Friendly Reminder That There's No Such Thing As Gatekeeping A Mental Illness. Mental Health Communities
friendly reminder that there's no such thing as gatekeeping a mental illness. mental health communities are not the same thing as general social communities. by invading our spaces and speaking over our experiences you are directly causing harm and I wish you the worst day possible for it.
i don't care what you see online or if it looks fun. yall are appropriative as fuck and it's really shitty how none of you will just close your mouths and listen for once.

another interesting excerpt from 'understanding and treating dissociative identity disorder: a relational approach'.
this matches the experiences of many people i know of with DID, where they have an inkling of what they're actually experiencing, but may have no language to describe it, and/or may assume that it's normal.

an excerpt from the book "understanding and treating dissociative identity disorder: a relational approach". it reads as follows:
"People with DID often do not know about their dissociative identities. Or, they may “sort of” know: They have an inkling, but they do not have the conceptual or emotional language yet to spell it out to themselves. Sometimes, if they do know, even sort of know, they may assume that every- one else is similar. Living in such a haze, people with DID often find it dif- ficult even to think about, much less communicate about, their dissociative problems. Moreover, even when they know they have dissociative problems, they are often, for good reason, loath to reveal it: They fear being regarded as “crazy” and of being “put away.” They also fear they are crazy. As a result, the assessment must be conducted with great care and sensitivity."

ever have a blorbo live in your brain for so long they become their own blorbo variant that’s no longer fully attached to their source material and your original blorbo is still beloved and dear to you but now you also have a mutant blorbo clone who is dear to you in a different way?
Whenever I see people discoursing online about how all fiction must model good behavior and explicitly state that any bad behavior depicted is wrong, lest someone in the audience mistake it for “glorifying,” all I can think of is that line from Arrested Development where Buster, in his mid-30s, objects to something by saying “that’s not the way mother is raising me”
