I think HomuSaya is highly underrated. It’s funny that Sayaka and Homura share a lot of similar traits to each other, but the way they conduct themselves leads to vastly different results. Homura initially has such a calm and all-knowing air to her, but the moments where she has her freak outs is very reminiscent of Sayaka’s behaviour. I remember being floored by that one scene in Rebellion where Homura was enraged over the incubators trying to pry the secrets of the Law of Cycles.

Although Sayaka has a deep rooted suspicion and dislike of Homura, in other media [like the Portable], it shows that Sayaka is self-aware of how ‘unreasonable’ her attitude is, even apologising to Homura because she regretted being overly stubborn to see her as anything past that.

I also like that it can be viewed as enemies to lovers now since Sayaka’s very normal sense of moral neuroticism makes her immediately disrespect Miss Devil, even though Homura herself was so obsessed with protecting the quintet and Madoka [in a way, it’s her way of loving all of them by perpetuating the illusory paradise, the tranquility that was robbed from them] that she willingly bears the consequences and ensuing loneliness of her actions. She refuses to explain such things to Sayaka, partly because she knows the mermaid will continue to view her negatively, and that really does not change anything. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
