What kind of name would you like for the event ?

Since a few people have requested a writing challenge involving poetry, what month would you like that to be in?

A poetry challenge would probably constitute writing one poem a day, since there's so many format and style options for poetry it would be difficult to make it based on word or page count, since poems can convey an extremely broad range of emotions based on formatting alone...

I've received this question a few times now, so I wanted to emphasize again:

your goal for your writing in November should *not* be to have your final product on November 30th be a perfect, polished, ready-to-publish Novel™ that's ready to win awards and accolades--

Your goal for November 30th is to have 30,000 words of a First Draft of your Novella/Novel/Short Story Collection be completed.

A First Draft is just step *one* of the writing process, which is why I'm trying to help organize editing events in January/February to help writers find Beta Readers, localization language help, etc!

No matter how good an author is, the first draft of a novel is rarely what hits the shelves as the final product-- and when it IS the first draft, you can definitely tell as a reader, even if you're not yet on a technical level that you can't quite put your finger on why something seems off.

Your goal for November is not perfection, your goal for November is to write, whatever and as much as you can; quality comes in later in the editing stages :)

hi!!! to your knowledge has anyone started a discord server for novella november? i know theres no official one but id LOVE a group to work with! ^_^

Not that I know of so far! But a server is surprisingly easy to make if you already know how Discord works, so feel free to create your own and invite some friends!

Or, if anyone wants to make discords based on locality, language, genre, etc, feel free!

This blog will always be open to answering questions, sharing resources, tips, etc, so don't be afraid to send an ask, just know it might take me a day or so to answer!

As we get closer to November and also October, I'd be more than happy to create posts each week where people can post in the Replies to have discussions on the topic; as of earlier today I think it was, Tumblr rolled out an update vastly increasing the character-limit of replies, so with that plus the Reply button now making actual threads, it will be much easier to have a kind of forum-like discussion on tumblr without huge reblog-chains !

If there's anything in particular you are looking for help with, feel free to ask! And don't forget, there's free options like the Ohwrite room I created that anyone who wants a "writing buddy" (or two. Or dozen) can use to write while tracking other people's progress as fun motivation!
