Today I Made A Christmas Ornament. (and Also Did Muh Nails)

Today I made a Christmas ornament. (and also did muh nails)
it is a snowflake made out of felt. I stuffed it with the little scrappy bits of felt that I had leftover so it's a bit of a little pillow. it looks good and is now hanging on my tree.
Yes, I copied the design off something I found on pinterest. because I am a hack. you'll note I didn't do as good of a job of it as Jody Bishel does, so I don't feel too bad about it.

Intaglio Print, black ink on white paper.
another one I will probably slap on a scanner later on, as unlike a lot of my stuff it's small enough to be scanned.
you know what, no explanations on this one, and no title. I've been talking enough on my other stuff. just look at it for a bit and figure out what you think is going on. that's just as valid as anything I have to say about it.

Lucky Rabbit, for ❤ day 2012
this is a four layer screen print of a rabbit skull with clover. bottom is the sketch I worked off of. I knocked out an edition of them for a valentines day exchange by drawing on transparent sheets of plastic with a sharpie paint pen and doing a photo emulsion on my screen with all of the layers in diffrent parts of the screen. tape over the parts you don't need, clean it well between layers, and that kind of thing can save time, photo emulsion, and energy.
the valentines day exchange is where people brought each a set number of things and passed them out for one of each of the the things everyone else brought. which is possibly the best way to do valentines day. (like a kindergartner) I say things instead of prints, because while some of us made prints, some people brought food, and some people did little hand-drawn valentines. I still have a lot of the non-consumable ones on my bulletin board, I'm not showing them off because, as you might be able to tell, I am doing my best to make sure this tumblr is all my art and my art thoughts (and some songs that inspire my art thoughts) so I'm not going to show you Tessa's Garbage-Pizza Cat. which is captioned "Lets get dirty" even though it is fantastic. nor yet the star wars valentine from Austin.
not really much to say about this one. it was an idea that was kicking around my head after I did the wolf and deer skull. never did do a fox-skull to pair with it because they are too visually similar to the wolf I had already done. it's pretty nice in person because the yellow is actually a gold, thus it sparkles like a son of a bitch. looking at it now, I should have put another layer on it, over the gold but under the black to give some dimensionality to the skull, that or left some of the white showing through, and maybe outlined in a different color, possibly a dark green.
Man, do I ever love special effects art supplies. stuff that glitters, is holographic, or glows in the dark, or changes color based on ambient temperature, or looks different painted on black or white. but that kind of thing never looks good unless the effect is understated, and to say that I am less than good at subtlety, would be an understatement in itself.

alright so these are all the blocks I just printed this afternoon shown with a good example of the prints I made from them.
valentine's day Gunnels I intend on coloring. they will be pretty glorious, not that they aren't already
the rose was originally a study but I liked it and I think I still do. it's pretty basic but it's easy to get bogged down trying to work small and I have to keep it iconic to make it work.
next after that is a trillium. same deal different flower.
after that, queen of pomegranates. her face looks like it was mde by De Kooning and the idea was kind of stupid so these are probably going to become mixed media. but the dog turned out rather well so I'm happy.
after that is slugs posed in a classic crowned ouroboros. which I happen to love, fits very well into my general theme of taking classic mythological and alchemical symbolism and making it out of things native and familiar to me.
ta- fucking dah.

Chanterelle Mushrooms
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chanterelleit's a spoon print. I forgot to put these up on here earlier, so it's a little old.

second patch for today. I used a little bit of this paisley quilting fabric in the middle, otherwise it's felt and embroidery thread..
if I was a sincereist, this is probably the heart I would be wearing on my sleeve. working small has been fun, but I should plan out something nice and complicated tomorrow.
