anyway, i think john walker is the perfect captain america. he represents exactly what america is. we’re a pro-gun, pro-military, pro-war, pro-capitalist, and ofc pro-racism. john walker is a better representation of america than steve or sam could ever hope to be. also some of yall are feeling sentimental over the shield because of what it could represent or what the potential for it is…. ARE YOU GUYS FORGETTING THAT ITS MADE FROM STOLEN VIBRANIUM FROM WAKANDA??
lmao i can’t make this shit up. the writers of this show knew exactly what they were doing.
because now, when sam takes over the shield, he’s going to represent everything that america can be, everything that america has the potential to be.

Black lives matter in France too. Justice for Adama
Hello guys, so, you are many to follow me for years, and you all know how vocal I have always been about racism, and the place of black people in fiction and society. However I didn’t quite shared my thoughts about what’s happening in USA rn here in tumblr, but I definitely did on twitter and instagram, now it’s your turn to read.
In the light of recent events, riots happening in many cities around the US and of course, the unspeakable actions of many policemen, I need to talk about what also happens in France.
We are in 2016, and a young man named Adama Traoré, was allegedly murdred by three policemen in the same fashion of George FLoyd. Like George, his last words were “ I CAN’T BREATHE.”
Since then, his sister Assa Traore, demands justice for her brother and an actual mediatic war happens between the Traoré family and the police representatives. Many reports contradict each other like what we can observe with the reports issued by the police concerning George Floyd. These two cases are very very similar, but unfortunately for Adama, we didn’t have a camera that could show the actions of these policemen. HOwever, many witnesses came to deliver what they saw showing that the police went above their duties, but Adama Traore never got justice.
What’s happening in the Usa, then, reasonates particularly here in France. You have to know, that black and Arab people are unfairly racially profiled since they are teenagers in the blocks and even beyond. I have the story of my own little brother who is racially profiled everytime he goes in the city. Many cases of police violence happened during the quarantine, and this cameras recorded unspeakble actions. We saw a young man being tackled, took in a van where he was lynched. We saw another getting tackled, taken somewhere where he couldn’t be directly seen and we heard his screams. Lately, a 14-years-old teenager was attacked when he was in custody.. He may loose his right eye.
Police violence is a very serious issue against people of color, here in France, especially Blakc and Arab people. I am telling you that France that arrogantly sees itself the land of justice and human rights doesn’t respect them.
Today a protest will be very repressed since because of Covid 19, protests are forbidden. People will ge hurt because of Paris chief of police who is… very dangerous.
I am telling you, France is watching the US, and I really would like that black people in the US know, that the entire diaspora in many countries in the West knows. Please support us as much as we support you. No justice, no peace everywhere.
Take care,
Oce.
As much as I want to celebrate and cheer the Dora Milaje for kicking some stupid asses, the main takeaway from this episode that is unavoidably somber is seeing the shield covered in the blood of someone who was trying to fight for a unified world, who begged for mercy, and who was not responsible for the crime he was murdered for. I want to point out that this visual representation of the shield being misused is only the most explicit depiction of the conflicting nature of that symbol that most people of color have been dealing with for as long as that shield has existed.
Sam refused the shield for many reasons but Mackie has been arguing that part of it is bc it is unimaginably difficult for a black man to represent a nation that has not stood for the black man.
Sarah says, very clearly, that she cannot care about the mascot of a country that doesn't care about her world.
The shield, in many ways, represents America, and America has, historically, systematically and violently oppressed people of color, which makes it very hard for those people of color to claim that symbol, because to them, it is the visual representation of their oppression, and the systems that inhibit their lives.
To people of color, that shield has always had some blood on it, because America as an institution has actively harmed people of color.
And this goes beyond America and the American people, as you can see by the fact that this extra-judicial killing of a member of the Flag Smashers occurs outside of the United States. As someone from a country where uncountable numbers of people have been killed as collateral damage of US-drone strikes, amongst other things, that shield also represents the imperialist military complex that America has and enforces on the world. The shield represents America and America has spilled a lot of blood on foreign soil, a significant amount of it more innocent than the Flag Smasher Walker killed.
TL;DR: Episode 4 may be the first time we are seeing blood physically on the shield for the first time, but for American people of color, and those belonging to nations harmed by American imperialism, that shield has had blood on it for a long time, because it represents America, and for aforementioned groups, America has fronted suffering.
One thing that stands out to me about Sam, particularly in episode 2, is that even though he talks more than Bucky he doesn’t necessarily say more. Sam is an outgoing, lively person. But right now he’s not opening up and he’s not sharing. He’ll talk about the plan, he’ll banter, he’ll make jokes. But he’s keeping his thoughts and feelings pretty closely guarded.
When Bucky brings up the shield and asks (directly or indirectly) why Sam gave it up, Sam avoids the question. He states that he did what he thought was right, but he doesn’t offer any sort of explanation for why. And he doesn’t necessarily have to, he doesn’t have to justify his choices to Bucky. But I do think it’s coming in part from Sam questioning his own choice based on how it turned out and therefore being a little defensive.
But even more so I think it’s part of a larger pattern where Sam isn’t really sharing what he’s going through with anyone. Sam say’s to Dr. Raynor in the therapy session “I’ll squash it” and get the job done. That seems to be the mode Sam has been in for at least the last six months since coming back from the Blip. He takes his problems, squashes them down, puts on a smile, makes some jokes, and works on fixing other people’s problems.
Bucky, for all his unwillingness to engage and stubbornness and refusal to talk to people, is sort of a raw nerve. We see more of him getting suddenly very emotional, or lashing out. Sam has a much tighter grip on all his emotions, with the biggest moment so far where he let them slip out being when he met Isaiah and the confrontation with Bucky afterward (and look what happened when he let himself get angry). And if this was just a lack of trust with Bucky that would be one thing. He and Bucky aren’t truly friends yet, they trust each other in one sense, in the going into a fight together way, but emotionally they don’t really trust each other yet. But I don’t think it’s just with Bucky. Sarah indicated that he left home and joined the airforce because he was running away from his problems at home. And I got the sense in episode 1 that he wasn’t really being emotionally honest or open with Sarah either. It was all very bottled up and hidden behind jokes and bravado and the sort of hero persona of Sam who tries to fix everything. Even with Rhodey, who I think understood a lot better than anyone else where Sam was coming from and so didn’t need as much to be said, Sam seemed to be a little avoidant.
So I think that’s going to be part of Sam’s arc. He’s going to need to open up and let someone in. Partly because, if he and Bucky are going to be partners and friends, those things entail honesty and communication and right now neither one is giving that. But also purely on Sam’s side he needs to stop squashing all his problems and running from them. Not because he owes anyone anything, but because he deserves a chance to not have to be strong and put together all the time. To be able to voice those doubts and fears and be supported.
