You Know How Nightmare Canonically Has Had Three Different Killers Over The Years? I Like To Headcanon

You know how Nightmare canonically has had three different Killers over the years? I like to headcanon that fanon Nightmare also had three Killers and it just shows his progression.

Like, the first Killer he found was when he was still very much hateful of everything after the incident, and so he doesn’t really care exactly what happens to him (like in Underverse), and that is what eventually leads to the first Killers death.

The second Killer he was more strict with, realizing he “wasted potential”. But that drives this Killer to run off with Color and get his happy ending and escapes like in the comics.

And lastly the third Killer that we know and love is when Nightmare finally figures out that if he wants loyalty he actually has to SOMEWHAT take care of them. This is when Nightmare starts to view him less like a tool that needs taken care of and more like an individual. He had his mess ups, but Nightmare starts to actually CARE about Killer. And realizing how much he needs him around causes him to steadily build up the Bad Sanses to what we know and love today.

Don’t get me wrong, I really love the idea of him immediately saving Killer and then learning together… but I also like the concept that it takes time, and Nightmare was FAR from in the perfect mindset after the incident. I also am a sucker for angst. I also like to imagine he tries to make amends with the second Killer when he realizes how wrong he was… but I think I’ve rambled enough… Anyways!
