You know what I want to see? A tv series/anime character who loves food and is shown eating on-screen several times during season 1 and when season 2 rolls around and every mc gets a little visual revamp they're shown a little pudgier. Perhaps they're even softer than that by season 3.

And it's never mentioned or joked about. The only joke allowed is "aw, hugging you is like hugging a teddy bear" said with a very content tone.

Also they have personality aside from food. And are actually important to the team/the main character.

I want to make Nora plus sized, because she's meant to be Thor and have a huge appetite. But I'm hesitant, because I don't want to make her seem like a fat joke, any tips on how to balance that? I mean, other than the obvious have other plus sized characters, but that doesn't change the issue of having the fat character within the core teams as the one who loves pancakes, ya know?

no that's completely understandable, especially considering how the mcu treated thor's weight gain as a "morality flaw" & that he'd "let himself go" instead of dealing with the underlying depression & trauma.

the fact that you're self aware of the harmful tropes that can follow is good! honestly nora is varied & nuanced enough as a character in theory that her being plus sized shouldn't come off as a stereotype or like it's "troping" her: & you're aware of tying her appetite to being a "fat joke" as harmful.

there would be a basis behind nora being plus sized anyways due to her food insecurity because of her history of homelessness & lack of food: humanizing that trait & not making it a joke at her expense but rather just an endearing trait avoids this issue i think. kind of like choji / chocho from naruto!
