Almost.. π

...

You did it! π₯³
hello! i am so stunned by your bobbin lace making, ive been dreaming of getting into bobbin lace but figured i wouldnt be able to unless i got my hands on actual bobbins.
but you've made such beautiful work with pencils!! how much difference do you think the pencils made? are they difficult to work with? would it be a bad idea for me to run out and get my own bobbin pencil pack?
hey hey! thanks so much :):)
I say go for it haha π
I think there is for sure a difference to working with actual bobbins. The pencils are much bigger than bobbins and can get in the way of each other when you are working with them. And that would make bigger projects much harder to manage as well (I've used up to 12 pairs so far). I've wondered if maybe I'm picking up any bad techniques and habits because of their size and shape but I don't know for sure. Another thing is that since the tops are not notched (not sure if that's the actual word for it), the thread sometimes comes off and unravels and its very annoying which I think would happen less with actual bobbins. I've still only used the pencils so far, so there might be other differences that others might be able to note, but these are the biggest ones I've seen so far!
Overall though it has been a good enough solution for me to get started learning so maybe it would work for you too!!!
(also I made the terrible mistake of buying pre-sharpened pencils because I didn't notice so half of my pencils are sharp and that is so annoying but I refuse to buy more right now π, so keep an eye out for that maybe if you end up getting some)
Bobbin lace basics for absolute beginners
this is so cool! she uses yarn (wool) so that itβs big enough to see and simple enough to follow along.
what a fucking awesome invention lace working is :D
