That's a great question @alterboyx, and I know it's something a lot of people struggle with, and unfortunately it doesn't have a super simple answer, but I'll try to explain the concept here.

The main thing to understand here is that the h is always caused by something else, this change called "lenition" in english and "séimhiú" in Irish has a lot of different causes.

So for example the word mo (my) lenites, so you'd get mo bhean.

Sometimes people want to hear a list of all the words that lenite, but I think this is usually unhelpful because there's so many different situations and it's much more helpful to learn those things as you come across them. (e.g. there's no point saying that masculine nouns are lenited after an in the genitive if you don't know what the genitive is yet).

So my recommendation is to understand how lenition affects pronunciation, and then as you learn parts of grammar, if you see something being lenited find out what rule is causing lenition in that specific situation.

So like you might see "Tá an fear sa charr" and then you'll find out that sa lenites. Or when you're learning about the possessives you learn that a (his) lenites so you know it should be a chóta (his coat)

Aside from a few words which are lenited all the time for historical reasons (like cheana or chun, usually not nouns), there's always something causing the lenition, so you just want to find out what that thing is.
