What To Expect When You're Not Expecting (4)
Chris Evans x Black (pregnant) Female Reader
Summary: It's no secret that Chris wants to be a daddy. He's said it in many different interviews and blogs before. He just never expected the mother of his child to be someone he didn't know, let alone fuck.
Warnings: 18+ angst, mentions of alcohol abuse and cheating/ malpractice, talk of abortions!, TALK OF SU*C*DE, TALK OF DMV! BE WARNED!
Note: If this gets a few hits and is well received I can make it a mini-series. If not I'll leave it one and done.
Edit: To my surprise, many of you like this and asked me to continue, here's the fourth part and a tag list to join! I'm trying to start my blog up so this really helps!

(the reader is finally finishing her first trimester, we have to move it along hehe)
Chris wanted to throw his phone against the wall he was so angry. He knew it came with the territory of being a celebrity, but sometimes he wanted to damn the paparazzi to hell. Invading his privacy was one thing, he had lawyers for things like that. But invading yours and the baby's fueled him with unbridled rage.
Maybe it was a sense of protection he was growing over the child you were carrying, but he didn't want your face out there and now it was. Chris blamed himself, he was just so caught up in you and the baby he had been so relaxed and hadn't noticed the camera.
"Fuck, she's probably seen it." He groaned throwing his phone onto his sofa.
"I bet she has." Olivia spat, leading Chris to roll his eyes. "Oh, this one's rich!' She laughed sitting next to Chris. "Captain America star Chris Evans was seen cozied up with homegrown Boston beauty last Friday. The pair were spotted leaving together, Chris holding open the door for his suspected new woman. And is that a baby bump? So, could this mean America's most eligible bachelor is off the market?”
"Fucking E-news!" Chris yelled. "Calling her a Boston beauty, and the bump, fuck!" he tugged at his brown fluffy strands of hair.
"I'm sure she called herself a homegrown Boston beauty.' Olivia mimicked your accent. "Sounds too narssacitic to be press."
Chris practically blew smoke out his nose. “Olivia would you just fucking quit it!” He slammed his hand on the coffee table, pushing himself off the sofa. “She didn’t leak shit! We got caught, that simple!”
“Why are you defending her, huh?’ Olivia turned Chris around by his shoulder. “You don’t even know her!”
“I’m getting to know her!’ Chris shouted. “And I—I like her so far. Yes, she’s a tough cookie to crack. But I like her, and she seems like a good fucking person.” Chris said, bringing his temper down.
Olivia shook her head pointing at Chris. “This isn’t over, I’m calling the press and the news and telling them to take every damn story down, today.” She stormed off, her heels clicking against the marble floor. Chris shook his head as his hands rested on his hips. He really hoped you weren’t hurting somewhere.
—
You sat with tears in your eyes that were ready to break like the Hoover damn. You never imagined yourself to be so pregnant, and so alone. You held your mom's hand tighter moving all the metal wiring and tubing out of your way. Trying your best to ignore the heart monitor's persistent beeps.
“Mom,’ you sniffled, caressing her motionless hand. “You’re finally going to have a grandbaby, see?’ You leaned back, exposing your growing belly.
But she didn’t move, she never did. Your mother stayed still, her eyes remained closed as a tube roped through her neck doing all the breathing for her.
“Fuck.” You whimpered, pulling at the hospital sheets as you cried into them.
Why was life so unfair and cruel? Especially to the people who did it no harm. Your mom had been in a coma for just over two years at this point. And each day she was left on life support was another day it felt harder to be here. Harder to not be were she was. Or worst.
You remember that night. That night you, your mother, and your younger sister had almost lost your lives to the heinous man you once called your father. He had beaten you along with your sister to a pulp and nearly killed your mother by strangulation. Resulting in her slipping into a coma.
The doctors said if he had strangled her for just another minute, she wouldn't have made it. And from that treacherous night on, you had done nothing but pray she would wake up. Pray she would recover and you all could heal finally, as a family. And he could rot in hell.
A soft knock on the door pulled your attention from your mother, you slowly looked over to the sound and saw your mother's nurse just making her rounds.
“Hi.’ She smiled, clicking a pen alive and scribbling what your were positive was nurse terminology down onto a clipboard.
You noticed in between everything she wrote she would glance at you with a precarious look bestowed on her face. It wouldn’t take long before she finally spoke up.
“Not to be rude.’ She coughed, putting the pen on the collar of her colorful nursing scrubs. “But aren’t you the girl who's dating Chris Evans?”
Your eyes went wide and your heart silent. Your breathing was unusually shallow as you swallowed what ever spit was left in your parched throat. “What?” Being the only word you could muster.
“I’m sorry.’ She laughed, sweeping a red flyaway behind her ear. “It’s just your trending all over social media. They say you’re dating him.’
You didn’t say a word, instead you tore through your bag, pulling out your phone and jamming your thumb on the power button waiting for it to illuminate in your face.
‘Cmon, cmon.” You groaned, pushing into the button harder.
Finally, your phone lit up and you unlocked it heading straight to Twitter's trending page. There you discovered Chris was trending number one. You gasped as your eyes scrolled down the timeline along with your fingertips. Suddenly your phone began to show all of the miss calls and text messages from random numbers and Chris along with your best friend Vada.
You stood up from your chair, leaning down and giving your mother a kiss on her cheek. “I love you, mom.” You smiled somberly into the kiss, pulling away with a sigh.
“And no.’ You looked at the nurse. “I’m not dating him.”
Fuck, should you have said that? You scurried out of the hospital, jumping into the back of your Uber dialing your Vadas number as the sweat continued to pile underneath your arms.
“Bitch, you better explain yourself, and now!” She yelled over the phone.
“Vads, I’m not dating him! I don’t even know how those pictures got out there! Did he really use me as a publicity stunt?” You groaned, looking out the window.
“So you’re not fucking him?” She asked.
“Fuck no! He just wanted to talk and I agreed, then he begged to take me home." You fanned your overheating body. "Fuck, do you think he set me up?”
“It doesn’t seem like it from the pictures.’ Vada typed away on her desktop. “Have you talked to him?”
“No, but I’m going to his house now.” You sighed, biting at your nails. “I know he's probably thinking about me what I’m thinking about him.”
“You think he’ll think it was you?”
“Yup.” You shook your head.
Your Uber came to a halt in front of the penthouse. You said thank you and stepped out closing the door behind yourself.
“I’ll call you back Vads.” You said hanging up.
You looked at your call log and you finger lingered over Chris’s name which was bright red with missed calls. You let the pad of your finger hit it and brung the phone up to your ear.
“Hello, Y/n?”
“Chris, what’s happening?” You asked, walking inside his building.
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I wish I knew.”
You took in a deep breath closing your eyes. “Can you let me up?” You ran a hand through your knotless braids.
“Your here?” Chris jumped up.
“Yes, is that okay?”
“More than okay.’ He said, walking toward his home phone that connected to the front desk. “One second.” He sat his cellphone down.
“Hey phill, can you let her up please?”
“Sure thing Mr. Evans, but which one?”
Chris paused, almost wanting to laugh. “What.” The laugh stifled out anyways.
“Well, there’s a pretty brunette here for you and a stunning lady with braids.’ He stood looking at both women. “So which one?”
Chris bit his lip and threw his head back. The last thing he need was to hear Emma's mouth about this. They weren’t even a thing, but she seemed not to take the hint. Or rather hints.
“Send 'em’ both.” He groaned hanging up the phone.
Phil shook his head, hanging his own phone up. “Um ladies,’ he coughed. “You can go through here.” A private elevator opened.
Your eyes scrunched together as you heard a pair of heels clicking behind you. Turning around you saw a fierce brunette walking towards you with fire in her eyes. She looked like something out of a magazine. Her brown hair flowed and bounced as she stomped toward the elevator. You scurried toward the elevator doors behind her, immediately feeling small next to the tall and slender woman. The doors shut in front of you and you began rocking on your heels hoping to elevate some of the tension that contaminated the air.
“So you’re sleeping with my boyfriend and he knocked you up?” Emma asked snarkily.
“What?’ You looked up at her. “No, it was a medical mistake.”
“Not what the news says.’ She crossed her arm, bursting out of the elevator at the ding.
You rolled your eyes, sheepishly following after her. You both reached the front door of Chris’s place. Emma knocked on the door ferociously so that it certainly could be heard from the other side. And it was, Chris opened up the door looking exhausted.
“Really?” She shouted, pushing past him.
You stood there biting the inside of your lip watching him shake his head low.
“Hi.” You said, still standing outside his door frame.
“Hi.” He exhaled, opening space for you to walk through.
"Trouble in paradise?" You chuckled, pointing towards Emma.
"There is no paradise,' he whispered, shutting the door.
"Hm," you said, tugging at your purse strap.
"There's the little minx." Olivia's nose flared as she strutted towards you with Emma behind her.
"That's not even the word for her." Emma ground her teeth together.
Your breath hitched in your throat as you stepped back, not noticing you had cowarded behind Chris who held your arm gently in support.
"I didn't leak that!" You croaked out.
Olivia folded her arms. "So who did?" She smiled, her eyes blinking rapidly.
"I don't know! Maybe the paparazzi!" You shouted unsurely.
"Chris!' Emma shouted, "Why are you touching her?"
"Because you're both acting insane and shouting at her! She's pregnant and I'm done allowing you both, especially you Liv , to torment her!" Chris belted, veins popping out of his neck.
He grabbed the small of your back, leading you to his couch and sitting you down. "Do you want something to drink, I have ginger ale."
You nodded, looking down at your shoes. "Yes."
Emma scoffed, plopping down on the opposite side of the couch, Oliva by her side, staring you down. "Can I have a drink as well, Chris baby?" she said, her eyes never leaving you.
Chris sighed. "Sure Emma, what would you like?" He twisted your ginger ale bottle open, pouring it into a glass.
"You know how I like it, something hot." She smirked at you.
You sat uncomfortably, not sure what her angle was with you.
"So you really didn't leak it?" Olivia asked.
"No, why would I?" You said, growing angry.
Olivia laughed. "Who would pass up an opportunity to be linked to Chris, lots of people just like you want him."
"I get you're protecting him, but the only thing I want to do is be able to eat my favorite foods without puking." You said, thanking Chris as he handed you your drink. "So no, I didn't leak it. Besides, how could I snap a picture from myself across the parking lot?"
Olivia's eyes softened, sitting back against the sofa. "We'll look into, it," She said snarkily.
Chris shook his head, slowly sipping on his expensive aged bourbon. It burning as it went down. “So where do we go from here?”
“We take her out of the public eye, not like she’s memorable. They’ll forget about her soon enough.” Olivia waved it off. “In the meantime, I’m going to set up a nice little PR date night for you and Em so the public will be off your trail.” She explained to Chris.
Chris rolled his eyes. “So what? We write it off like she’s a friend I was helping?” He asked, his arms resting on the top cushion of his sofa.
“Yup.” Olivia said popping ‘p’
“And maybe you and Emma should kiss, really make it seem legit.” She added.
“I’m all for that,” Emma smirked.
Chris leaned forward, rubbing his face with his palm. The last thing he wanted was for the public to believe he was a manwhore, with two women in less than a month it was bound to be a story, he could see it now. But it was for you and the baby. And at this point he would do about anything for the two of you.
“Okay.” He agreed, setting his drink on his coffee table. “Only for y/n.” He said, standing up.
Your head shot up, for most of the conversation you had been silent hoping no one would point a finger at you if you stood still. But now Chris had just bring that attention back on you, and in the most unexpected way.
“What?” You laughed in confusion.
“I’m only doing this ridiculous stunt for you.’ Chris clarified. “You didn’t ask for this.”
He looked into your eyes. “I’m doing this for you and our baby.” He said.
You weren't sure why, but your heart had just skipped a beat. He was so Captain America-like. Running to your defense like you had watched him do before on the big screen.
You brushed a braid, behind your ear. “Thank you.” Your cheeks heated up, and you almost wanted to slap yourself for allowing it.
“Yeah, anytime,” Chris said with a small smile.
Emma scoffed, grabbing her purse and leaving the room. "I can't stand to watch this!" She shouted, slamming the penthouse door.
"That girl is a nutcase." You sipped on your ginger ale, rubbing your belly.
"Tell me about it." Chris groaned.

Anxious was an understatement, this was the first ultrasound he would attend. The first time he'd officially meet his baby. Although he had no part in the conception, he never felt more connected to anything in his life. Chris pulled open the doors to the clinic, smiling at the front desk woman as he approached.
Instantly her eyes glimmered over. "Oh my goodness, are you, Chris Evans?" She questioned, frantically pulling out her phone.
He put his finger over his lips shushing her, pulling his baseball cap low. “Yes.” He chuckled.
“Oh my God, I love your work. Could I have a photo?” She giggled, making sure to whisper per his request.
“Sure.” He looked over his shoulder before leaning in. The woman snapped a photo thanking him once more and blowing a kiss.
You just laughed, closing your assignments as you clapped your hands. What a show that was, you couldn’t fathom being famous and getting recognized everywhere you went. You couldn’t even handle being recognized as a teacher in the grocery store. But Chris seemed to handle it well, it was one of the things you were beginning to admire about him. How calm he always seemed to be, it made you less nervous.
“Hey superstar.” You waved at him, putting your students assignments into your bag.
Chris laughed, walking over to you. “Wow.” He gasped as you stood up. “You’re getting so big.” He chucked in disbelief.
You frowned. “What do you mean by that?”
Chris’s eyes widened then softened. “No baby—I mean, Y/n. I meant your belly. The baby.” He pointed at your stomach.
“Well I hope so,” you grumbled. “Sit, our appointment isn’t for another fifteen minutes.”
“Right.” He sighed, sitting beside you. “What we’re you reading?” He asks, sparking conversation.
“Oh, my students informative essays.’ You chuckled. “Would you believe Aria actually wrote about immaculate conception after hearing our story.”
“That girl is something else.” He rubbed his temple.
“You must admit, she’s brilliant. And she will be getting an A.” You said. “And not because I unofficially slept with her uncle.” You brushed your shoulder against his.
Chris brushed yours back, laughing along with you. Not only was Aria something else, so were you, and in the best possible way. But there was something he couldn’t deny himself of knowing anymore. After your coffee date and you mentioning a high insurance rate, Chris looked into the real reason you needed two jobs. He couldn’t find much, but what he could find disturbed him. He just wanted to know the real truth, maybe he could help.
“Can I ask you something, Y/n?” He sighed, rubbing his palms over his knees.
“Shoot.” You smiled at him.
“I found something and I wanted to ask you about it.”
You frowned not sure where this was going, but before Chris could explain the doctor had called your last name. Waving for you to come back.
“Let’s table the conversation for after, okay?” You grabbed your bag.
“Just promise you’ll be honest.” Chris took your bag from you.
You laughed awkwardly. “Depends on what it is.”
—
“Okay, this is going to be cold, Ms. Y/L/N.” The doctor said, as she began to spread the ultrasound gel along your belly.
“Wow, that really is cold.” You jolted, laughing as she and Chris stared at the screen.
“Yes.” She giggled. “So tell me, Y/n, I see this is your first pregnancy. How has it been so far?”
“Well, I’ve been able to eat more and not get sick so that’s a plus. Also I have this app, it told me my baby should be as big as an avocado by now.” You explained, heading Chris laugh.
“An avocado, that’s so small.” He chuckled.
“Well babies are small, and a handful. Which is why it takes a village to raise them.’ The doctor said, still searching the monitor. “And I assume this is dad?”
“Yeah.” Chris spoke, his heart fluttering at the title.
“Ah, there they are. Beautiful heartbeat.” The doctor pointed at the screen.
You and Chris both leaned in, listening to the heartbeat as it sounded like music to your ears. Your eyes began to swell with tears. You had never had any intentions on having children, but after this, you felt completely different. You would protect this baby with your life. A lone tear rolled down your cheek as you felt your hand inch closer to Chris’s, almost acting on it own accord. Your fingers intertwined as he smiled down at you with misty eyes. That lonely feeling you felt subsided, you realized that as long as you two were in this together, Chris would never make you feel alone.
“When will we know if it’s a boy or girl?” Chris asked, wiping his eyes.
“I’d say give it another month or two.” The doctor smiled, wiping your belly clean. “Congratulations. Whoever they are or choose to be, they’re happy and healthy.” She smiled, leaving the room.
Chris sniffled, wanting to hug you so badly. He couldn’t help that he was a hugger. But you broke through the silence, blowing your nose.
“What did you want to ask me?” You groaned, swinging your legs off the exam table.
Shit, Chris had almost forgotten he wanted to ask you about a harrowing experience in your life.
“Right.’ He watched as your eyes searched his. “Y/n, what really happened to your mother?”
Your stomach dropped, your eyes were glossy again and not from hearing the heartbeat of your baby.
“What?” You croaked.
“I looked into it, the reason you work two jobs because I didn’t want you stressed out.’ He sighed, leaning against the exam table, your watering eyes tearing him apart. “I read an local paper about your stepfather and your mother.”
“It didn’t say much, but it said enough.” Chris said. “Is your mother okay?”
Your body trembled, why would he think it was ok to ask you such questions. Especially after arguable the best moment of your life.
“Why do you care?’ You questioned. “And—and why the fuck are you looking into my past? I thought you were over that?”
“I just wanted to help you anyway I could, and you weren’t talking to me.”
“Talking to you, I barely know you! At least not enough to give you my full fucking life story!” You shout. “Why is it that you know more about me than I do you? And I’m not the ones whose plastered all over social media!” You brush past him, holding onto you belly.
“Y/n!” He shouted after you.
But you ignored him. If Chris didn’t trust you to carry his baby, to hell with him. We all have our past, our demons and you were no exception. But neither was he, and you were about to find out what those demons exactly were.

CHAPTER THREE
The clappering pace of Tony's Tom Ford shoes against the tile gave Irene more anxiety than the nauseating mixture of bleach smells and the daunting blue walls that surrounded her. Tony had been running his hands through his hair and messaging his temples for the past ten minutes not speaking to Irene.
She had returned to the compound, blood all over her and still soaking wet. Immediately she was taken in by medics and Tony wasn't too far behind them. Now she sat in a hospital bed, twiddling her thumbs waiting for Tony to say something—anything to kill this anticipation boiling in her stomach.
"You know.' Tony finally spoke, Irene's eyes immediately glued to his. "I could kill cap for this, punch em' in his perfect teeth." Tony pulled a stool beside Irene's bed, taking a seat.
"You don't mean that." She said, holding Tony's hand.
"Oh, I do. He kidnapped you, put you in a room with that psychopath—,"
Irene interjected. "He's not that bad. He's just scared."
"How would you know? He's a criminal, Irene." Tony argued.
"Because I went inside his head." Irene told the truth, clenching her eyes shut.
"You fucking did what?" Tony's question came off more as a shout.
"It wasn't on purpose." She winced, holding her side.
"But that was!" Tony pointed to Irene's visible neck bruise. "He hurt you, Irene. And if I would have lost you kid." Tony sighed, his eyes misting over.
"I know.' Irene pulled Tony's head towards hers, gently connecting their foreheads. "It was an accident." She whispered, her voice reassurance for Tony.
"I don't want you near em', any of em'.' Tony shook his head. "Not cap, not bird suit, and especially not Barnes."
Irene sighed, pulling her forehead from Tony's. She knew he was right. There was a war coming, and she wanted nothing to do with it. After all, she couldn't fight her family. But even as she laid in this hospital bed, drugged up and all. She still saw flashes of his face. He was cold and broken—his face looked barren of light.
She had never been in a more empty and numb mind. It pained her, then Steve saying she had pulled him back and had cracked Hydras code. It was beginning to seem she was the only person who could do it.
Irene slowly leaned back onto the pillow behind her. "I think I stopped him." She whispered, a lone tear spilling sideways out of her eye.
"What?" Tony asked.
"I barely know my power, not like I thought I did.' She sniffled. "When he choked me, Tony I let go of everything. And suddenly I was in a different plane, it was his mind. And I thought the crevices of his subconscious was the scariest part, turns out the scariest part is that the real Bucky Barnes is trapped there, buried beneath years of mind control and manipulation." She explained.
"No, don't do that.' Tony shook his head. "That empathetic crap."
"It's not crap! He's hurting Tony, he was like a wounded deer in there! You have no idea how that feels to experience someone's else's mind like that!" Irene shouted through her tears.
"And what does that have to do with you, Irene?' He grew angrier. "Huh?"
"Everything—nothing, fuck! I don't know!" Irene burst into tears, cradling her face in her hands. "I just want us all to be a family again." She cried.
Tony kneeled besides her, he shouldn't have yelled. He knew how Irene felt about this family, as she called it. She cherished all of these people more than herself sometimes. His heartaches and he now felt bad for pressing her on what she had endured. He hated to admit it to himself, but he knew her well enough to know. She had already gained sympathy for the devil.
"I'm sorry kid, okay?' He rubbed her hand. "I shouldn't have yelled."
A cough erupted from behind them both. Natasha stood underneath the frame of the door, looking between Tony and Irene.
"We need you." She nodded at Tony.
"I'll come back later." Tony sighed, talking to Irene who had rolled over on her side.
Irene didn't speak, she sniffled as Tony's boots clambered out of the room. She tucked her pillow into her side, squeezing it tight. She hated conflicting feelings, and she could feel them beginning to bubble in her stomach. She wanted desperately for them to stop and go away.
Irene suddenly winced in pain, holding her cheek in her palm. She sat up, her eyes flashing purple at Natasha.
"Why did you do that?" She growled.
"Here." Natasha shook the paper in her hand, urging Irene to take it.
"What is this?" Irene asked, taking the paper within her hands.
"It's from Steve." Natasha said.
"What does he want?" She held the letter, staring down at his penmanship.
"I think the better question is, what do you want?" Natasha turns around, swiftly leaving the room.
She stuck the letter underneath her pillow, burrowing further into the rough hospital blanket. She made her choice, but then again, she had also made the choice to be a hero. And she couldn't be a true hero if she didn't help the people—no matter how bloody their past.
Irene bit the inside of her lip, pulling the letter from underneath her pillow. She tore it open, her eyes scanning back and forth against Steve's words. He was convincing, she'll give him that. She groaned throwing herself back onto her pillows. Maybe she should have read all the pages of the accord and not just the first ten.
Visions brain was incompressible. He never failed to make an understanding of things from what seemed a logical place. But the truth was vision was practically a new born, but with a very old soul and an IQ that was simply unmeasurable. Irene could see how someone as emotional as Wanda could fall in love with him. The mixture of purity and intellectualism was indeed alluring.
Vision sat besides Irene, the two of them using subtle thrust of momentum to push themselves on the hammock they both occupied. Vision gave Irene a small smile and she gave him one back. Both their eyes immediately returning to the green grass full of little sprouting flowers, along with the sunlight that shined on the pound in front of them, it was nearly blinding but yet so beautiful.
Initially she had come to ask about Wanda, her best friend who was too prideful to come see her. Only sending her condolences for Irene's injuries through her passionate lover. It crushed Irene, she loved Wanda so much. She truly thought they were only having a spat, and she was very much so over it. Turns out Wanda didn't feel the same.
"Irene." Visions delicate voice broke through the sounds of nature.
"Hm?" Irene asked, basking in the sunlight, a tiny breeze flowing through her hair.
"I get the sense that you're in a bit of a bind.' He spoke with his hands. "Between your loyalties to Mr. Stark and the avengers as well as the people of this planet."
"I'm that frantic up there, huh?" Irene chuckled pointing to her head.
"A bit, yes." Vision laughed. "But the way I see it, couldn't both be true?"
Irene tilted her head, moving closer to Vision, giving him to gist to continue on with his claims.
"Couldn't it be true that you could help Mr. Barnes as Mr. Rogers has inquired about, while also remaining loyal to Mr. Stark and the accords." He stated.
"But Vision, that's impossible." Irene stood.
Vision rubbed his chin which was a plated piece of silver vibranium. "Yes I see.' He nodded. "I've never felt the need to put myself first Miss Watson, because for the longest time I wasn't a self, I was nearly a mind without a body. But you are a self, you've always been. So doesn't it stand to reason that you should do what best for yourself. No matter if it's changed in such a wavering moment."
Irene stood awestruck by vision. He was truly amazing, saying everything so logically but yet bound by empathy. This was the reason that immediately after his birth, he quickly became one of her favorite family members.
"Whatever you're feeling inside, I believe that is your truest path you should embark on.' Vision continued. "I believe none of it has to do with your loyalties to anyone, but to your loyalties with yourself and doing what is right."
"But what is right?" Irene sighed, smoothing her white dress behind her legs and crouching down onto the grass.
"Some wrongs are right to others. Some rights are wrong to another.' Vision stood from the hammock, the release of weight making it float in the wind like a ghost. "It's all about finding what's right for you." He walked away, leaving Irene with that.
Irene leaned her head back, cradling her knees before the dam burst. She was sobbing again. As much as she loved Tony and this home they had built together; she couldn't regret the decision to leave home. It was partially her powers own fault.
When she enters the mind of someone they leave something with her, rather good or bad she can't shake the feeling—the connection. And with Bucky Barnes it was no different.
She felt deeply troubled by what she saw, so connected to his subconscious that she couldn't sleep at night. She couldn't walk this earth knowing his mind was fragmented like that. Especially when she could possibly help put it back together.
So, she left. Fighting tirelessly against every fiber that told her to stay. She just hoped Tony didn't love her any less. Because if it was him sitting in that dark and cold room as he had been once before, she would do anything to pull him back.
Irene stepped off the jet, placing her bags beside her body. The blood orange and yellow skyline looked hazy from heat that engulfed her. The jets fans close proximity made her sway like the tall grass ahead of her. She was certainly far from home now.
She turned her head, seeing Steve and T'challa, who'd she had briefly met walking side by side. She smiled somberly in their direction, they waved her over. She pulled her luggage handles up and walked towards them, her heels clicking against the cement as she approached their stalled positions.
Steve immediately pulled Irene in for a hug. The two embraced for a moment, before Steve whispered onto her hairline.
"I'm sorry to make you do this, Irene.' He said, with soft blue eyes. "I know how much Tony means to you, how much we all mean to you."
"Thanks Steve, that means a-lot." Irene smiled, wiping her eyes.
"I also thank you, the decision you've made was a tough one Miss Watson. Nevertheless brave.' T'challa spoke, nudging towards the mammoth palace that sat behind them. "Allow me to show you to your quarters, there is lot to learn about Mr. Barnes condition before the feast tonight."
"Feast?" Irene asked, as Steve and T'challa both took a piece of her luggage walking on either side of her.
"A thank you from my mother and I.' He smiled. "It'll be like nothing you've ever tasted."
"I hope so,' Irene smiled, gently patting her soft stomach. "Because I'm starved."

CHAPTER FOUR
Irene had been in Wakanda from dusk til dawn, and she'd been exploring her quarters and the palace for the better half of it. From the walls to the duvet that spread across her wooden king bed. This room had been tailored to fit Irene. Steve must have given them a boat load of her interest.
There was a nook that sat in the corner of her room, top to bottom filled with all kinds of books. One section was dedicated to painting techniques, and others were memoirs from Charles Xavier—the world's greatest telepath. The entirety of the room was covered ceiling to floor with cooling tan wood so she'd never overheat.
Irene smiled, jumping onto her teal duvet, making snow angles with the comforter. Irene couldn't believe she had such an impeccable room along with a anticipated feast that was being prepared for her arrival tonight. It almost felt too much. But then again, she was never one to reject a free meal or two.
She picked up her luggage, dragging it behind her as she walked towards the large stained dresser. She look up at the doors that almost doubled her height. She pulled them open, the hinges creaked and specs of dust flurried around her. She unzipped her luggage, placing her clothing and shoes neatly inside the dresser.
She felt something wet touch her face , she swiped her fingertips over the apples of her cheeks. To her surprise the tears had come from her own eyes. And before she knew it, she was burying her face into the hoodie she and tony had won together when they went to Walt Disney world one day.
She had missed him already, and vision along with Wanda and Natasha. She promised Steve and T'challa she'd stay and see Bucky's treatment through. And they all didn't know how long that might take. For all she knew, she could be here for a year. And by then, there was no returning home.
"Miss Watson?" An unsure voice came into the room.
Irene quickly rubbed her eyes and nose dry, scrapping them a bit with the tough material of her jacket. "Yes." Her voice cracked.
"Is everything alright?" A younger girl with box braids approached her.
"Yes, yes.' Irene smiled, standing up. "I don't think we've met before." She stuck her hand out.
"I'm shuri, the younger and cooler sister of King T'challa." She smiled brightly, accepting Irene's hand for a shake.
"Ahh, I see why he's been hiding you. He doesn't want someone cooler than him just walking about the place." Irene giggled.
"Exactly." Shuri joined her laughter. "I came here beating gifts." She said, Irene focused on the white and teal box she held.
"I guess everyone knows teal is my favorite color.' She took the box.
"For an old man, Captain Rogers has a big mouth." Shuri laughed. "I hope you like it."
Irene opened the box carefully, smiling as she pulled out the teal and silver colored hearing aids. Irene laughed. "Thank you, but i already have some." She pointed to her ears.
Shuri pulled Irene to her bed, sitting her down. "Try them, they're like nothing you've ever seen." She smiled. "I made them myself."
"Okay." Irene said softly, pulling her hearing aids from out of her ear. She gave Shuri a tight lipped smile, trying her best to ignore the ringing that swarmed her.
Hesitantly, she put the new hearing aids into her ears, wrapping the white straps around her earlobes. First putting them in she heard a whirring noise and then before she knew it Irene heard shuri's voice—clearly.
"How do you like them?" Shuri bit her lip, observing Irene's widened brown eyes.
"Oh my god.' She squealed, grabbing shuris shoulders. "I can hear you, like actually hear you!" Tears swelled in her eyes.
"Yes!" Shuri jumped up, brining Irene with her as they jumped about on the bed.
"How did you even do this?" Irene's breath was heavy from all the jumping.
"An artist never reveals their trades, Irene—you should know that." She smiled, climbing off the bed. "I'll leave it at technology."
"Vibranium?" Irene asked, jumping off the bed.
Shuri picked the white box off the floor, along with the glistening wrapping paper. "Something like that." She smirked. "Come, the feast should nearly be ready to be served." She nudged for Irene's hand.
Shuri stuck her hand out in front of her, and suddenly the rather large and heavy wooden doors engraved with the symbol of the black panther, swung open. Irene's eyes widened in bewilderment, as she and Shuri walked through the doors.
"How'd you do that?" Irene gasped
"My bracelet." Shuri signed to her.
Irene bolstered, as she hunched over holding her stomach.
"What? Did I not say it right?" Shuri asked Irene, awkwardly chuckling with her.
"No, well technically yes.' Irene said. "Don't worry, half the avengers had that problem too initially." She signed while speaking. "You'll learn that in ASL, everything is shortened and backward."
The two girls kept walking through the massive dining room area, people buzzing around them with cakes and dishes that smelled heavenly.
"So for example.' Irene signed. "If I was to say, I'm going to the store. In ASL I'd say, to the store I go." She explained.
Shuri nodded, rubbing her neck. "So what did I say to you then?"
"You said, the bracelet my—which isn't bad." She gently pushed Shuri with her hip. "I appreciate the effort, it means a lot when people learn to communicate with me."
"We wanted your stay to be as comfortable as possible, considering the circumstances." Shuri smiled, pulling out Irene's seat for her.
She smiled, taking a seat feeling Shuri push her in. "Thank you for that, and this." She looked around at the candle lit table, that was surrounded by six other chairs.
"No worries." Shuri sat besides her.
"Will, Bucky be joining us?" Irene asked, unrolling her silverware and placing the linen napkin on her lap.
"No, he's sleeping." Shuri said.
"Sleeping?' Irene laughed. "It's only seven pm."
"Like I said, Irene. There is much for you to learn about the project."
"Okay." Was all Irene could say as she began to dread what that meant exactly.
The feast had come to an end, and Irene was stuffed. She had never been engulfed by that many unique spice blends before. The Wakandans had surely out done themselves. And she was sure to thank the queen and her son for how gracious they'd been to her thus far.
The feast had also granted her the opportunity to meet with Aamani and Aadon. A brother and sister duo who not only created the machine, but were the heads of Project January. They were kind and explained they'd need to meet with her in the morning to take her vitals and test the machine, they called 'winter.'
Sadly, Steve announced this would be his last night. He didn't disclose the perimeters of his exit other than he had business to attend in the states. Irene was upset that a familiar face would be leaving, but she knew he couldn't babysit her forever. That it was her turn to go into the valley of the beast alone.
Shuri had decided she'd walk Irene back to her quarters. She and Irene were determined to get to know each other better while she worked on Project January.
"I won't lie to you, Irene tomorrow won't be easy,' Shuri told Irene. "Aamani and Aadon want to test winter on you if your vitals come back clear."
Irene clutched the door handle of her quarters. "What is winter, what is it really?" Irene trembled at the unknown.
Shuri placed a hand on Irene's shoulder, giving it a firm tap. "I think it's best the scientist who created it disclose that to you."
"Right." She rolled her eyes, pushing in through her door.
"And Irene," shuri's voice stopped her. "He will be awake tomorrow."
Irene just nodded, shutting the door behind herself. She knew Bucky was a complex case. But with this much secrecy, it must have been worse than she ever could have imagined.

“Morning baby.” You whisper rolling over wrapping your arms around Wanda pulling her close.
You take in the scent of her skin and hair. She always smelt like aged vinalla, the scent brought you home.
She turns her head facing you planting a light kiss on your lips. “Goodmorning.”
She untangled herself from your arms, propping up on the bed slipping into her house shoes and sweatshirt. “I should get going, before anyone wakes up.” Wanda explains.
You scoff, sitting up resting against the headboard.
Everynight and every morning it was the very same routine.
She came in around 12 a.m, you’d talk for a bit, make love for a while, then you’d cuddle and fall asleep in each other’s arms. Then as soon as the sun peaked through the bottom of your curtains she left. And it was back to being just “friends.”
You loved Wanda but you hated being hid. You never been one to care about what others thought of you, but Wanda she was already afraid of who she was and she was sure others were too. She didn’t want any other reason for them to be distant toward her.
“You know what Wanda.’ You pause drawing in a breath collecting your thoughts. “You always do this every morning, come and go like I’m a fucking motel pit stop for you to get off and keep warm!” You shout
“Well I’m done being that! If you can’t be with me beyond these doors well than I don’t want you!” You shout tears streaming down your face.
Wanda opened her mouth to speak but she couldn’t. You were right, she had kept you in he dark. Not because she didnt love you but because she loved you, because she was scared of what others would think of her. If they’d shame her anymore.
The team had accepted you for who you were through and through, but they loved you and always have. Unlike Wanda she hasn’t felt that love yet.
Tears swelling in her eyes Wanda quickly slips out of the room rushing to her own before breaking down.
You slumped in your bed in disbelief. You’d been feeling this way for a while now and it was only right you let it out for yourself.
Hopefully one day Wanda would come around..
-
It had been two weeks since you two had ended things, and you barely spoke.
The team even started to notice the shift, especially Natasha.
“Hey what’s up with you and Wanda?” She asks placing her hand on your shoulders.
“What do you mean by that?” You questioned pretending you had no clue what she was on about.
Nat gives you a look, the look read “you know exactly what I’m talking about.”
Out of the whole team Nat was who you trusted the most. She was your older sister, and you knew anything you said she’d take to the grave.
Taking a deep breath you prepare your thought. “We had been seeing each other for a while, nothing serious I guess.” You admit.
Natasha nods listening to you admit what you’ve been hiding for so long.
“Well for what it’s worth I thought you two were adorable.” Nat annouces slipping away to go train.
Your brows immediately perk up, mouth agape. I guess you truly couldn’t keep anything hidden from a spy like Natasha.
-
The mission was going smoothly. It was an all girls mission, so you, Nat, Wanda, Nebula, and Pepper were alone and out on the field.
“Hi right y/n.” Pepper shouts hovering above you in her silver and purple rescue suit
Immediately you force tons of bricks upward knocking out the enemies seemingly sending them into orbit.
Wanda watched you fight as she continued in her own battles, her moves so dance like. Truthfully she always loved the way you fought, so effortlessly but yet so powerful as you congured up all the earths natural elements to battle off the bad guys that swarmed you.
She watched wipe out enemies with the swip of your feet flames exploding from them, fist and hands shooting water and wind left and right, earth shifting from your fingertips.
Wanda was very much in love. She could never admit because she felt it was wrong, but it was so right. Or maybe she didn’t feel it was wrong, maybe it was too right and she was scared of ruining a good thing.
“Y/n your six!” Natasha yells.
You whip your head in the direction you heard Natasha warn you about. It was too late, you were blown back by a blast that was sprung from one of the aliens guns. Your head hit a rock, you felt a warm feeling through your entire body.
Blood.
Then everything went black.
-
“Y/n!” Wanda shouts running toward your still body
She slides on her knees next to you projecting away any other threats, building a force field around you.

“Y/n, baby stay with me please.’ Wanda shutters. It was hard for her to focus her mind on the force field and hopelessly healing your wounds.
“I need help I’m getting swamped and y/n is hit. Help us!” Wanda pleads shouting through the coms.
“We got it. Back ups on its way Wanda, hold on!” Pepper shouts informing
Wanda rocks you back and fourth moving her hands methodically around the wound on your torso and head, her energy seemingly closing your scars slowly. “Shh, stay with me baby. Stay with me.” Wanda cooes.
“Wanda the quinjet is here, they’re gonna take y/n.” Natasha informs through coms.
Wanda immediately releases her force field. Making you levatate running behind your floating body still on alert, She just wants to get you home safe.
Your loaded onto the ship and the team immediately gets to work.
“What happened?” Tony asks pulling out medical supplies passing it along to banner and Dr.Cho
“I’m not sure there- there was this alien and the machine, it shot her. Is she going to be okay?” Wanda stammers pacing hands running through her messy battle hair.
“We are gonna do what we can, we can’t let the avatar down. Not the last of em.” Dr. Cho reassures
“Shit!” Wanda shouts slamming onto the floor shooting psonic energy from all angles of her body.
“Hey we don’t have time for a breakdown right now.’ Tony states. He walks over to Wanda examining her body language.
He wasn’t the best at relationships but one thing was clear. Wanda was indeed in love with you.
“How long.” Tony questions sitting down next to Wanda.
“What?” Wanda exhausts
“How long have you been in love with Y/n?”
Wanda releases and low bellied chuckle. “Long enough.”
The reality of it was, Wanda hadn’t known how long she’d been In love with you. She knew being with you made her happy, more than happy, one day it just hit her. She was indeed in love with her.
Please get better.
-
You attempt to open your heavy eyes, shifting in the uncomfortable recovery bed.
Wincing, you reach up to touch your fresh wounds.
Wanda sits next to your bedside her head resting between her palms, as she seemingly prayed for a healthy recovery and forgivingness from her end.
“Wanda?” You whimper shifting slowly to face her.
It was blurry to see but you’d recognize those big green eyes anywhere.
“Y/n!” Wanda gasps wrapping her hands into yours reaching over your stiff body to press a button.
“What- what are you doing here?” You question holding your forehead in pain.
“I’m here for you, I’m always here for you.” Wanda states kissing the back of your palms running her other hand on your matted curls.
You shoot her a small soft smile, signaling to allow be bygones to be bygones, for the moment.
Wanda couldn’t help but feel the tension between you two. Obviously you wer happy to see her and she was beyond ecstatic to see you up and alive, but the tension was unsettling.
“Hey look who’s up!” Tony elated slipping checking your vitals and dressings.
“Your looking better than we thought.” He admits
“Perks of being the avatar.” You state sarcastically
You felt Wanda squeeze your hand she often did this when she wanted attention.
Your eyes shoot in her direction giving her access to speak to you.
“Can we talk.’ Wanda whispers eyeing between the two of you and tony. “Once he leaves.”
Tony gets the que to exit leaving me and Wanda alone.
Silence fills the room until Wanda finally speaks up.
Wanda grips your hand even tighter, curling a strand of your curls behind your ear again. It was like a nervous tick of hers when she spoke with you.
“Y/n.’ Wanda speaks drawing in a heavy breath. “When I saw you there, laying there fighting for your life I-I was freaking out doing everything I could to rescue you.”
You saw the tears swelling in your eyes while You were already releasing tears of your own. “Wanda—.” You croke
“Please let me finish.” She interrupts softly
“When I saw you laying there. It made me realize how much I truly do love you and need, and want you.” She confessed now full on crying.
“I love you so much y/n and I don’t give a damn who knows it anymore, I’m beyond that I just need you.” Wanda cries
You sat perplexed by her sudden change of heart. You couldn’t pretend this didn’t make your heart swell from her finally admitting her feelings because it did. You knew what you needed to do.
“Okay.’ You speak gripping her face pulling it into yours.
Your swollen lips meet her delicate soft ones. You two begin to move in a memorized sync battleing do dominance.
The kiss was a beautiful mixture of tears and passion.
Jesus Christ Wanda Maximoff what are you doing to me.
Breaking the fiery kiss “I love you.” You whisper forehead rested against hers.
Wanda cracks a bold smile teeth shinning through. “Wanna make some s’mores.” She suggested pulling out the ingredients from her bag.
A smirk slides onto your face, fingertips illuminating with fire.
“You know me to well.”
