Turn Up Trumps | Office!Seokjin

Summary line: Christmas prompt #1 - Character A and Character B, sworn enemies, are chosen to prepare the company Christmas party.

Namjoon | Seokjin | Yoongi | Hoseok | Jimin | Taehyung | Jungkook

~

“It’s an absolute nightmare!” You protest over the phone to your friend.

Namjoon chuckles at you, “You can always say no, you know?”

“No, I can’t.” You groan and slouch over your office desk, “He says if I do this, he’ll let me do the pitch.”

“That’s not fair.” Namjoon frowns.

“Tell me about it. But this is my first possible opportunity to show my work to the client and prove my worth. I’ve been here for two years. I’m even training new recruits!” You whine into the mouthpiece as quiet as you possibly can, “If I can build a good portfolio with my own projects that gets recognized, I can get out of here with a good name to use for myself.”

“Yeah. I know. It’s about time you leave this hell-hole. You’re wasted here.”

“You’re telling me.” You snort.

“But hey, while you’re looking at opportunities, use it as your strength to get through working with him.” You wrinkle your nose and sit up at Namjoon’s suggestion.

“You’d think that’s a good enough motivation. But it really, really isn’t.” You shake your head. You see him bobbing down towards you quickly.

“I got to go. The hellhound has arrived.” You end the call just as you hear Namjoon’s laugh.

“Tell me it isn’t true.” Seokjin arrives to your desk with eyes widened with disbelief.

“You better believe it, buster. We’re partners.” You fake a smile. He rolls his eyes and puts a hand on his hip.

“No. Nope. I can’t work with you. You have the worst ideas on this entire floor!”

“You’re controlling, nit-picky, and close-minded.” You shoot back.

He sighs and leans against your cubicle wall, “I don’t know how we’re going to get along long enough to prepare the Christmas party.”

~•~

You sigh and you’re about ready to flush, but you hear people opening doors and giggling.

“So I heard the pot has over ten thousand now.” You’re at the very last stall and there are six. For the two women, they enter two and three, so they don’t realize there’s anyone there.

“Yeah? What are the options?”

“So 1) Seokjin controls the plans, 2) Y/N controls the plans,” You perk up at both your names. What plans?

“3) it ends in a ball of flames, or 4) they actually work together for once and make the best damn Christmas party we’ve ever had.” Your eyes widen and your head whips to the direction of the voices.

“Who was the idiot to suggest option 4, much less bet on it?”

“No one,” the other giggles, “it’s just there for shits and giggles; just to see if there are any takers on it. I think someone is trying to open another option to bet any of the first three to happen instead of that.”

“Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of having options 1-3?”

“It’s still just going to be there for shits and giggles.” They finish their business and leave the stalls.

“So what do you say, you want in?” One asks the other.

“What are the odds?”

“First option is +150. Second is +900. Third is +100.” The girl giggles before she continues, “No one’s bet on the fourth.” You clench your fists.

“So basically order of chances to win are ball in flames, Seokjin, dead last Y/N, and basically the fourth is practically off the table.”  The other laughs.

“Yeah. Basically.”

“Alright I’ll bite. I’m going with Seokjin.”

“I’m on ball of flames.” The other laughs and they leave the bathroom.

You lean against the wall and exhale loudly. You don’t know what you should be mad at more: barely anyone believes that you can overpower Seokjin’s ruling, no one believes you can pull it off, or the whole damn bet in the first place. $10,000 in the pool. That’s absolutely ridiculous. You think of how many employees are on this floor. Not even 100. That’s an average of $100 put into the bets.

You stand up straight with determination. You’re not going to let this happen.

~•~

“Seokjin!” You yell down the hallway. Half of the people look up from their desk. You’ve never noticed until now, but people are already exchanging glances. Well then a show you will give them.

“I need to speak to you. Now.” You turn to your right to strut into an empty meeting room with as much authority as you can muster, but your forehead hits the glass door. You stumble back and you hear snickering. Tears prickle in your eyes but you swallow the tightness in your throat. You push in and later on Seokjin follows in. You tell him to close the door.

“What?” You hear his obnoxious voice. You swallow and clench your teeth again. You close your eyes and hold your breath so your tears will disappear. You don’t face him as you continue to rub your forehead and you breathe when you trust your voice again.

“They’re betting against us.”

“What are you talking about?”

“This whole floor. Everyone’s betting that we can’t work together to make this Christmas party a success. There’s $10,000 in the fucking pot, Seokjin. On this floor.” You stop rubbing your forehead but your hand is still supporting it as you lean back onto the table.

“Fuck.” You hear his hands slam down on the table. Good, he’s just as mad as you. Actually, that’s impossible, since you haven’t explained the whole bet in detail. You bet if he knows that he’s the second best option, it might shine up his ego more than it should, so you’re going to leave that out for now. You need his alliance. You turn around to face him.

“Seokjin, I propose this. We put away all our resentment towards each other to make this work. We’ll give Namjoon $100 each to place a bet on us. We make it a success and we split the money threesies.”

“Threesies?”

“I’m not going to argue with you now. I need your help.” You show the determination on your face to prove to him you’re for real. Forget the fact that he’s got an ego the size of the world. Forget the fact that he always goes against your suggestions and all opportunities you get in making decisions that matter. This is war.

He studies you for a bit and he finally agrees.

“But we have to plan in secret. We need to act like we can’t agree on anything so people continue to bet against us.”

“Like that’s difficult.” He interrupts. You exhale in exasperation with a pointed look.

“Sorry. Okay. Yeah, I agree. But since we’re calling truce right now, we have to not let our arguments in front of everyone get to our heads, okay? I’m all about showing them up just as seriously as you do. And if we’re too busy holding resentment for our act, then we’ll get nowhere and play right into their hands.” Seokjin explains. You agree with him. You don’t nod your head because you can see people attempting spy as they pass by. You cross your arms to act like you’re still trying to argue.

“We’ll work offline. We can’t plan in this building. Walls are thin and corners have eyes. We need to meet outside.”

“We can go to my place. I’m actually one of the people who live furthest from the company.”

“Okay. Text me your address.”

“I don’t have your number.”

“It’s on my business card.”

“I don’t have your business card.”

“Then find one, damn it. I can’t openly give you one.” He sighs and rubs his face.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m still willing to work with you. As much as I’m frustrated with you, this is just for show to the outside.” You resist raising your eyebrows. He’s not kidding when he’s trying to put away his resentment.

“Alright. I’ll find a way. I’m going to leave now, and I’m going to make fun of you for hitting your head.” He turns to open the glass door, making people scurry away so they don’t act like they’re spying.

“You know, if you want to somehow intimidate me to go your way, you got to at least know how to use your eyes before opening a damn door.” He makes his last remark and leaves. You pout and lean against the table, rubbing your forehead again.

~•~

As according to plan, Seokjin is able to text you his address. You’ve explained to Namjoon how the bet works and tells him the deal. Of course he’ll agree; he’s just as much as Seokjin’s friend as yours. With this newfound determination he sees in both of you, he’ll not only bet on it, he actually believes it. He’s the only person here that believes in you, it just sucks he’s not on your team. Given his friendship with both of you, it will be no surprise for people to see him bet on you two out of loyalty.

At 7pm, you show up to Seokjin’s building with hot Italian food in your hands. He asked you to bring dinner because he doesn’t have enough for two.

You ring him through the lobby and he tells the doorman you’re okay to come in.

Jeez. No wonder he lives so far away. If I had a place like this, I’d never move either. You think to yourself as you walk through the lobby towards the elevator.

When you get up there, you hear him shout that the door is open and you let yourself in. You smell amazing food. You’re hungry and your Italian food on the cab ride here was enough to make you salivate and stomach growl, much to your embarrassment to the cab driver, but this…wow. You’re ready to drop everything right now and start digging in to your food, container and all, anything just to get something in you to satiate your hunger. But your smell senses tell you that your Italian food won’t satisfy you anymore.

“Let’s eat in here.” He calls out from the kitchen. You walk in to see a whole meal placed before him as he unties his apron.

“You said you didn’t have enough food for two! This is enough for three!” You set your bags down on the counter.

“Have you seen me eat? This is my serving size.” You tilt your head to look at him up and down, “Where do you put it all?”

He doesn’t answer you and starts digging in. You sigh and take out your food that now looks measly and unappetizing compared to what he’s cooked for himself.

“Okay. So theme. Let’s start brainstorming.” You say as you take your first bite. He groans.

“Can we do this after we’re done eating?” He pleads with his mouth full and wide eyes. You twitch a grin, “Fine.” He doesn’t think much of your expression and continues to eat.

“You should have told me to come later.” You express.

“It’s fine. We’re going to have to get used each other right? What’s an extra thirty minutes for dinner?”

“Thirty minutes? That’s how long it takes to scarf all that down?” You widen your eyes.

“Yeah. Wanna bet that I can finish in 20?” He grins.

“No thanks. I’ve heard enough about bets for the rest of this year. And the next.” You continue your food.

Despite not betting on it, he still finishes it in 20 and he washes his stuff as you finish yours.

“Jeez, you eat so slowly.” He wipes his hands dry when you finish your last bite.

“You’re just insanely fast, especially for your portion.” You wrap up your trash and dump it, “Okay, theme…”

~•~

In three days’ time, you two have planned out the contents of the party. Now you have four days for its logistics and execution. What used to be the clash of the titans to the both of you turns into an inside joke as you two act out your arguments. You two go in circles and get nowhere. When you get to Seokjin’s home, you guys actually laugh over what you two argue. It’s sad to admit, but if you were anyone other than yourself or Seokjin on your floor, you’d find the two of your arguing just as entertaining; but you’ll be damned before you stoop to their level and bet on it. According to Namjoon, ball of flames is increasing its odds and the pool increased by $500.

“Look, a luau inside this building is stupid. We have no space for it, it’s a fire hazard, and really, during Christmas?” Seokjin raises his voice at you.

“So many people go tropical during the season so they can avoid the cold, it happens! And who said luaus have to include a fire show or tiki torches? You were the one who told me to think bigger last time. Is this not thinking big?”

“This is called thinking poorly. And if you have no fire show or tiki torches, you’re being even less inauthentic; and that’s bad enough. What kind of half-assed theme is that?” Seokjin’s phone dings and he ends this conversation with you.

You drop back down to your seat and blow away the bangs in your hair. You get a text message.

Seokjin: That was really good!

You smile and reply: Thanks. Not bad yourself.

~•~

Once again, conversations in the bathroom are the best ways to receive intel.

“Oh, you should have heard it. It’s like actually witnessing them light up a roll of toilet paper and getting ready to throw it in the middle of the party.” Someone laughs as they talk over the phone. You roll your eyes. We’ll see who’s laughing when you guys see how great it is. Even if everyone’s bummed out at the party, they won’t be able to deny, it’s going to be fantastic.

“Oh, and Y/N’s arguments. They’re terrible! She suggested a luau. Can you believe that? As if we have space for that crap…Yeah I know. I don’t understand why she’s even still here.” Your limbs grow cold and your breath stills.

“Yeah, I don’t know what the boss is thinking, letting her train new recruits. We’re just going to have to unravel all that training and start all over. I’ve already got two under my wings asking for some real advice under-the-table…Yeah, well, he started the bet. If he didn’t dangle the chance for her to pitch, she wouldn’t work with Seokjin. Not like she’s going to get the chance anyway…” The conversation leaves the bathroom.

You close your eyes and lean your head back against the wall. You try to take a deep breath, but it’s slowly turns into quiet sobs.

~•~

Tonight, you’re quieter than normal, letting Seokjin lead the conversation and make the final decision.

“What’s going on, Y/N? We’re halfway through. We’ll show them up, get our money, and go for a shopping spree! I’m already thinking about an extravagant dinner. Yum.” He sees that you make no expression, comeback, or share his enthusiasm. You don’t even look at him and stare straight between your knees.

His voice turns soft.

“Y/N? It’s obvious that you’re not okay. There’s no use in not telling me anymore. Come on, we’re partners on this.” In the light, he sees tears form in the corners of your eyes. Before he can think “uh oh”, they already begin to fall.

“What’s the use? No one here believes in me. Everyone is just going to think you were the one who planned it all and then decided to split the credit, all in the ‘spirit of Christmas!’ I-I didn’t tell you at first because I need you to work with me. There are two more options to the bet. One option bets that you are the one who makes all the decisions and pulls it off; the other is me. Every day, both our chances decrease because more people are starting to bet on ball of flames, but mine are now zero to none. Everyone here thinks I’m a fucking joke. Do they think I want to be here? I don’t want to be here. If I get a chance to pitch and let clients even know I exist, it’s my ticket out. I know that if people give me a chance, they will see that I can do really good. I can’t express my ideas well every time but I’m getting there. What I say and what I’m really thinking of are vastly different.” You’re choking your sobs and but continue.

“You know, our boss is the one who started the bet and he dangled the pitch to me just so I’ll bite. He still thinks I’m going to lose. W-what kind of lousy jerk is he? If he doesn’t believe in me, he should’ve just let me live and have you plan the whole thing. Why does he have to humiliate me like this? Better yet, just fire me. It’s better than this.” You put your head down into your arms that rest on your knees and let yourself go.

You feel Seokjin lightly put his hand on your shoulder to try to soothe you. Then he sighs and decides that you need more than just a hand on your shoulder. He reaches further to grab your other shoulder to pull you into his embrace. You two sit on the floor against his couch as you sob into his chest. He rubs your back and run his fingers through your hair as he watches his shirt dampen.

“First of all, I found out about the other options a long time ago. After you told me, I heard more about it in passing from other people. To be honest, I wasn’t mad at you. In fact, I got a mad for you too.” You’re a little shocked by his confession.

“You’ve been here longer than anyone else on our team; where’s that credit? I know you’re not planner as much as executioner. I have nothing to say against your case whenever the planning is over and you’ve been given responsibility. You’re reliable there, do you understand? I’m sorry in the past when I always seemed like I was against your ideas. Maybe they just weren’t fully formed verbally. But I should have paid more attention, give more patience, and try to find out exactly what you thought so. Working together with you on this shows me that you can do the job. It just depends on the communication, or how many people you need to communicate with to get the idea through.” He almost forgets why he started to talk or what his point is, but man, he’s got the ball rolling.

“And not only are you an executioner, but you have experience in this field, in this company, and on our team. You know every old trick in the book that others try to recycle over and over, and I agree with you when you say it’s not innovative enough. You do hold value. Our boss is an asshole. It doesn’t take this bet to realize that. If you think people don’t like you, you should listen to what people say about him. But you don’t. You don’t get into such office politics, I mean, other than when it’s against me. But it’s only arguing; you’ve never gotten in my way, or anyone’s way, for your own gain. You do everything for the good of the project. You stay away from gossip and you work diligently.” You don’t realize it, but he tightens his hold on you as he lists all your values.

“So, screw the bet. Screw the boss. Screw the party. Screw everyone who’s against you. You don’t answer to any of them for anything. You know you’re better than this. I know you’re better than this.” Your sobs subside and you just listen to his words and his heartbeat.

He takes a deep breath when he’s finally done. He repeats in his mind what he just said. He never consciously realized how much he can actually say about you. He never thought that he actually notices so many things about you.

You two sit there for a while. Tonight, planning is obviously shot. Forget that. But it’s okay, ‘cause you’re ahead of the schedule anyway.

“Thank you.” You croak. He takes a deep breath and runs his hand through your hair again, “No need to thank me.”

Your silent tears fall again, but this time out of appreciation.

~•~

For the next few days, it’s quiet in the office. You don’t want to be their entertainment feed like a circus animal. You no longer have the energy and patience to come up with false arguments with Seokjin, and he gets it; it’s actually his idea to stop the in-office arguments. Now everyone just thinks you two had the biggest fight ever which ends up to have to you two not speaking to each other. It still makes people talk, but they’re itching for an answer like they have lice. No one dares to ask though. Everyone tiptoes around you two like you’re a lioness taking a light nap. Latest news from Namjoon is that the pool is now a little under $16,000.

~•~

On the day of the party, you send a mass email reminder about the party invite. All guests have already RSVP’d in excitement to see the party results. Maybe at the party, you two will have a final showdown. You ignore all whispers as you quietly make your way through the office. Everyone gets a half-day off and come back in the evening in their best evening wear.

~•~

You look at yourself in the mirror at your party get-up. Even though you find solace in Seokjin’s words, you’re not excited to see everyone’s disappointment that they bet on the wrong horse. You sigh and make your way downstairs to see Seokjin waiting outside for you with a bouquet of red roses.

“What are you doing here? What’s this?” You laugh and take the bouquet from his hands. Your cheeks redden like the roses.

“Well obviously these are for you. And, we’re not going to the party.” You look up at him in shock.

“What? Why not?”

“Why should we? Just because we planned the best damn party doesn’t mean we have to show up. We don’t owe anyone. If anything, I believe the entire 16th floor owes us $16,000 in total. I already have Namjoon to host for us. You don’t need everyone going up to you saying, ‘Wow, I can’t believe you actually did this.’ Not tonight. Tonight, you’re going to be with someone who actually appreciates you.” He points at his own nose and you smile.

“So what are we doing instead?”

“We,” He leads you to his car and opens the door for you, “are going to celebrate early from that extravagant dinner I was gushing about. We are going to celebrate Christmas ourselves. Namjoon will reimburse tonight from my share. We,“ He closes your door when you’re safely tucked in and walks to the other side to get in, “are going on a date.”

You crack a smile and he looks over. He smiles and stretches out a hand to cup your cheek.

He leans really close and his forehead touches yours, “You have a really beautiful smile, you know that?”

“I do now.” You say quietly.

I love your writing!! Don't be so hard on yourself ♡

:) You’re very very sweet. Thank you. I enjoy writing and I’m happy with the things I actually wrote. I just wished I worked harder so I can deliver to you what I intended and you could enjoy even more.

Everything is queued up and ready to go for you because I’m going to be out of town all week. Idk if I’ll get a chance to come on Tumblr until then.

I hope you like them!

I absolutely love your BTS Hogwarts! AUs. I'm also very excited to learn about what's going to happen the OC Hogwarts one too. Jungkook and Arabella seem like a very good match, and I'm glad to see the friendship (romance) bubbling between Jimin and Vanessa. I assume that Yoongi is paired with Wren then? Anyways, I love your blog and your writing and I hope you update soon!

Wow! Thank you so much! I’m really happy that you like my Hogwarts au. It’s one of the very few things that my followers favor on my blog.

I’m sorry I haven’t been able to update it. I’ve been working on my Christmas prompt scenarios…I’ll have more time after New Years, so stay tuned! Thanks so much for reading!

And yes, you will start seeing development with Wren and Yoongi soon.

The Tail of Good Deeds | Jimin

Summary Prompt: Christmas Prompt #9: Character A vows to do something nice for a stranger during the Christmas time. Character B is that stranger

Namjoon | Seokjin | Yoongi | Hoseok | Jimin | Taehyung | Jungkook

~

Your tail flicks furiously as you ascend higher towards the ocean surface. Your dark red mermaid tail shimmers with a metallic-like sheen because of the sunlight breaking into the euphotic zone of the ocean. You’re on your way to use your human legs for the first time ever.

Seven months ago, you’ve reached mermaid maturation. At the age of mermaid maturation, a mermaid finally has the capability to change into a human. It takes about 60 years, a fifth of a mermaid’s lifespan, because it’s at this age that you can resist “reckless curiosity” that could potentially make humans catch on to your species identity. Even so, you’re still really young; you’re considered at your prime. It is also at this age where a mermaid will finally choose something to do that will contribute to the merpeople society. It’s no secret to your family, friends, and all creatures of the deep nearby of your interest in humans, and for that, you’ve chosen to study humans.

With your passion for human studies and your ability to change into a human, you’ve decided that your first expedition will also be the first time you choose to walk on your human legs during one of the human’s most festive holidays ever, Christmas.

You’re not too sure what the holiday is all about, since it is a human holiday after all, and you’ve only started on human studies seven months ago. But you have observed many people feeling happy during this holiday, so it makes you happy too. You’ve decided, that whatever this holiday is about, it will be your favorite human holiday. People are practically celebrating from a week to a whole month because this holiday, and the next year’s holiday are almost back-to-back. It’s why you chose to do an ethnographic study of the Christmas holiday to experience the joy yourself.

Your head comes up above water and you are already shivering from the gust of cool winter air. As soon as your neck hits the air, your gill openings close into your skin and smoothen out. You take a deep breath through your mouth and nose and your human lungs activate.

You glide your way to the rocks and look around to see no one. You put your hands and arms on the rocks and slowly hoist yourself up through your upper body strength. The golden scales over your breasts glisten in the sunlight and you can see the lovely light refractions onto the rocks. You smile to yourself as you slowly bring yourself up higher.

“S-so cold.” You stutter to yourself as the ocean breeze hits your entire upper body.

You’re finally high enough to turn your body around to sit on the rock. You move your tail up to tuck next to you as you fish around the rocks for some of your human essentials you gathered and put up here much earlier in the year. Inside, you find a dry towel and human clothes.

You remove all your mermaid accessories from your hair and comb your hair with your fingers. You wrap the towel around yourself and you sigh in content. The towel is fluffy and has been baking under the sun for quite some time now. It’s so warm.

As soon as your upper body is dry enough, you start wiping yourself down. Your golden scales are harmlessly flaking off like dead cells and you recognize the human anatomy. You look over to your tail. An indent is already formed in the middle of your tail, and your fin has shrunk down to human feet size. You tilt your head as you observe it slowly changing. In good time, the fin has disappeared. You wipe away the rest of the flaky dark red scales on your human legs and you now have beautiful and smooth human legs tucked underneath you. You stretch out your legs in every way imaginable and wiggle your toes, giggling as you do so.

You quickly take out your clothes. With a bit of a struggle, you put on human garments for the first time. It feels so constricting, considering that you don’t wear clothes as a mermaid, but this is human culture and without this, you will be cold because of the weather up here. You stuff your towel into your seaweed sack.

Here comes the big feat: standing up. You perch your hands on the rocks as you lift you upper body. You haven’t used your legs to support your weight yet, but you bend your knees closer to you and allow your feet firmly planted on the floor now. You bounce up and down for a little bit to feel your weight shifting from being supported by your feet to your hands until you give more responsibility to your legs. You stand for a good minute or two without help from your hands. You finally make your way to shore.

When you get there, you leave the beach and look at both sides of the road. Many cars are turning into some sort of plaza or shopping center. That will be your first destination.

You observe the order in whose turn it is to cross the road or drive and manage to get to your destination unscathed.

You choose to enter into a shop you see has the most people. The air is warm and the smell has a very sweet but robust scent. Chatter is everywhere and you see little light bulbs of various colors flickering around the windows and aligned with the walls. There’s a tree that grabs your attention. It’s heavily decorated and there are boxes wrapped in pretty colors and bows underneath it. You walk over to admire the beauty.

“You like Christmas trees?” A voice speaks from behind you. You turn around to see a man behind the store counter. You smile and nod at him, “It’s very pretty.”

He smiles back, “Are you ready to order?”

“Hmm?” You look around to see everyone have a warm drink in their hand.

“Oh, uh. I actually don’t have any money on me.” Even underwater, there’s the need to exchange goods of same value for services and other goods; you expect nothing less from humans.

He gives you a strange look like, Then why are you even here?

“I came to avoid the cold for a little bit.” You say quickly. He sighs and looks around, “Would you still like a drink? It’ll be on me.” On him?

“N-no, it’s okay.” You smile and shake your head. Of course, he takes it that you are simply a nice girl who doesn’t want to take advantage of someone, not because you’re afraid of the implications of a drink being “on” him.

“It’s okay. I have employee discount. If you’re here to avoid the cold, you might as well have a hot coffee too.” He grins, and this time you can see his pearly white teeth.

“Okay.” You give in. He smiles at you and you walk up to the counter.

“What would you like?” He asks you and you look up at the board. Nothing here is familiar except for water, and you’re sure that it would be strange for you to only have water here. Besides, since you get to experience human life, you might as well try something new.

“What would you suggest?” You ask.

“Do you like more or less caffeine?” You’re not too sure what would happen to you if you had more of this “caffeine”.

“Less caffeine.”

“Then I would suggest a peppermint mocha. It’s not too much on caffeine and it’s a holiday favorite.”

“Peppermint mocha.” You were drawn mostly to the fact that the peppermint mocha is “a holiday favorite.”

“One peppermint mocha…what size would you like?”

“The largest one.” The guy chuckles as he punches in the order.

“Here’s my favorite part of the job: getting the pretty girl’s name.” He takes a cup and uncaps a sharpie. He looks at you expectantly with a grin.

“Y/N.” You blush. He has you spell it out for him. Luckily, human language is one of the things you first study about humans.

“Thank you, Y/N. I hope to see you again.” He nods at you. You smile back and walk away to let the next person in line order.

“Hey, Jimin.” Taehyung turns over to his colleague whose busy making coffee, “Do you have your employee discount card? Mine is in the back.”

“Aren’t you the one who was oh-so-chivalrously paying the girl’s drink out of your own pocket?” Jimin teased.

“Please? I’ll pay you back. I just need it this one time.” Jimin sighs and pulls out his card from his back pocket. Taehyung quickly uses it and gets the next guy’s order. Since no one else is in line, Taehyung snatches your cup before Jimin can grab it, “I want to do it.”

Jimin puffs out a laugh as Taehyung enthusiastically makes your drink. Jimin glances over to you to see you standing among other people waiting for your coffee. You’re a very pretty girl, but a little underdressed for the winter.

“No wonder why she has to get out of the cold.” Jimin mumbles to himself.

A girl who doesn’t have money and isn’t properly dressed for the winter? Makes one wonder about your situation.

Jimin can’t help but glance at your direction a couple more times. You’re distracted by all the Christmas décor with a peaceful smile on your face, like you’re letting the whole atmosphere of the coffee shop sink deep into your soul. It’s beautiful and humbling to him to see such a girl who doesn’t have much but still seeks out the simple pleasures in life.

Taehyung sees Jimin looking at you a couple times and he grins. He gives Jimin your cup and it snaps Jimin out of it.

“What?”

“I’m going on my break, you do it.” Taehyung whistles and skips off to disappear behind the “employees only” door before Jimin can protest.

Jimin sighs. He finishes making the drink for the man who was after you because that was what he was working on since Taehyung took your cup.

Jimin reads your order and your name and does his job as he should.

“One peppermint mocha for Y/N.” he calls out to you. You smile and walk over to take the cup.

“Thank you so much.” You feel its warmth and sigh. You take a sip and widen your eyes like you’ve never had one before.

“This is great! Where’s the other guy? I want to thank him.”

“Taehyung’s on his break now. I’ll let him know you say thanks.” You nod and take another sip. Jimin taps his fingers on the counter as he looks around to see there’s no one in line to order. He makes a decision. He leans over the counter to speak to you in a quiet voice.

“So, I know this place a couple blocks away; they serve three hot meals a day for free and gives you shelter overnight.” You continue sipping on your drink and blink at him; you don’t really understand why he’s telling you this.

He sees your blank expression and continues, “They have a lot of donated clothes there, maybe you can find something warmer for yourself.” You’re just blinking.

“Do you know where 7th avenue is? You go down two blocks, and then make a left. Go down one more block and it’s the blue building with the green door.”

“Okay…” You start. You’re still not sure what he’s getting to but he thinks you’re just someone who doesn’t have a strong sense of direction. But that’s okay. He gulps and looks at the clock, “I’m off my shift soon. Would you like me to take you there?”

“Sure.” You take another sip. He nods and checks the clock, “10 minutes.” You nod and turn around to look at the décor. You move closer to the fireplace. It’s the first time you see a fire so close; so close, you can feel its warmth. You reach out to feel it but the closer you get, the hotter it gets. Before you actually touch it, the heat is already unbearable and you pull back. Fire: bad. You’ll stick with water.

15 minutes later, Jimin is out and Taehyung is back behind the counter. You thank Taehyung once again and he smiles at you and Jimin as you two head out.

“Merry Christmas, Jimin.” Taehyung mumbles to himself in a sing-song voice and grins mischievously.

“I know it’s really cold, but we can get you something warm to wear when we get to the shelter.” Jimin says as you tag along. You have to scurry a few steps every once in a while to catch up with him because he’s walking so fast. It’s too cold for Jimin to make a lasting conversation with you and he can only think how you need something warm on quick. Technically, you’re okay though. It can’t be any colder than when you first came out of the sea.

You two finally arrive to the shelter and he opens the door for you. Jimin sighs as he unwraps his scarf and sheds some other winter layers. The shelter is very nice, warm and dry. Perfect for you to stay.

“So do you normally come here?” You ask as he leads you to the donations counter.

“Hey, Jungkook. Can you get my friend here something warm to wear? This is all she has on.” Jungkook looks over to you. He’s surprised to see someone so young and pretty, but still in an unfortunate situation.

“Sure. What size are you?” You shrug.

Jungkook slowly nods with a sheepish grin, “Okay…maybe that wasn’t the best question to ask a girl. I’ll go find something pretty for you myself.” Jungkook enters the back.

“So what were you saying?” Jimin turns to you.

“Do you come here often too? For food, clothing, and shelter?”

“Huh? N-no. But I volunteer here often. Especially during the holidays.”

“Do many people volunteer here during the holidays? Is that what brings Christmas spirit to you?”

“Heh, depends on what you mean by ‘many’ people. By headcount, yes quite a bit, but in reality, if you look at the ratio of the community population, we’re very few. Many people put their Christmas spirit in religious activities, parties, decoration and environment, or some don’t celebrate it at all” He smiles at you.

“I personally like volunteering because I’m giving more than getting. It’s not necessarily the miracle-birth-of-Jesus type of meaningful Christmas, but this is meaningful enough for me.” He shrugs.

So there seems to be a meaningful and an un-meaningful Christmas?

“I want to volunteer too!” You exclaim, “Is it only during Christmas or all the time?”

“…It’s…all the time…” Jimin hesitates, “Uh, I’m sorry. Did…did I get the wrong idea about you?”

“What do you mean?” Jimin turns really red.

“I am so sorry! You, well, you don’t have money on you and you don’t have much clothing to keep warm... I thought that…you know, maybe…you needed some help…” Jimin looks down at his feet, super embarrassed.

“Um, to be honest, I’m not really sure what you’re getting at, but it’s okay. I, uh, forgive you? Anyway, about the volunteering; can I start right now? I should head home in a couple hours.” You’re more excited to feel the spirit of Christmas through volunteering. You’re not sure what volunteering consists of, but if Jimin can do it and it doesn’t sound harmful, why not. In the spirit of Christmas, you choose to volunteer.

Jimin’s ears turn red at the mention of your home. He thanks his lucky stars that you don’t seem to take any offense to it. But that still makes him curious about where you come from.

After Jungkook gets you a really nice and warm coat, Jimin brings you over to a sign-up sheet. You ask nervously if you have to put down so much personal information. He says that it’s not absolutely necessary, but the shelter is able to keep you informed about volunteering and donating opportunities if you do. You omit your personal information except for your name and age. Rather than your mermaid’s age of 60, you decide to divide that by three. Seems good enough.

You and Jimin spent the day volunteering. You can’t cook human food, so you served it to the ones who wanted it and helped Jungkook organize the clothes in the donations center.

“I feel great!” You say to Jimin after you two finally get a chance to sit down.

“I’m happy that you do. I still feel bad that I mistook you for…well, yeah.” Jimin takes a sip of his water bottle and forces his blush to subside.

“I’m very glad you took me here. Christmas must really be the best holiday.” You down your own water bottle too in one take. Every 20 minutes, you have to drink a whole bottle of water. He watches you in amazement to see you take in so much water at a time. Little does he know.

You look at the clock to see it’s already past 10:45pm. It’s not that you have a curfew or anything, but your body tingles because it misses the ocean so much. No matter if you can become a human or not, your natural instincts don’t give you the urge to stay human longer than 24 hours at a time.

“I should go home now.” You sigh. You throw away your bottle. Jimin gets up with you.

“Um…are you going to come back? You know, to help volunteer more often?” He asks quickly.

“Not for a while. It’s actually really rare for me to come out.”

“Can I take you home?”

“No!” You cry out and he raises his eyebrows at your outburst, “Uh, it’s too far away.”

“it’s okay. If it’s so far how do you even plan to get home, and all by yourself too?” He asks.

“Uh…”

So the mystery girl doesn’t have money or clothes, doesn’t want people to come to her house, doesn’t come out often, and experiences everything like it’s her first time…

“Y/N.” He says in a serious and low tone, “I know we're only strangers, but if you ever need any help, you can call me okay? Here’s my number. And if I can’t help you, authorities can. Truly, it’s better to ask for help. No one looks down on you if you don’t. Instead, you’d be very brave. Okay?” Once again, he talks to you in riddles. But his sincerity and his serious care for you makes you feel really soft and warm inside.

“You’re a very sweet boy, Jimin.” You give him a kiss on the cheek. He’s stunned.

“Okay, I really have to go now. Thank you for a wonderful day. You made me coming out here so worth it.” You scamper off. Jimin looks over to see that you’ve left your coat again.

He runs out to give you your coat but you’re already out of sight. He looks in different directions, but one he doesn’t count on is the direction to the ocean, where you’re already running over with glee because of all you got today, and also, you’re feeling pulled closer and closer to the salty waters.

Blog Announcement | 2016 Winter Stars

So…my specific word was “try” to write 3 scenarios per person…forgive me, I’ve only written 3 Hoseoks, 3 Yoongis, and 1 Seokjin as I write this announcement and queue it up. My daily goals were not met, and that is my fault. I should have given myself more time or worked harder this week…

So what I’ve chosen to do, of the seven that I’ve done so far, I’m going to change four of the scenarios’ member so each member gets one scenario. All the prompts and choice of member are all assigned by me, so I can change it as I please.

I’m really upset with myself because I really liked how I’ve written Yoongi and Hoseok in some of their extra scenarios. The character is not typical for them, and now since I’m spreading out the scenarios for each member, the person is changed. The member will fit the scenarios now, as did Hoseok and Yoongi previously, it’s just not nearly as fun for me because you don’t get to see the same angle I intended. I really wish you can read it as its original. But it is my fault for not writing all 21 scenarios for you guys, and I’m sorry I can’t deliver what I promised.

I didn’t actually get any feedback/requests on my Christmas present to you guys, but that shouldn’t matter. I should deliver what I said I would, and I didn’t. That’s on me. Despite the lack of expectations, it’s my responsibility to give you what I should have anyway.

I really hope you guys will still enjoy what I’ve written. Despite it not being the original member, I’m still satisfied with my plots. It’s less than my own expectations because of the character change, but the quality for you to enjoy is there. The plot doesn’t lack for you guys even if I change the characters, in fact, the personalities are even more fit than the original member. Even though I failed you, please give my scenarios a chance. It’s all I can offer.
