Who Is It Who Really Needs Saving?

Who is it who really needs saving?

is the question Dabi asked when Tokoyami came to rescue Hawks in the middle of the raid war arc. Dabi asks this question just after Hawks stabbed twice in the back with the justification that it would save people, despite the fact that Twice was also a victim too, and also someone in need of saving. Dabi’s question is especially poignant because it asks who is hero society invested in saving, a question that is repeated by Twice who believes Hero Society only saves the good victims, and Himiko as well who asks if Heroes save people, then was Twice not a person.

I bring this up because chapter 299/300 end on another parallel between Dabi and Hawks. Both of them have their backs being shown, however, Hawks is already healing due to the nature of his quirk, whereas the permanent burns on Dabi’s skin has already gotten worse. Hawks and Dabi also have opposite goals at this point, Hawks to support Endeavor, and Dabi’s ultimate goal is to bring him down. However, Rei’s words over Endeavor’s panel add another layer of complication to this. “Those regrets and guilt, the rest of those have borne that burden much more than you have.” Endeavor is suffering, but he’s not the one most in need of saving. I believe next chapter rightly, Rei is going to point out that the ones most in need of saving are the ones who suffered the most because of Endeavor’s actions. Endeavor was never the one in need of saving, and in need of redemption in the first place, rather it was Dabi.

short comic scenario of Todoroki Shouto and Todoroki Touya situation

> meaning me Who read the latest chapter 298 and want to drawing Shouto handholding Dabi and got drifted away than I think it going to be…

Touya for me is focused on Endeavor and the Goal to be the best too much to be good. and when one being lost in they mindset sometime it make them forgotten other thing…

—————-

I don’t know what Shouto saying at the end, first I debate with “let going back home"  or "welcome back” but none of this is suiting the situation for Dabi

since his HOME isn’t Todoroki house or at least it not a happy home he want to going back[neither Shouto feeling close with Dabi to welcome him back like that]

at the end I just focus more on that at the end someone reaching out to him and success

not that I agree about Touya and Dabi is a separate self they really mixing and being they own self. but I using the Touya[with tear line] as and innocent part of him still trapping in his own mind and endeavor bad parenting.

just giving those boys a HUG!

Decided To Give My Two Cents On The New Chapter In Meme Format As I Know Nothing Else.

Decided to give my two cents on the new chapter in meme format as I know nothing else.

[Image Description: A meme of Jim Halpert from The Office. In the first image he is pointing to a whiteboard that reads:

"Endeavour crying is not a guilt tactic and nor does it mean that anyone should be pressured into forgiving him. It is a normal human reaction. BUT those who do decide to sympathise with him are not abuse apologists, they simply recognise his growth as a character."

The second image shows Jim next to the whiteboard which now reads:

"Also, wishing death upon either Dabi or Endeavour for hurting each other is very counterproductive. They both need to be held accountable for their actions, I hope to see Dabi move on to a point where can live his life instead of dedicating it to revenge as well as Endeavour continuing to atone for what he's done. Neither of them can do this if they're dead."

End image description]

touya: a deeply hurt child

image

This is what I’ve been saying about Dabi. Underneath all that anger and mystery and hate is a deeply hurt child who desperately wanted to be loved and accepted unconditionally. Those childhood wounds don’t heal once you become an adult. Ever since Touya was born, even before he was a twinkle in his mother’s eye, he was told by his father that he’d become the #1 hero. He’s a child who interpreted his father’s attention and training sessions as love and bonding. Have y’all ever been around little kids? They think the world is magical and love looking up to someone cool. If Hawks admired Endeavor so much and had only ever seen him on television, can you imagine how much more Touya admired him? His own dad, who was the #2 hero? Touya probably thought he was so lucky and wanted to be a hero just like him.

And then it just - changed. Touya’s quirk started hurting him. Even his hair started to change. Touya could no longer see himself like his dad, who he thought the world of. The loss of red in his hair symbolized that he couldn’t be a hero like his dad. And not only that, but he was tossed to the side. Endeavor, in Touya’s eyes, went from hot to cold so fast, like that Katy Perry song.

In Touya’s mind, he went from being loved/worthy enough to being punished (read: deprived of what he considered affection) for something he couldn’t control. It wasn’t Touya’s fault his quirk hurt him, he wasn’t doing it on purpose, so why did his dad’s attitude toward him change? So to speak, it’s not that Dabi is mad Touya got a toy taken from him (becoming a hero) but that his dad didn’t want to play with him anymore once that toy broke. So, let’s not blame a victim for wanting to be loved and being angry they weren’t treated correctly. Touya didn’t understand that his father’s attention wasn’t because of who he was as a person, that it was driven by an ulterior motive. He couldn’t have understood that. He was a child.

I think that’s what is so tragic and frustrating about Endeavor’s failure as a father. He had fans out there like Hawks and Can’t-You-See-kun, but his #1 fan was his own son Touya. Endeavor didn’t have to be #1 to earn his children’s love. He didn’t have to be #1 at all, but it was a personal goal of his that blinded him to what it really meant to be a hero: to be a symbol of strength for someone, anyone, even if it was one person. That could have been Touya. That could have been his own family. Something along the lines of, “You may not be #1 on the billboards, but you’re #1 in our hearts.” The Todoroki family is so loving.

But he chose to hurt them irreparably. He did this, all of this. He could have still chosen to teach his children his fighting techniques without forcing his will on them, dehumanizing them, or verbally abusing them. He didn’t have to drive his wife to a mental breakdown, didn’t have to make Touya feel unlovable, didn’t have to ignore Natsuo, didn’t have to make Fuyumi grow up too fast, didn’t have to beat training into Shouto. But he did, and this is all his fault because he started this domino effect.

Touya is like Keigo, who looked up to Endeavor and was also abused by his father. Touya is like Tenko, who wondered why his father hated him and everything about him. Touya is like Tenko’s father Kotaro, who learned to interpret that all heroes hurt their families. Touya is like Shouto, who used to burn his body out of pure hatred.

But since Touya is like Shouto, he can turn things around, too. He can be saved.
