A Dark Alternative: Chapter 5
Summary: In a world where the border between Xadia and the human lands never truly existed, humans and elves live along side each other, but not together. Years ago, Callum made an unlikely friend, one he thought long lost to time. By chance, their paths cross again, but considering how much they’ve both changed, is it possible to rekindle their friendship? Or have their differences become too much to overcome?

Rayla snorted, smiling a little. “Any secret tunnels or dungeons?” She narrowed her eyes playfully at him, actually seeming interested in the topic.
Callum perked up a little, smiling himself. The Rayla he remembered from his childhood was peeking out from behind the cold veneer of before. “There are actually.” Rayla’s eyebrows raised in apparent surprise and so he continued. “Well, secret passages anyway. I’m not sure about dungeons, but maybe?”
“You haven’t looked?” She sounded unimpressed, a disbelieving frown on her face.
“Well, secret dungeons are usually secret for a reason,” he explained. “And it’s not like I’d go sneaking around specifically looking for one. What use would I even have for a dungeon?”
“I don’t know. I haven’t seen you in fifteen odd years.” She smirked, blushing a little as she briefly looked back at where she was still scratching at the table. “Maybe you’re into whips and chains now.”

What if Rayla would have joined the Dragon Guard, just like her parents? In another timeline perhaps? What would Callum think when he first sees her?

For me, this was the most heartbreaking moment of S6... Rayla had to say goodbye to her parents when she was only 6 years old, she though they died, then got back hope years later, only for a few weeks... just to have to face the decision to let them pass on and loosing them again, but this time for forever...
They never saw her growing up, they will never meet Callum, they will never see their children, they will never see the new world they to helped create.
And if this not enough... Unless Ethari meets Runaan outside of their home, she will not see their happy faces when they meet again, because she is... Ghosted.
She can not be part of the family she saved and made whole again because she can't return home...
My heart is broken. 💔

✨ High Mage Callum ✨
I brought a little wip for you today. :)
This is actually part of a big project I am working on lately, and if it succeeds, then I will have lots of surpises for you all ~
This time it's a frame design... which has a certain purpose, but I will share that with you later ;)
I will be away for a few days visiting my favorite medieval Fantasy Fair over the weekend, so I hope you enjoy this picture until I am back ~
On this early concept art Rayla had green eyes. Even though her later design got changed, I really hope that one day in the future, when Rayla and Callum have children, they will have a daughter who looks like her, because I really love the style of this early concept (maybe the 4 horns not so much, but pretty much everything else looks so cool - and the green eyes and white hair just fits ;)

holy FUCKKKKK
hedging a major bet for tdp's future seasons:
callum will use dark magic again.
now, there's some part of me that's only saying this because i want it to happen. i'm a major callum person, but me being a fan of a character means i want said character to suffer as much as possible before their happy ending. however, i do think that not only would such an event be interesting, it also would explain some stuff we've been getting as of s5 and s6.
though there's some things in s4 that contribute to this theory, s5's final episodes specifically take us back to dark magic as it relates to callum. he's assumed to be a dark mage, admits to thinking about and studying it (which, though that doesn't really mean much as studying is really just studying, is still something to point out), is pressured into doing a dark magic spell, actually DOES a dark magic spell.. there's a lot. i'd say that final point points out callum's fatal flaw fantastically: excessive personal loyalty. (do you hear that? all pjo fans collectively screamed.) to save a friend, callum would sacrifice himself, or a greater cause.
this ties well into the next season. in s6, in return for callum promising to choose the greater good's safety over rayla's (there's that theme of personal loyalty again), rayla finally promises that if callum is possessed by aaravos again, she'll kill him. this is immediately followed by the audience being informed that using dark magic gives aaravos a way to posses you, which is THEN followed up by callum being warned that if he uses it again after the cleansing thing, "the darkness and corruption will overwhelm you." idk, but the whole thing to me seems like it's setting up a lot of potential for callum to use dark magic in the future, only to fall victim to both this aforementioned corruption and aaravos.
in summary, i think it's quite likely callum will use dark magic again to save someone he loves, losing himself in the process. i do personally hope for ezran, solely because i like testing the limits of brotherly love and consider their dynamic to have been somewhat neglected as of late, but rayla would make the most sense given what's been shown so far. "oh no!" you cry out at this theory. or maybe you hate him and you cheer, idk. but do not fret (or do not celebrate for you haters /lh). if this route is taken, there's three things i can see happening:
"you broke your promise, i'll break mine." rayla ignores what she said, saving callum over killing him. would probably be yet another l/i reaches out to m/c whilst they're being possessed "yada yada yada i love you this isn't you blah blah blah." though it is something of a tired concept at this point, it would still be fun to see.
the extra quasar diamond. c'mon, they wouldn't leave one free one out there for no reason, we know this. rayla keeps her promise and kills him, but callum is revived.
some combination of both.
i also have related hopes for claudia, but i think i've said what i need to. anyone agree with me?
