But then I also think about how his name also means Beetle(( kabutomushi (かぶとむし, also written 甲虫 or かぶと虫)) ... So he is a beetle boy... 😔

And omg also in my language (Urdu) we've also got pigeons (Kabooter or کبوتر ) WHICH DOES SOUND VERY SIMILAR TO HIS NAME.

So he is a pigeon, a beetle, a helmet and a plant.

There should be like a trans name lost and found. For people who loved their deadnames or even just had a strong attachment to them to say - here! this name gave me warmth and is well loved, it might not fit me anymore but I want someone else to have it and know that it was given to them with love. My mother gave me this name because she loved me and I can't bear to throw it away, I want it to go to someone who will love it, and I want them to know that someone has been saying their name with love in their voice since long before it came into their possession

I saw some great pigeons the other day

about this little debate: it actually bothered me for a while that i couldn't make up my mind if Powder could be a deadname or not. i went as far as writing a pros and cons list and making my friend talk it through with me. and we went back and forth for a little while and then they just turn to me and say "yeah but Vi never calls Jinx "Powder" with any bad intentions, its the opposite" and i just. lost my shit. that's what i couldn't put my finger on. because, yes, Jinx chooses this name in the final dinner scene and that should be enough to make Powder a deadname but the intention is truly the kicker for me

maybe this is gonna sound ignorant but when people have deadnamed me it was usually not in ill-intent. they just slipped up. sure, it still hurt, but it's not something they would do intentionally.

the thing with Jinx and that's why this is such a delicate debate imo, it's how and why she chose this name. i discuss that in the last post before this one and i think that's where it's important to differentiate between her situation of choosing a new name and specifically the name "Jinx" and a trans person choosing a new name. "Jinx" comes with a helluva lot of emotional baggage. in a way the act of claiming "Jinx" not only as a name but as her new persona is not an act of perseverence and revolution, it's an act of capitulation. she gives up. she yields to fate and accepts that this is just who she is determined to be. a jinx.

and that's why Vi continuing to call her Powder doesn't feel like deadnaming to me. obvs this is an issue closely related to a person's individual experience and im not trying to claim any truth to this statement, this is just my opinion.
