Otto Hate Is So Overblown And Undeserved
Otto hate is so overblown and undeserved
The biggest critique of him are that he’s too power hungry and ambitious. This is literally Game of Thrones though! Everyone does this and needs to do this to stay alive in this universe. It’s a balance of being powerful, needed, and irreplaceable so no one tries to remove them from power by killing them. Petyr Baelish mastered this art so well that no one realized he was the biggest threat till it was too late.
I’d go as far to say that compared to other fathers in the series, Otto is actually a good one. He did send Alicent to Viserys but Viserys decided that he would pursue Alicent, not Otto making alicent seduce him.
Unlike Viserys, Otto prepared Alicent for ruling as we saw in the small council seen after Rhaenyra gave birth. Alicent has enough political power without her father there to deny a marriage between her child and the child of the Heir to the throne!
Unlike Corlys, Otto is shown to take great interest and care of Alicent’s life. We see him try to help her break her nail biting habit. He also immediately comes back to court when he can instead of running away to the stepstones for war.
Unlike Daemon, Otto actually interacts with his kids more than once.
Also another thing, Otto is literally a single parent to his multiple kids after his wife died.
