I Think Theres Something So Deeply And Intimately And Morbidly True About The Last Of Uss Primary Thesis
I think thereâs something so deeply and intimately and morbidly true about The Last of Usâs primary thesis which is that humanityâs fatal flaw, in that very Shakespearian way, is that we are destined to care too much about one another so much so that we discard the collective entirely. like we have such a capacity to love the human race and humanity as a whole, to grow our communities and govern cities how we know best and foster such connection with the masses which we are part of, but itâs overtaken by our capacity to love even just a single other person. like one human can come into your life that creates such an intrinsic and passionate love in youâ or maybe two people or a familyâs worth or any small numberâ and you suddenly would burn entire villages down just to keep them safe.
joel doesnât blink twice murdering to find ellie. he doesnât look back when he decides to do what he does at the hospital later on. he has no remorse about any of it it, because this one girl has grown to mean more to him than any possible greater good could ever mean. and itâs reciprocal. ellie wouldâ and doesâ do anything she can to help him, save him, protect him, and, eventually, to avenge him. because thatâs what you do when you love someone. not when you love people. when you love someone.
and itâs selfish, in a way??? because we love these people and would do so much for them because they mean more to us than other strangers do. itâs exactly like an iteration of the trolley problem, actually. one track has your daughter on it and one track has fifty people. donât even try telling me you wouldnât go onto track B if it meant saving your daughter and her puppy dog eyes from the whimpering and pain and fear. The Last of Us says yes, you would. I would. we all would. and like yeah that is our greatest weakness, that we have such a unique ability to love a handful of people so deeply that our compassion towards community and strangers and the bigger collective starts to slip from view. but goddamn what a fucking great fatal flaw it is to have. we are all going to die and the world will burn because we loved another person too much.

Tuesday March 21.
World Poetry Day.
Today is a celebrationâbut perhaps, like all celebrations, just what we are commemorating is something that we must treasure each and every day. Poetry, some might say, is just that: the treasure that artists mine from the sham and drudgery of day-to-day life. For the poet, their art is found not by searching for the exotic, mysterious, glamourous, or seductive, but by what they find before them. What is mundane and routine is as much material to be mined as life's intensities or spectacles. For the poet, the world really is their oyster. And for the rest of us, the work they produce is that very pearl. And every shade of experience, whether joy, grief, banality, intrigue, and beauty, are encapsulated in words, spaces, silence, images, and form. Whether by skill, or by chance, no one really knows, but perhaps the mess and the mystery are one and the same as its profundity. With that in mind, let's celebrate a good thing. And a good thing that is ours each and every day. It's #world poetry day.
With that in mind, we invite you to mark the day here on Tumblr. After all, there is simply no better community of poets and artists who make up this creative sphere, and the evergreen world of all things poetry is, well, your world.Â
And when all is said and done, you better get writing x
people who call el/mileven the âborn sexy yesterdayâ trope do nothing but tell on THEMSELVES. you are projecting. first of all, el is not âsexyâ or mimicking a child, she is a child. mike is a child too.
moreover, i donât think that, mike doesnât think that, no normal person thinks that, YOUU think that. YOU think sheâs nothing but an idiot with pretty face and no redeeming qualities. because the only way you could even imagine someone loving her is because sheâs beautiful and easy to take advantage of. and itâs genuinely so nasty and almost upsetting like this is how you view women? this is how you view this strong complex female lead we have? really?
