A Friendly Reminder That Microaggressions Against Asians Can Also Look Like This:
a friendly reminder that microaggressions against asians can also look like this:
pretending to gag at asian food
pretending to be weirded out by asian customs and cultures
excusing cultural appropriation (often through ignoring the stories of asians who have been mocked for wearing their ethnic dress while praising a white person for doing so)
not trying to learn how to pronounce an asian person's ethnic name correctly, or asking, "can i call you by something else?"
adopting an asian name for the ~aesthetic~
using the words "oriental" and "exotic" to describe asian people, particular asian women
ignoring the experiences and stories of south, southeast, *edit* west asians, and central asians
making sweeping assumptions about asian countries (including their political, historical and cultural landscape)
treating the entire asian community as a monolith and ignoring the fact that the experiences of asian nationals are remarkably different from the asian diaspora/migrant community
co-opting asian aesthetics into creative media without acknowledging their history

Things the Harry Potter Fandom tends to forget
Feel free to add onto this list with more:
1) James and Snape had a rivalry, and it was two-sided. It wasn’t James relentlessly hexing poor, innocent Snape.
2) Harry prefers spending time with Ron over spending time with Hermione.
3) Remus had a son named after him- Teddy Remus Lupin.
4) There is no canonical evidence that James repeatedly pestered Lily for dates- That’s just fanon. We see him ask her out once.
5) Snape went down to the Whomping Willow of his own free will; No one forced him, and he supposedly knew what was down there and that the school knew about it.
6) Snape died because Voldemort thought he was the true wand owner. So, he didn’t really die for love.
7) James and Sirius are described as two of the brightest in their year.
8) Ron is strategically intelligent
9) Harry is good at noticing small details
10) Hermione is not the greatest under pressure
Derek said the bite is a gift but the real gift has always been Scott McCall
I know JKR is a terf but do we really have to hate the entire Harry Potter ??
There is something called separating the art from the artist...
this is something i might advocate if she weren’t actively profiting from Harry Potter.
separate the art from the artist? i’m sorry, you can’t do that — it’s connected by her bank account. if you keep enjoying Harry Potter, if you keep looking at her transphobia and saying “well i hate shes transphobic but not enough to stop reading her books”, if you keep buying her products — that’s what she wants. she wants you to mindlessly support her.
her racism, transphobia, antisemitism and much more is so prevalent and even integral to the books
but more than that — of course, you CAN do whatever you want — but expect trans people to trust you less if you’re talking about how great Harry Potter is all the time. we will just not trust you, because you have decided to keep supporting the world’s most famous TERF.
anyway, i think john walker is the perfect captain america. he represents exactly what america is. we’re a pro-gun, pro-military, pro-war, pro-capitalist, and ofc pro-racism. john walker is a better representation of america than steve or sam could ever hope to be. also some of yall are feeling sentimental over the shield because of what it could represent or what the potential for it is…. ARE YOU GUYS FORGETTING THAT ITS MADE FROM STOLEN VIBRANIUM FROM WAKANDA??
lmao i can’t make this shit up. the writers of this show knew exactly what they were doing.
because now, when sam takes over the shield, he’s going to represent everything that america can be, everything that america has the potential to be.
White privilege is Bucky Barnes literally being THE most feared assassin of the modern era and STILL getting called “Mr. Barnes” by the police and them treating him with kid gloves while they’re arresting him and apologizing for doing it -
While they were primed to see Sam as a threat from the start AND ready to escalate things up to a thousand for no reason other than he’s Existing While Black.
Because, look, here’s the thing - Isaiah Bradley was absolutely right. He and Bucky were both experimented on and tortured for decades - but only ONE of them is allowed the luxury of the promise of a new life.
And Steve may have given the shield to Sam, but Steve’s white privilege meant he had the luxury of not having to think about what it would mean for Sam - a Black man - to carry the mantle of Captain America and the even target it would paint on his back.
And if that makes you uncomfortable and/or pisses off, then good. Because you should be.
