a darker turn as an ancient curse and a string of mysterious murders/disappearances begins to unravel, revealing that, underneath the small town's apparently normal surface lie bloody, and paranormal, secrets. With the lives of her and everyone she cares about on the line, finding a way to thwart this ancient curse and defeat the Mayor's corrupt family traditions, may be their only chance to survive.

Pronouns - She/Her Age - Sixteen Appearance - Amy has long, wavy brown hair, which she usually keeps loose or - on rare occasions - tied into a ponytail or braid. She is average height, and usually favors pastel clothes with fun patterns, especially long sleeve shirts (the kind that the sleeve is a difference color/hue than the shirt's body) and light denim pants, and usually wears purple sneakers with star patches, being a big fun of space themed stuff. She usually rides a pastel yellow bike with a straw basket, and sometimes has her backpack on her to carry things she needs. Amy has a self defense baseball bat she takes with her when investigating or going places she deems unsafe.

Status: Alive Age: 15-16 Occupation: Student (currently on school break), Conspiracy Theory Enthusiast, Unnofficial Hipster Relationship: Good, is her former childhood friend who is reconnecting with Amy after she came back to town.

Status: Alive Age: 22 Occupation: Freelance Artist, Artisan/DIY-er, Former Wanderer, Aspiring Poet, works from home + works at a local craft store as well Relationship: Good, Chris is Dylan's first friend in town and later becomes his girlfriend, so she's like a sister-in-law to Amy and takes up the role of the "laid back/friendly older sister".

Prejudiced people who treat others as lesser just because they don't understand them. That also includes small-minded people, especially elders who think that anything that strays from 'tradition' is bad or not good enough.

Anyone who makes a big deal out of something simple that could easily be solved or explained otherwise without much of a fuss.

People who spread harmful or unwanted humors about others, especially if the intent is to discredit them.

Feeling unsafe or uncertain about a situation or about a certain outcome, worrying that something out of her control might go wrong.

People wasting money like its nothing - reminds her of Edith and not in a good way.

Amy despises Mrs Draycott with the strenght of a thousand suns and hopes that 50-year old creep rots in the hell she must've crawled out of 💀🔥

Another person Amy hates is Zach's stepfather (when she learns about the boy's past), and she has VERY GOOD REASONS to.

Which character do you think readers would love the most?

I think that vote would be stuck between Dylan, Zach or Christine. In all honesty, the whole cast of this WIP has a lot of different personalities that I did my best to make unique, so every MC character in this WIP would probably be someone's favorite once the book's out lol. But I think those three would absolutely be the at the Top 3:

Dylan Millihan:

Overall Description/Vibes: 23M, a reserved, emotionally unavailable mess of an young man who is trying his best and is probably more overworked than it would be healthy but pretends he's fine by using a social mask of bad mood and distance from strangers. Cares about his little sister immensely but generally doesn't know how to show it verbally so just shows it through quiet actions and hopes for the best.

Appearance: Tall, handsome, has medium to long hazel hair vaguely styled in a 80s-90s way, usually wears black button up shirts not buttoned up all the way and jeans. Prefers boots over sneakers.

Zach Taylors:

Overall Description/Vibes: 16M, an incredibly charismatically charming goth kid who likes freedom above everything and who has some serious self-esteem issues that he hides behind a facade of confidence. He's Amy Millihan's best friend and love interest as the story progresses. Zach loves music, skateboarding and reading books from his vast collection he stole from the library.

Appearance: Average height, skinny, usually wears improvised goth style clothes including a shirt with the logo from his favorite yet obscure band, dark grey jacket with DIY spikes and small chains, black fingerless gloves with ripped fishnetting, spike studded black converse sneakers + dark nail polish and eyeliner. Has short, yet messy dark brown hair.

Christine Nespor:

Overall Description/Vibes: 22F, a laid-back wanderer with a love for all things funny, from jokes to pranks to hilariously bad movies, but who is also really wise when it comes to life and gives top tier advice. Loves a good amount of harmless chaos and probably knows more than a few really strange unsolved cases that really contrast with her wholesome personality. She's also Dylan's first friend and later love interest in Vinethorn Grove.

Appearance: Average height, has wavy blonde hair cut into a simple yet stylish bob, wears cutesy yet simple makeup preferring to add a small splash of color to her styles. Loves woven sweaters, twill pants and patchwork shirts, especially DIY ones, and wears vintage sneakers. Has a playful smile.

Mayor Samuel Whitaker: Literal serial killer whose family is involved with bloody rituals with fey demons. Most of his victims are teens or kids because he "likes his souls young" (essentially the younger and more 'pure'/innocent the souls the more effective the sacrifices are)

Mrs. Adelaide Draycott: A 50 year old cougar/Karen who has nothing better to do in her life than to stalk Dylan (who is young enough to be her son at the very least) around to try to get him to 'fall in love with her'. When her attempts fail she fully becomes a Karen and decides to sabotage his entire life.

Sheriff Isaac Clarke: A corrupt, racist cop who thrives on nepotism and blackmail, often using underhanded tactics to get what he wants. Aids criminals if it means getting more power and literally 'calls the shots' in town. Also covers up the Mayor's string of murders and makes sure no investigations suceed.

Branden Heddam: Insanely threatening - probably drunk - biker gang leader who terrorizes innocent people and specially likes making his stepson's (Zach) life a living hell. The most abusive """"""parent"""""" figure known to mankind and has committed murders before due to his sheer brutality.

Cathleen "Cath" Edwards: The most annoying debt collector known to mankind who literally shows up unnanounced at the worst times and is so smug she could make Regina George cringe.

If Stranger Things, The Black Phone and Heathers had a love-child and it was a midwest gothic urban fantasy horror mystery story set in a fictional version of North America.

A bunch of teenagers in weird af small town in the middle of the woods find out that there's something intrinsically wrong with the place and its more than just gossipy neighbours, its that the town is cursed by fey demons and the forests haunted by the spirits of teens the Mayor's family killed.

Secrets, rumors, a town of people essentially brainwashed to love the villain and oppose anyone who stands in his/his family's way VS a ragtag team of teenagers who fucked around and found out way too much.

Homey autumn vibes: red, yellow and amber leaves in a pine wood forest, cozy old diners owned by kooky old ladies, afternoons playing shoot em' ups at the local arcade, car rides with the MCs grumpy older brother, listening to music on the roof of the house eating popcorn and studying conspiracy theories, running from trouble as the sun sets in the horizon, cozy hot chocolate mugs, etc.

Tragic ghosts with interesting stories and unique personalities that make you want to give them a hug, and who need one so bad but can't get one because they're immaterial😭

POV: The Slasher Horror movie villain is your town's adored Mayor and his cohorts.

The woods are alive, more than you think - but they're filled with what's left of the dead.

Special Attack - Just Fucking Topple 'Em (If he needs to, he'll just run straight into any group of enemies with his skateboard, so he topples them to the ground along with him)

Weaknesses - Traumatic triggers that lead him to spiral into a panic attack + Low Esteem (vulnerable to psychological attacks that could potentially leave him wondering whether or not he is worthwhile or if his friends truly care about him)

Idle Animation - Standing on his customized purple and black skateboard, with his cheap headphones he stole from the dollar store on and drinking a vanilla ice cream milkshake. He occasionally gives the camera a mischievous smirk.

Idle Animation - He's leaning against his Chevy, arms crossed over his chest, a scowl on his face. He occasionally checks his phone for the time, and may glare into the camera with an "what are you looking at, loser?" stare, before looking away with a sigh. He seems impatient.

Special Attack - "Did You See That? Oops." (Distracts the enemy with a comment about something they should look at, or generally makes them look away. The second they do he takes them by surprise and makes them trip down to the floor, then goes "Oh buddy, you okay?" before unleashing a barrage of cutting quips and calculated verbal burns, Vicious Mockery style.)

Weaknesses: Worrying if he is good enough/Impostor's Syndrome + Has a tendency to panic if someone makes him think he won't find his missing cousin in time.

Idle Animation: He's walking with a carefree smile on his face, talking friendily to people around him. At one point he adjusts his football team jacket, smiles at the camera and does a "I tip my hat to you" gesture, like a cowboy, despite not wearing a hat.

Special Attack - "Flip and Spray!" (Wildly sprays the enemy's face with her pepper spray, aiming for the eyes, before flipping them off and attempting to kick their legs from under them. If sucessful the enemy remains blinded and prone for the next 4 turns, but even if not, they stay blinded for a turn and their movement speed reduced by half)

Weaknesses - Abandonement issues and people threatening her freedom or her friend's freedom

Idle Animation - She's sitting somewhere and drawing on her sketchbook with intense focus, which she only breaks to take a quick swig of her coffee and keep drawing. Eventually she looks up from the book and happily watches a yellow butterfly passing by, before noticing the camera and waving in its direction with an excitable smile.

Zach Taylors & Amy Millihan

Holding hands, hugs, quick kisses, cute little handshakes and stuff, they love that, they really, really do. HOWEVER. Neither of them like when people get too into Public Displays of Affection - like when they see those couples that full-on french kiss in a public square or get too handsy with each other, it gives them The Ick, and they so hate that.

Dylan Millihan & Christine Nespor

It depends. Dylan's generally really reserved (a very grumpy version of being shy, like "what the fuck you looking at?" when strangers stare or something), and isn't a really touchy-feely person, he doesn't deal with too much touch well. He's more the kind to show his love through quiet actions or begrudging reminders for the other to take care of themselves. Christine is a very hyper extrovert that tends to go all in into relationships, and is very much a hugger and cuddler, but she's very respectful of boundaries. As they interact, Dylan's slowly starting to like hugs - but not too much, and not all the time - and Christine is learning alternative ways to show affection other than physical touch.

Liam Steele & Savvanah Hahn

HECK YEAH, they're into it. They're generally very "loud" with things that they do - in the sense they have a very strong presence that ends up getting all the attention when they're around - and that includes their relationship. They're rarely seen without the other, and they usually walk either holding hands or with their arms around each other's waist. They kiss, lean into each other while playing at an arcade machine, they cuddle, they blast their favorite love songs as loud as possible when in Liam's car. Like "HECK YEAH WE LOVE EACH OTHER, WHAT OF IT? (:". Some people are too quick to judge and think they're too "clingy" to each other but Liam and Savvy are just generally best friends who adore each other's presence - they're The Power Couple of this book.

Erin Niemand & Indigo "Indie" Lauriel

Nope. Erin's a very introverted loner who, for the longest time in her life, didn't have many friends and/or proper social skills. Indie's an extrovert, but she's a more layback kind of extrovert who just generally does her thing and enjoys life. Neither of them are very much into physical touch BUT they do have a secret handshake that only each other knows later on in the story. They do like cuddling while watching movies, but never in public - being too romantic-y in public just feels awkward for them both.

Conner Watsen & Maeve Fernandez

They don't mind it - they'll kiss in public, hug, just generally sit close to each other, give eachother piggyback rides, etc. Both of them just generally mind their own business and live their own lives no matter what others think, but much like Zach & Amy they don't like when people get too into it in public like, "okay, it's wonderful y'all love eachother but goodness that's a bit...intense". It just feels uncomfortable, but they generally just quickly acknowledge it and then carry on like they'd never seen anything amiss.

what is one comfort meal that'll change your whole mood for the day?

Dylan: Eh. It takes a lot to change my mood for the better after a bad day if I can be brutally honest. I guess some pizza is always nice - might not change my whole mood for the better but it's my favorite food so, whatever. I'd take it over anything else.

Liam: Why do you ask? (he grumbles, eyes narrowed, before begrudgingly answering) Okay, fine. I like shepherd's pie, with as much cheese as possible. Uncle Nick is a pretty good cook, all things considered, and he makes some pretty good pies. I also love the cookies, especially the chocolate chip ones me and Savvy buy in the arcade, they're crunchy.

Christine: Oh! Oh, that's a good one! I love Mac & Cheese, but not the icky takeout ones that are always chewy like gum, or the store-bought ones that taste like plastic. I'm talkin' about the homemade ones! With that sweet, melty cheese goodness with some bacon sprinkled on top. That's the one. I also love me a good coffee - can't start the day without one, but don't come to me with that iced coffee BS, I like mine pipin' hot. Like so hot it feels like it was sourced straight from the earth's core or the depths of hell's fiery abyss. Yeah. Am I weird? (laughs)

what is an experience (good or bad) that has turned you off or on to a food completely?

Dylan: Y'know, I used to love those honeycomb toffee candies, the crispy ones and all. But then during a festival, Mrs. Draycott came up to me and was like (imitates the annoying 50-year-old 'female cougar' voice) "Oh my. Sweetheart, you're looking as SCRUMPTIOUS as a honeycomb fresh from the oven, aren't you?"

And I. wanted. to. die. Like not really but (mock gags in disgust) c'mon! What kind of fucked up, 'Karen' pick-up line is that? And, better yet, who even has the time to come up with shit like that? (sighs, wearily pinching the bridge of his nose) I might need a restraining order at this point, it's giving horror movie vibes. I can't have honeycombs anymore, thanks, Mrs. Draycott. Yay.

Liam: Okay, so when I was like 7 or something, my Uncle was having this garden party with his friends, I think, and they were having sushi. Thing is, 7-year-old me didn't know what sushi was, and me being a dumb little shit thought, wholeheartedly, it was candy. Like bonbons. For some odd reason! Cue me, who had been running around the yard all day, swooping into the patio table, picking one of the sushis, running off, and eating it whole before anyone could explain otherwise. I was expecting coconut candy covered in chocolate, or something sweet. What I got... was raw fish and rice. Long story short I ended up throwing up in the garden and I could never have sushi again after that. I tried once! I swear I tried! And it's okay that people like it. But even now the texture just feels...too slimy and it gives me the ick. Nuh-uh.

Christine: I think the time I ate a hot dog at an admittedly very shady establishment - looking back with hindsight - on the side of the road one time while traveling and got salmonella. Yeah, that hotdog was not a good idea on my part (chuckles). Spent the following week almost getting my soul exorcised from my body in the bathroom, in a metaphoric sense, if ya know what I mean. Now I can't even think about eating a hot dog again. It's a nah for me, bro.

if you could eliminate one piece of produce, meat, dairy or sweets off the earth what would it be?

(I'm not sure about this one but I think all three of them would answer onions, garlic, or stinky foods because those are disgusting and should be banned from the menu lmao)

and dessert is normally saved for last, but if you could what would you order for your entree at a restaurant?

Dylan: I guess, uh. I don't know, vanilla ice cream? I know you're gonna call me 'basic' for that, but I don't care. Vanilla is the best ice cream flavor out there and this is the hill I'll die on.

Liam: Hm. The chocolate chip cookies from the arcade. Gosh, those are just amazing. I could eat a whole packet! Or two, even!

Christine: Churros! The cinnamon and sugar ones with coffee sweet cream filling. That's heaven right there for me, yeah.

what are some food fusions that should never be mixed?

Dylan: Don't you ever mix savory, fried, spicy potato chips with marshmallows or melted ice cream or... god forbid, chocolate! That should be a sin or at least some sort of infraction because holy fuck.

Liam: If I see anyone else putting freaking pineapple or worse, watermelon on pizza I swear I will have a nervous breakdown and turn into a slasher movie villain. Not quite really, but keep FRUITS AWAY FROM MY PIZZA!

Christine: I'm probably gonna get hated on for this one. But avocados on a salty toast with eggs and pepper are a hate crime against humanity and I can't stand people who think that's a reasonable breakfast.

what food spot are you gatekeeping and why?

Dylan: My dude. I'm broke. I barely go out to eat in restaurants. I mostly eat at home or order cheap takeout pizza or something. And even if I wasn't broke, I just don't like eating around people whom I don't know in general, and I don't feel much at ease at restaurants unless I am in a really good mood.

Liam: I like 'Nana's Witchy Speakeasy'. The name might be odd or off-putting but it's just a nice little diner owned by this kooky old lady named Betty, who's one of the funniest people I know to be honest. Me and my friends love going there for a snack at the end of the day, the place's great.

Christine: Not sure, but there's this one milkshake place that sells the most wonderful chocolate frappes on earth. It's a bit far from my place but gosh it's so worth it.

cooking is a life skill, why haven't you started learning yet!?

Dylan:...Why haven't I learned it? I already have. I know how to cook. And quite well at that, though not perfectly - I'm my sister's legal guardian, do you think I would be able to manage having a moody teenager in my house all the time if I didn't know how to cook? No. I just don't usually have the time and patience for it, so I end up ordering takeout, but I always make us homemade breakfast.

Liam: 'Cause the last time I tried it I almost ended up setting the kitchen on fire, carbonized one of our best skillets, and was banned from the kitchen for a year (laughs). And cause I don't have the patience to learn, and already have other people in my life who cook really well.

Christine: Hey!!!! I know how to cook. Really, really well at that. I hate industrialized food and don't really crave fast food, but I love myself some good homemade food. I cook for myself every day, it's almost like a meditation for me - it makes me happy and calm, and at the end I get to eat something delicious. It's great!

Is there a smell that reminds you of something you never want to remember?

Dylan: Not really, I'm not easily shaken by smells unless it's something really, really freaking strong or pungent, or if its those perfumes that give me a headache cause I'm allergic.

Liam: My friends and I were exploring the woods to try and find out why the place's cursed and what happened to the ghosts trapped inside, but then we stumbled across some...remains? I guess it was the remains of someone who was killed and eaten by the Mayor's ghouls, and the smell of rotten flesh felt like it was stuck to my nostrils for a week. I hated that. I so hated that.

Christine: I'm not sure. I guess not emotionally, but I do hate the smell of salads and especially vinegar-based salad dressings. It makes me wanna puke - and the thing is it's not for any particular reason. It's not a trauma or anything. I just hate the smell, it's foul.

Hmm. That's a very tough question to answer, mostly because it depends on which WIP I'm most hyperfocused on at any given moment in time. I usually pour all of my focus onto like, 3 specific WIPs per time until I finish either: 1. outlining, 2. plotting, 3. drafting lmao. Right now, the WIPs I'm having the most fun writing are What Lurks In The Hollow (urban fantasy/horror mystery/coming of age), Scrapyard Boys (superhero/dystopia), and Supernova Initiative (space opera/heist/whump)! Those are my Main 3 rn lmao, mostly cause I'm absolutely obsessed with the characters and storylines of that WIP and I cannot wait until I have those three drafts finished!

I'm also pretty excited about my post-apocalypse WIP, Plague of Tomorrow, which I'm planning to turn into a videogame.
