A LEAD WORTH FOLLOWING: 7 Reasons Why I Became NACE (Nancy x Ace) Shipper

Before anything else, I wanna say that I became an absolute NACE shipper since episode 2 of Season 1. So, most—if not all—of the reasons I will be sharing would be from Season 1.

1. Ace's character was first introduced through Nancy's voiceover and this was where the NACE seed was planted in my opinion. What's this seed I am talking about, you ask? Well, it's the fact that Nancy subconsciously trusted Ace (and his judgment) from the very start.

She talked to him about tanking her grades on her senior year as well as bailing out from college applications. She even declared that he doesn't judge her (that or he forgot about it). This happened during one of his smoke breaks (Ace probably stopped coz of all the crimes & supernatural shizz happening. HAHAHA He got no time for that). The thought that Nancy willingly shared something remotely about her private thoughts or situation to anyone at that time of her life was massively interesting. And imagining her talking to Ace at the back of The Claw while Ace was smoking was funny and has been a hint for a possible ship, at least for me.

Trust doesn't come that easy to Nancy but gradually we came to witness that by the 10th episode of season 1, she has gotten close to Ace. Nancy's trust towards Ace happened naturally and smoothly over the next episodes.

2. This is a continuation of the reason above. Nancy and Ace's relationship is rooted in their trust in one another and them knowing each other better than the rest of the Drew Crew (well, PLATANCHOR's the exception).

So it was a huge scene or argument between the two of them when she confronted him about being McGinnis' lackey. She said she can't trust him and Ace was clearly troubled by this. I know I am not the only one who thought that when Ace came back to work after the accident, the look they gave each other (for the lack of a better term) was glutinous. Their exchanges were brief and awkward BUT meaningful and there was obviously a stronger pull to one another by that moment. THEY CLEARLY HAD A CONNECTION FROM THE START, OKAY.

They are both observant of each other. Nancy always thought that Ace was smart. She already knew the degree of Ace and Bess' closeness (phone passcode). She (& Carson) was impressed and had full trust in Ace's hacking skills. Ace's "I know Nancy, I knew she was right" answer after drinking the fake vial of poison to prove Nancy's theory was a major hint of the amount of trust Ace puts towards Nancy's judgment.

They consulted one another about cases and theories since season 1. Who would forget that Nancy once declared Ace as an expert when they were trying to find out about the existence of an orphanage near Horseshoe Bay?

3. The foremost reason why I became a NACE shipper was in episode 2 of season 1. It's the scene where Bess & Ace provided boxes for the blood samples of Tiffany & Lucy. Ace remarked on being "as friends" with Bess. It was the first time I saw Nancy genuinely smile at what someone said and she even tried to hide her smile! This was the start of numerous season 1 scenes where Nancy constantly smiled or her face lit up because of what Ace said or did. Just look at that smile of Nancy's below!!! That's the smile & interaction that made me ship them hard!

4. Nancy's pretty comfortable with Ace from the very start. Even though she doesn't know it then, she's more open to Ace than Nick and before George & Bess.

She tends to openly show Ace her annoyance towards his quirky ways, especially in season 1 such as throwing a table napkin at him when he was drumming with wooden ladles, the "like a fungus, Ace" remark... I'll add her smiling, smirking and rolling her eyes to several of ace's quirky jokes and remarks.

Ace's whisper box version was exactly as he was in reality which means Nancy already ffind him good and almost perfect since the world in whisper box was all happy and perfect. This was proof that Ace is always good enough in the eyes of Nancy from the very start.

They're pretty comfortable with one another from the very start. It's almost at the same level as Ace's platanchor relationship with Bess. Ace texting Nancy for a favor regarding Bess' sleeping arrangements (Platanchor rules! BTW). IDK if it's just me but I loved that scene of their quick exchanges when they're walking towards Bess' storm-damaged van. The vibe I got was so chill and cozy.

5. Ace, I think, was the very first one to say that THEY are Nancy's friends, "Hero of Horseshoe Bay's Friends". Nancy even teared up a little bit while looking at him when he said that before looking at George & Nick then. This is one of the moments that stuck with my NACE heart. He even clarified to Nancy when she questioned why they keep showing up when she didn't ask them to, "Because it's what friends do... we show up."

Ace is a soulful thinker. Ace was pretty perceptive and was almost always the one who said the right thing at the exact moment. His remarks more often than not lighten up each situation. He was always concerned about Nancy and this always dripped into all his words and actions.

Do you still remember how he came up with the idea of talking and holding Nancy's hand when she was trapped in the whisper box? And how it's his message that got through to Nancy and brought her back to her mission of finding her way back to the real world.

6. Ace has always been loyal to Nancy and he is also her biggest supporter since season 1! He was her supporter before & after his accident. He always sought Nancy's point of view in almost all situations. Ace was such an admirable guy for being able to observe when something was bothering Nancy before anyone else could.

He's been always able to get through his message to Nancy no matter what (Whisper Box!). He expressed his concerns and care without any expectation from her. He can call out Nancy on her shortcomings and messiness in handling things without being mean towards her. This went well with Nancy's unquenchable trust issues and curiosity, especially at the beginning.

Fortunately, I witnessed how much Nancy came to value Ace’s presence in her life even since season 1 episode 10! And I will not call myself a NACE shipper if I haven't held my breathe and squealed when Ace confessed! Even then, he only wanted to tell Nancy how he feels and didn't pressure her to give a response.

7. Ace is on massively good terms with the 2 dads! He vibed with them as well and he was viewed by Carson & Ryan as trustworthy and someone they would jam with really well both on missions and road trips.

Ace's character's first shining moment was always for me the JAIL BREAK scene. I think it was also the very first scene where Carson gets to spend time alone with one of the Drew Crew and a thrilling one at that! From then on, we get to see how Carson relies on Ace and it's especially highlighted when he appeared to be the one who stuck on Carson's side without really breaking his loyalty towards his friendship with Nancy. Ace, in fact, helped Nancy see Carson's side of things and to see beyond her confusion and hurt feelings about the secret of her birth. IN season 3, we get to see how much Carson cares for Ace.

Ace's suave handling of the scene where the Drew Crew was confused about why they're doing the Ritual with Ryan & not with Carson. Ace & Ryan became good mystery-solving buddies lately!

THE DADS ARE NACE SHIPPERS BTW. RYAN CALLING OUT ACE ABOUT WHATEVER TENSION HE HAD GOING ON WITH NANCY & CARSON'S LACK OF QUESTIONING MEANT HE ALREADY KNEW WHO SHE WAS REFERRING TO AS HER "SOULMATE" AND THE "MAN SHE LOVES".

I always wonder when and how other NACE shippers came to be. Especially the ones who are living and lurking on Tumblr. SO I am sharing this post here.

FYI, the title came from one of Ace's lines. I think it was from season 3 episode 2. I am not sure.
