Riza, Falman and Breda have created their own book club. Every two weeks they meet during lunch to discuss the book they had previously agreed to read, and decide on the next one, out of a list of Sheska’s recommendations.

Remember that Callum canonically has a photographic memory.

This is not only just cool, in that I don’t think I’ve seen a character with a photographic memory since The 39 Clues, but integral to his character and development.

The beautiful thing about The Dragon Prince’s magic system is that is directly ties into Callum’s artistic gifts and connects these interests. They also actively show how Callum’s photographic memory helps him with magic.

If it weren’t for his photographic memory, Callum would have never been able to draw this rune after seeing Claudia do it once.

For a character who is insecure about his abilities and worth, it is absolutely an important part of him and his magic journey.

It’s a blessing and a curse. He perfectly remembers his mother’s face, and can capture the image of those he loves even when they’re not there.

After barely two weeks Callum was able to draw Rayla this well without her there as a reference.

But he also perfectly remembers bad memories and traumas, too. In fact, I would not be surprised if his photographic memory is somewhat tied to his panic attacks as well. These memories— vivid and perfect— become all encompassing and inescapable, rather than fading to a vague blur of emotion over time. Mind you, trauma can do this to anyone, but this condition/ ability likely makes it more difficult for him.

It is absolutely an integral part of Callum, and directly related to his gifts in art and magic. Callum’s photographic memory is not just a cool character feature— it helped him find confidence and feel accomplished in his interests.

Imagine Naruto being surprisingly good at poetry.

He writes something to Sasuke one day and he’s a little shocked, the messy writing is definitely his, but the words are so tender and gentle, he can almost hear that raspy, sweet voice like Naruto was right beside him, whispering these soft and loving words to him.

It makes Sasuke’s heart melt.

“I LOVE BOOKS!”

This is why I stan Callum, okay?

What I'm hearing is that between Shery, Trouble, and potentially Chase, there needs to be a Shepherds book club.

There actually is a small book club consisting of Shery, Riel, Lavinet, and occasionally Red—I don’t think Chase would be allowed in due to the Chaos he brings and Trouble would only be interested in reading pulpy adventure novels about airships and improbable, rogueish heroes who sweep people off of their feet while the others are like reading Edwardian romances or like heartfelt memoirs by prominent figures of celebrity lol

sometimes i forget how reading is just. marvelous. just an absolutely fucking endlessly joyful activity. i’ll go about my life and not read one single book for months and be like why am i morose! why am i so apathetic! what is missing here!!!! and try to look for whatever it is that is lacking and never find it anywhere and i get so tired and sad and angry, and then i’m finally like i’m gonna stop everything for a couple days and read a really good book bc i don’t care about anything else. and suddenly i get motivated to work bc i know i’ll read when i’m on break. i get more creative. i want to watercolor again and bust out the shameful fabric stash with all my unfinished sewing projects. god even my dreams get more vivid!! what the fuck! and i’m like here is the magic i was looking for, why did i ever think i was going to find it anywhere else. it was always here!!!
