[🥞8:15 am ] You’ve been up since the crack of dawn, tap-tap-tapping your fingers on the kitchen counter as you wait for Chan to come home. Your head snaps towards the front door every time you think you hear someone outside, and you finally decide you might as well make yourself useful and whip up some breakfast. Knowing your boyfriend, he’s probably been running solely on caffeine and water since yesterday morning, so you roll up your sleeves and get to work making pancakes, throwing in extra chocolate chips just how you know he likes them. The smell of melting chocolate and cake batter fills the kitchen and you smile to yourself, and before you know it you’re on your last batch.

The sound of the front door swinging open startles you into nearly dropping the ladle. Setting it down impatiently, you make a run for it, pancakes abandoned on the stove. Standing in the doorway, outlined in morning light, Chan is just how you’d expected him to be: eyes ringed with sleep and happy tears, puffy black jacket draped over his tired shoulders, and you see his exhausted face break into your favourite smile – dimples and all – before you tackle him, pulling him into a tight hug. You hear him murmur, “oof, easy, tiger,” before chuckling and hugging you back with reciprocated enthusiasm. His gentle hands run softly through your hair as you two slowly rock back and forth, just basking in the warmth of each other’s embrace.

“Can I at least shut the front door before you decide to pounce on me the moment I come home?” Chan teases, but there’s not a hint of annoyance in his voice, a low and familiar hum in the shell of your ear.

“Never,” you declare mutinously, and he laughs again. Chan feels so right, so at home in your arms, with you pressed flush against his heart, that he’s contemplating staying like this for the rest of the morning – at least, until the smell of something burning pricks at his nose.

“Love…were you cooking something?”

Chan breaks into a laugh as he watches your eyes widen with horrified realization, sprinting back into kitchen, Chan close behind. You quickly scrape the last batch of pancakes – charred beyond saving by this point – into the compost and chuck the pan into the sink before balancing the plate of the ones you’d made properly in your hands. You turn around to an amused Chan, and hold them out at him.

“Here, Channie. Congrats on your first win!”

Chan’s eyes widen when he sees the pile of pancakes, lopsided but golden-brown, piping-hot with creamy chocolate oozing down the sides, and he barely keeps himself from melting on the spot. You carefully pick one from the top of the pile and hold it up for him to take a bite, which he does, the fluffy sweetness warming his empty stomach and bringing tears to his eyes. As Chan looks down at you, he’s not sure what he finds sweeter – the pancakes, or the bright smile adorning your features, and so he decides to find out, leaning forward to catch your lips in a chaste kiss.

Your lips part in surprise, and you feel Chan smile into the kiss softly. He tastes like chocolate and cake batter, mouth warm and sweet and just right against yours. 

You’ve never really understood the meaning of lovestruck until you see Chan’s expression when he pulls away, half-lidded eyes brimming with nothing but a profound love for you.

“I love you, you know that?”

Chan has the rest of the day off, so as soon as you two finish eating, he carries you to your bed. Bellies full from pancakes and lips sticky with syrupy kisses, you fall asleep in each other’s arms, snug beneath the warm covers.

“Felix, what are you doing?” You giggle, and he hums, smiling against your shoulder, his cheek squished against you.

“You took all the pillows so I’m using you as one,” he says happily, nuzzling his face into the crook of your neck. “You’re really warm. Comfy.” He kisses your skin and you shudder a little at the ticklish sensation, your face burning, and the heat spreads down towards your shoulders. “Are you blushing?” He teases.

“You can’t just sweet talk me and kiss me and not expect a response,” you pout, and he grins, hands playing with your fingers.

“Love you,” he mumbles softly, locking his legs around yours.

“Love you too, honey,”
