Emergency: Help Evacuate My Family From GAZA WAR
Dear Humanity

My name is Fadi( 26 years old). I lived all my life in Gaza with my family.

We have been exposed to all types of danger in the ongoing war and we escaped death more than once. Our neighbourhood was under brutal airstrikes and we miraculously survived when our home was completely destroyed.
We are a family of seven people, who have survived death three times and we have been displaced from northern Gaza to several places in the southern Gaza Strip.
My family and I were forced to flee to Deir al-Balah and then to Khan Yunis, but there was heavy bombing in Khan Yunis. We were forced to go to Rafah, and when the situation in Rafah intensified, we went to Deir al-Balah. We are currently in a makeshift tent in Deir el-Balah in central Gaza Strip. The nylon tent is too small, hot in the morning and cold at night. Insects are of kinds we've never seen before. Water is really scarce and hard to get. No future to think of, only depression.
I graduated in 2022 from the College of Business Administration and I had my own company in the Watan Tower, but the tower was completely destroyed and everything was gone! I lost my job.

I was building my house, stone by stone, putting all my money into it so that it would be like what I imagined. After a lot of trouble and effort, the house went and took my dreams with it. The occupation bulldozed it. There are no more dreams!

Please help me and my family to evacuate Gaza and complete a beautiful, peaceful life free of destruction and save us from the ongoing war in Gaza.
With generous donation and help we can do it together!!!!

like my ideal job is honestly i own an extremely shitty bookstore and cafe and you cant order anything from a menu except cold brew coffee (when we run out, we run out) or you can ask me (i am standing behind the counter) for a drink and i will make you a weird espresso concoction based on what i feel like making and it will always cost a flat 5 dollars (i know, coffee should cost less, but here we are. sometimes the drink will be a scoop of vanilla gelato with an espresso shot poured over. sometimes it will be a coffee seltzer. it will probably just be a regular latte most of the time with sprinkles on top), but sometimes i hand you a grilled cheese sandwich or maybe a novella i like instead. we're only open for three hours between 4-7 in the afternoon btw.
fiber crafts is like oh you think you know how to count? think again. also count again.

Mini Book Patterns // Living On The Rainbow

2 thread cross stitch on 18ct aida
I bought a quarterly needlepoint magazine from 1991 today for $1 at an op shop, and thereās a four page spread about a woman who completely faithfully remakes samplers from the 1600s and the part that blows me away is that she was keeping women in history alive.
The original sampler maker was a teenaged girl called Loara sheās the only one known of seven siblings in that family. She was born approximately 1632 and had passed before her father had in 1656 which they know because it was mentioned in his will.
So in the 1630-40s a girl made a sampler, in 1991 a woman had put in years of research before recreating the sampler as Loara had 350 years earlier , and Iām reading about it in 2024.
Embroidery keeps women alive in history, and itās part of why I love samplers so much.
Hereās a quote from samplers that I think about often:

Look at this gorgeous fabric.
Making a very simple dress based on chitons. So little sewing, so little waste, and yet so comfortable.
These pictures were taken before I finished the side-seams. The ābeltā in the two bottom pictures is just a matching strip of fabric. Probably Iām going to sew it so that it can be worn in different ways. Either loose & flowy for at-home days, or tied & dressed up for when I want to look more put-together.

If you're lamenting the fact that you used to be able to shoot through a 500-page novel in like a day when you were in middle school and now you can't, it's worth bearing in mind that a big part of that is because when you were in middle school, your reading comprehension sucked. Yes, mental health and the stresses of adult life can definitely be factors, but it's also the case that reading is typically more effortful as an adult because you've learned to Ponder The Implications. The material isn't just skimming over the surface of your brain anymore, and some of the spoons you used to spend on maximising your daily page count are now spent on actually thinking about what you're reading!

Not Tolkien related, but I'm actually lowkey proud of how this self portrait embroidery is going 𤩠Ignore the eyes being proportionally and directionally "off" lol, and the too-long nose/anatomical mistakes. I'm more focusing on learning "thread painting" techniques than exact and accurate anatomy representation (or at least, that's my excuse š )
Also I chose to do a self portrait bc at the time of needing a reference photo to practice embroidered portraits, I have, in fact, the face most readily available to me lol

Another little guy you say?? For sure!
I also was looking at some photos and realized I could do the yellow rubber soles on the turnout boots so I went back and added them on Buck and Hen. I think I like it!
Chimney nextttt
Edit: WAIT

I forgot Bobby's little radio :)

Tri-coloured scarf woven on a rigid heddle loom from yarn I spun myself. This took around three weeks of work start to finish, and I couldnāt be happier with the result :-)
beeās summer of stitching
ahoy! thank you for bearing with while iāve been quiet here! iāve been pretty busy. iāve been using my stitching to unwind and calm down, and iāve got through a bunch of work in the summer. hereās a rundown for your reading pleasure:

the only way to begin is by beginning | stitched by me on 18 ct | i LOVE gamechanger and i loved stitching this one!

ceasefire now! | stitched by me on 14 or 16 ct | good to spend time doing at the encampment. this pattern, as well as the other free palestine patterns, are freely available with an option to donate but honestly just donate to a gofundme

i've had ENOUGH aroace pattern | stitched by me on 18 ct | this took about a month to stitch and was really simple once the outline was done! this will look really cute on the wall near my aroace flag !

devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes | stitched by me on 18 ct | the pinks looked brighter than the pattern but i loved it! iāve spend this summer working on my thesis so iāve been drawn to simple designs and this was perfect. i also backstitched the font and border to make the project last longer (so i didnāt get hyperfixated on a new pattern)

the children yearn for the mines | stitched be me on 14(?) ct | i started this one earlier this year, but finished it this summer. got super close to the edge there but iāve stolen @jennystudyās technique of putting masking tape on the edges to prevent fraying, so it was all good!

take me back to the coconut tree | stitched by Pax on 18 ct | Pax is my flatmate and i got it into cross stitch over the summer. when i asked them for a review of the stitch, it said, āum⦠it was pretty fun. except for the bit where i didnāt have one colour because we went all the way to the craft store and i didnāt write it down so i didnāt get it. it was a good stitch.ā

we all got a little barbie in us | stitched by me on 18 ct | like minecraft, i started this one a while ago (edit: a whole year! holy shit!) and came back to it later in the summer. this one is Lorge holy shit i did not expect it to be so big!
last, but not least:

under all conditions, i will persevere | stitched by me on 14 ct (grey) | i literally started this three days ago when the draft was already in my folder but i got through it q u i c k l y so i added it! this one is so cute, iāve been wanting to stitch it since i designed it but never *quite* got round to it. this pattern is very special to me because of the damned stubbornness of dandelions and because they signal the end of winter, which is my least favourite season. i just love them
thus concludes the season of stitching i hope u enjoyed my silly little recap !!

Finished!
In total, 80.6hrs of stitching!
First time attempting the backstitching over cross stitch. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

I finally started fixing my pants š±šæš± kinda proud of these little leaves ngl :)
Happy Sapphic September! Here are some sapphic ebooks that, at the time of making this video, are all available to be checked out right now! You better be quick, though!Ā
