I'm Sorry --- Is This THE 'grey Scale Video'?
I'm sorry --- is this THE 'grey scale video'?
(the video that Jungkook referenced as what he watched that made him choose Big Hit)
This video was filmed in 2010, written by RM and produced by him and Pdogg, to be a promotional video to attract more recruits to audition for Big Hit. It was one of two songs RM wrote for that purpose. (I have no idea why the end of the video cuts to just lyrics, but oh well.)
READ THOSE LYRICS. If you were a 13 year old boy, kind of aimless but wishing you had some type of passion, those lyrics would be a siren's song. 13 year old me would have followed Namjoon anywhere too after hearing this song.
In my imagination - this is now officially the video that made Jungkook decide to follow RM.
Also -- 15 year old RM is very cool. Mad respect for writing this song at that age.
And I love that Big Hit used RM's own words (no one else is credited at all on those lyrics) to recruit people. They didn't try to fancy it up at all -- they were really out there putting all their money on proving that they wanted people who could tell their own story. And I am HERE for it.

We had a little dream of a namjin collab and yet we got bicycle, something so melancholic yet absolutely magnificent instead. I couldn’t be more grateful, feel more blessed.
If we look back across Namjoon’s music, starting at the early days over RM with works like Do You and Joke, an anthem to be yourself and the other a song full of defiance and anger, over always with its sadness, pain, overwhelming darkness, to mono. that soothes the soul and feels like Namjoon slowly, truly starting to understand himself, search for himself, listen to himself, and now bicycle with its beautiful guitar and appreciation for the simple moments in life, the brief ones that come and go in a heartbeat, like lightning in a bottle. It’s the progression of a true artist, little scattered pieces that all make up Kim Namjoon, the sad parts, the angry, happy and content ones, and the gentleness that envelops them all, that is grateful and appreciative and curious.

The human experience is such a complex thing, the human mind and emotions even more, and yet Namjoon is able to capture it and put it into music in ways I feel no one else can quit the way he does. People can say what they want, but to me he is like the voice and the pen of this generation, a lyricist and artist like no other with a mind so vast and smart and wondrous.

Saying thank you will never feel enough. I’m grateful to share this moment in time with someone like him, with a group like Bangtan, and to listen to his voice, to their music. And now I really would like to go ride my bike.
